  1. I'm sure it wasn't your intention, but this is one of the reasons the "elegant night" thread get contentious.

While I like dressing up,it never bothered me that others don't want to do so.

I'm sure you and your bf will have a great cruise.

    Thanks for understanding

  2. It's without merit because you don't agree with it? Do you seriously think that cruise lines register their ships in foreign nations just so they can paint differnet names on the back of their ships and have pretty flags other than red, white, and blue waving over the decks? No, they register their ships overseas to AVOID US taxes, and AVOID US labor laws. It's done to SAVE MONEY and bolster their bottom line. They do it because they can and legally get away with it. Cruise lines are making their money by paying their employees poorly, dodging US taxes, and charging sky high prices on various products. Of course we all know that. Does it make it the RIGHT thing to do? I was brought up with standards, morals, and ethics. Sadly, many companies have abandoned all of that in the quest for the almighty dollar My view is not without merit - you simply don't see it the same way I do.

I feel dumb I didn't know that the crew were so mistreated that makes me so sad.

    BTW:

    Hurricane Katrina

Carnival Ecstasy docked in New Orleans

Three of the Carnival cruise ships were chartered by the United States government for six months to serve as temporary housing in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Holiday was originally docked in Mobile, Alabama, and later Pascagoula, Mississippi, and Ecstasy and Sensation were docked at New Orleans, Louisiana. The six-month contract cost $236 million. The contract was widely criticized because the vessels were never fully utilized, and Carnival received more money than it would have earned by using the ships in their normal rotation.

    Controversies

The company has reportedly been paying wages under $1.50 per hour to employees with low to nonexistent benefits such as holidays or minimal vacations. Monthly salaries of the high paid workers is around $1,300. Of course, the crew wages are supplemented by gratuities, and one former Carnival crew member cited that crew receive up to 95% of their income from tips. Employees report strenuous working conditions such as 14-hour shifts with no days off. As of October 2013, they are also revoking retirement benefits.

That is horrible they should treat their workers better instead of putting it on the customers to make sure these people have a living wage.
