  2. Bergen: Scandic Ørnen is a typical conference and new build hotel. Rooms are typical "Scandic" clean, decent size and depending on floor and room, you have a view and more amenities. All good for my needs on work or privat. CPH: Here it depends on my purpose, work or pleasure:) For work, I often stay at Sydhavnen or Sluseholmen. Room are decent size and its close to were I'm at work. Its also a short walk for me to the city centre on foot or waterbus. And if I have a car, its free parking. Breakfast is good. And some of the rooms has a bathtub, I always ask for this. Nothing fancy, but it works like a clock for my needs. Or I stay at Scandic Copenhagen, love to have the view over the water or city centre. I always ask for å room on top floors. For private my favorite are Scandic Palace or Front. They have good breakfast and rooms are good for relaxing after a day out. Oslo: Scandic Oslo City is an old rica hotel. So its better from start. It has been renovated one turn. Rooms are not "100 Scandic style" compared to Byporten. Personally I think this is a better hotel then Byporten. Due to room setup and breakfast. For stays in Oslo on Scandic my "yes" list is: Solli, Sjølyst, Grand Hotel, Holmenkollen Park and St. Olavs Plass Its due to rooms, employees and breakfast.
  3. thanks @hal2008 I agree on the Scandic Byporten, when it comes to ac/breakfast. I will explain a bit more about Scandic. Scandic is a typically 3* hotel group. But they also have some hotels that are 4*+/5* like Hotel Norge in Bergen and Grand Hotel Oslo. In Norway they went shopping and they took over Rica Hotels several years ago. Rica had better quality and higher standards in my opinion. So my experience is that old Rica hotels offer better amenities if there are one old Scandic and one old Rica hotel in the same city. Due to work I must stay at Scandic. So I stay by them 40-60 nights every year in Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Finland. In Helsinki it’s heaven or hell in difference of the Scandic hotels in the city centre🙃 So I have a list of hotels I use and those I don’t use. Scandic Byporten is on my no list. It’s due to rooms and breakfast service. As hal2008 said, not all hotels in Norway offer ac. Due to climate, we don’t have them as in Florida. If it’s very hot for a period, the hotels often offer you a table fan in the reception for free use during your stay. Luggage and distance We travel only by samsonite, it’s due to the wheels and that we need to drag our suitcases over uneven surfaces and that we are used to walk. It very normal, compared to US that we walk and bring luggage. And often in Europe, city centre is blocked for cars. So it’s often 5.mins walk and 15.min detour by car. Safe travels👍🏻😎
  4. 🤪🤪 it shows how often I take the train to Bergen this days. (I took the train regularly Oslo-Voss for many years) nowadays I’m immune for the train… I always fly to Bergen. Good that you follow up @kaisatsu 👍🏻
  5. Our 2 booked cruises on AZ went down the drain…. Thanks to Covid😤 Both longer cruises. 16+24 days. We prefer longer cruises 15-20days+ I wish for a cruise as said from several others: -Madagascar, Seyschellne, Reunion, Mauritius, Sri Lanka -Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines and -the Azores , Canary Islands and Cabo Verde islands during winter season in Europe october-March
  6. hello The airport express train goes to Oslo S/Oslo central station. It’s the main station for train in Oslo. But 50% of the trains continue onward to National Theateret and Skøyen station. So it’s not a problem to choose a hotel in that area. (Final destination is either Drammen or Stabekk) Oslo-Bergen train starts at Oslo S, but it stops at National Theatret and Skøyen station, so you can start your journey here if you would like. Same on return from Bergen. You can get off at those stations. What time of the year are you planning on coming? There are multiple options for hotels. Price is depending on chain and location. Your budget is also important. On Oslo S you have 3 hotels in the building. Thon Hotel Opera, Scandic Byporten and Choice Østbanehallen. If you walk 5-10.mins you have 20+.more hotels to choose from. So look at the map on hotelsdotcom to fit it to your budget is my best tip. I stay a lot in Scandic for work. Not super fancy, but clean and ok value for money. Breakfast is good. They are located all over Scandinavia. I use Scandic Skøyen a lot for work stay. Easy location to train to airport and good breakfast and relaxing room. In Bergen I always stay at Scandic Bryggen or Scandic Hotel Norge. if you have a wide budget for hotels, Hotel Continental, The Thief, Grand Hotel Oslo and Bristol is not wrong.
  7. Hello The royal palace is a lovely tour. I always bring my international friends and family here if they haven’t visited the palace before. It shows rooms and decor inside. The guided tours of the opera house is nice. But it’s not a must. You can visit the foyer, have coffee and walk on the building by yourself. It’s a good diy activity, you book a performance, if you have a overnight stay. That’s a great way to see it all.
  8. Hello Welcome to Oslo🇳🇴 Fillipstad is not miles away, but compared to the 2 other ports, it’s further out. But is a flat walk into Aker Brygge/Tjuvholmen. There you walk into the new National museum. Deepening on your plans, you can do a public transport card 24h or you can use a Oslo Pass, do the math for your plans 🙃 Monday is a regular day in Norway and school is starting, so everything is “back to normal” Temperatures are hard to predict, but this summer we have had 15-20c sun, showers in the afternoon a lot. Some days has been excellent 25/27c but be prepared for lower temperature and a shower in the afternoon😌
  9. Thank you! This is the itinerary we have on X. In Kauai, we stay at Hilton Garden Inn. We have understood that the way to se the na pali coast is by the ocean/boat.
  10. Sorry to say... But if your cruise is in august, you are a bit late to the party🤭 I do hear you and understand your irritation. But I strongly recommend that you arrive at your designated time. Because otherwise it will be a mad house. The processes for ckin takes a bit more time, due to visuell check og papers/vaccine/test etc. I had 2 cruises in may. One I arrived on time and went strait onboard in 15.min. To weeks later I arrived on my time slot. But the rest of the cruise also arrived.... Well, it took 2h in line just to proceed the ckin. I had a suite, but they did pick out people that had priority. So everyone had to wait until their turn.
  11. Hello We are going on a cruise to Hawaii on X. We have never been on Hawaii before. Normally I have everything under control and all things are planned and ready far in advance. But due to the situation, I have waited and waited. (so tired of disappointment of cld) But here we are, so close to sailing and things look far more promising😅 Excursions offers by X is a bit limited. And informations provided about the tours are very limited. So we booked tours that seemed correct for our taste and not sold out. Normally we always do privat tours. But I find it very hard to find options. Our roll call are quiet compared to earlier cruises. We have booked by X: -Rainforest Waterfall Hike, Lahaina, Maui. (First day of overnight stay) We are very 🧐 if its better to do Road to Hana? We are a bit concerned to sit in a car all day. And what to do on day 2 I Maui. Again, very limited options by X. -Waterfalls Spectacular, Hilo -Captain Zodiac Raft, Dolphin and Snorkel Adventure, Kailua Kona In Honolulu we will stay a few days after the cruise. We are booked at Hilton Waikiki Resort Ails-tower. I have contacted 2 companies for privat tours, so I'm waiting for tour recommendations for a full day+half day. How long time do we need for Pearl Harbour? Book a tour or go by our self? We will fly to Kauai for 4.nights and then back to Honolulu. Tour recommendations are very welcome. If we want to fly helicopter, were is the best place to do this? Is dinner+show a must in Hawaii? Best rgds
  12. Hello! 1.We are booked on X and they have an option on cruising days to book a tender tour to get closer to the glaciers. Has someone tried it? Is it worth the cost. They have the option at Hubbard and Endicott Arm & Dawes Glacier. We are from Norway and one of us has lived on Spitzbergen for 2 years. So we have been kayaking on Svalbard, been lot out to glaciers in that area. Whales are not the biggest thing for us, we have seen it often and it's not the most important thing for us on this trip. We are used to be out in the nature and have clothing for all events;) 2. Ketchikan We have booked a trip called Rain Forest Island Adventure, has someone tried it? Other recommendation for what we might do instead? We dont want a full day in car/bus big group tour. 3. Other ports we have booked: Sitka: Wilderness Sea Kayaking Adventure Juneau: Bike & Brew Glacier View Skagway: White pass scenic railway TIA
  13. 😅 well, I can just tell you straight away…. The railroad between Oslo-Stockholm is old. From Oslo central station to the Swedish boarder, the railway is totally worn down… So that’s one of the reasons they desperately try to agree on a new railroad. SJ don’t bother to drive the newer trains. They use the oldest they have, since it’s not possible to drive on fast speed on the Norwegian side. And summer maintenance is a never ending storytelling in greater Oslo🤪🤪🤪 They do lots of work and it’s getting slowly better. But until they make a new railroad between Oslo-Sweden, it will not be better…
  14. Kristinehamn - Karlstad Linje: Stockholm–Karlstad–Oslo Period: 12 juni – 9 augusti. Påverkan: Tågen ställs in del av sträckan och ersätts eventuellt med buss, alternativt går en annan våg. this is from SJ in Swedish. it says that trains between Oslo-Stockholm is affected of maintenance on the railroad from 12.June to 9.August. It will be train+bus on your travel or they will do a different route by train compared to the usual train ride. This is different from day to day. For best updates on train travel between Stockholm-Oslo, use sj.se You will find more options and better explanation on the service for this trip. Sj.no is the correct place to look for tickets from Oslo-Trondheim/Røros-Bodø.
  15. are you looking for tickets in near future? There is a strike at SAS, SK airlines. the majority of us that commute to Stockholm-Oslo fly. the strike has been on for 10 days now. Pluss the security lines at Arlanda Airport is totally out of control. It has been for weeks and it’s not getting better tomorrow… So many travelers search for other options. So that’s why it’s impossible to find a direct train ticket in near time. So as of now the train nonstop are sold out. First available ticket I could find is 18.of August. and also, the summer maintenance service on the railroad is affecting traffic on the trains. You can also use the bus service directly to Oslo. It’s okay. Nothing fancy, but it works well.
  16. sorry for late reply. You can still by single tickets or 24h card at Narvesen or Router office at Jernebane Torget or Nationaltheatret station.
