1. Ok, from what I have read I am allowed to carry onboard 12 cans or 12 bottles. I thought it was no more than 20 ounce bottles but I checked prices at the store today and they don't sell a 6 pack of 20 ounce diet coke. They come in 24 ounce bottles or an 8 pk of small bottles. Has anyone taken the 24 ounce bottles on? I would rather take on the bottles instead of cans so I can put the lid back on when I don't want to finish a whole one at a time.

I always buy a soda card but I am hoping to just carry some on this time.

Thanks

Don't be a ditz like me,.....one time I took on cans of soda in my luggage.... Surprise surprise, the cans burst all over my clothes.. What a doofus I was huh! Lol definitely take bottles and in your carry on! :)

2. Just curious on a ballpark figure of a months pay? Also, I think cross training and experience as a paramedic would go a long way. Sounds like an adventure and resume builder for sure! Only tough part would be if you had family, it would be hard to leave for 3-4 months at a time.

I can't help you with salary as it was several years ago when I did it.

I know the contracts are 6months on and 2 months off.

I had family onboard as guests a couple of times since it can be 6 months without a full day off.....(you may be off for a day, but then be on call that night depending on schedule) so better suited for a single person.

Need to be prepared to have experience to work independently, as you can be first on call for any emergent event... But again, well worth the experience!

3. Got off the Magic almost 3 weeks ago and still no platinum gifts. None on ship so we had to fill out a form for them to be mailed. Kind of doubt we will see them!

Dont think this will make you feel any better,, but I was on Paradise in March and filled out the form as no Platinum gift available, and finally received my Tervis tumbler 5 months later, in August!!! Whoopee doo! not exactly worth the wait, but hey, they at least mailed it to me... So be prepared for possibly a long wait my friend... Lol

4. Looking for info on the job in general. Hours, expectations, salary, etc from someone with experience. I had a nurse friend ask me if I know anything and aside from what little I can find on the Carnival website, I know nothing.

Having worked as a Ships nurse in the past. Don't go for the salary...lol but the experience is amazing...

it's not the easy breezy job one thinks! Aside from 3am calls for Tylenol, there are many emergencies behind the scenes too, I have even had to assist with cracking a chest on the floor of the disco!! Airlifts, lots of codes and crew trauma. Minimum is 2-3 yrs exp with ICU, ER and surgery too is a benefit.

ACLS is mandatory of course.....

Great experience, I think every nurse should try it out....

5. Looking for anyone who may have done this before...

A small bit of history - got my husband hooked on cruising during our honeymoon Splendor cruise. We had an aft extended, and in our two cruises since we had a "L" on the Valor and an aft on the Fascination.

Not to turn this into a family drama thread, but some info is needed I think - he'd been estranged from his three sons (ages 27, 25 and 19) but has slowly rebuilt their relationship and they are planning a short guys cruise on the Imagination in the Spring. The two oldest boys are very close but the youngest has only met his brothers a few times. They've all seen our pictures and heard how much fun we've had, and all are very excited about this bonding trip.

This is somewhat a last minute plan, and money is an issue. They all say for a three night cruise they can share an inside cabin.

I'm just wondering if that's a good idea with the history and the fact that while he says it's fine, my husband is a bit of a balcony snob who shuddered when we walked by open inside cabins on the Fascination.

He wouldn't need a balcony, but wondering if it's worth the extra money to get two inside cabins just for a bit more space? Or is that just me over-thinking? Husband and two oldest boys are low maintenance (run a #2 razor over the head "hairstyles" while the youngest is a bit of a bathroom primper. They know about the gym showers and I've already mapped out a cabin that's in sprinting distance of a public restroom if need be.

Anyone have any experience from going on a "romantic" cruise for two with a balcony to a guys (or girls) only in an inside with four people?

IMHO, I would shoot for 2 cabins.... Especially if they want to maintain and nurture their "relationships" and the younger child not as close to his other 2 brothers...I have had a balcony with 3 and that was very cramped and we were close family but it became "challenging" being cramped, and that was with all the extra room of a balcony... So I would deffo advise a 2nd cabi. In your situation... Good luck...and I hope it works out and they have a great time.

6.
So......
It looks as if the Legend Vista suites are THE cabin to book.... Question is...Is one deck any better than the other?
Depends if you like more sun or shade on your balcony....For me I want the sun so prefer deck 7. Less of a overhang from above.
For more shade I would suggest deck 4/5
Deck 8 is under the lido so can be noisy when they move chairs around late at night, also not as private.
7. I moved over to RCCL and recently have been on them more than CCL, mainly because RCCL offer better "perks" for higher levels..I am now D+ so have many perks including discounts when booking if a balcony etc....I miss that with CCL.

I am going on Legend shortly and am interested to see if any improvements. At least as a Platinum you can go to your cabin earlier now, that is very nice!

Wish CCL had some form of a concierge lounge as I do enjoy that on RCCL, especially when I cruise solo.

I do recall that for the most part CCL crew were very friendly but having just got off Enchantment I was most impressed with this and the interaction with officers and crew, all seemed most happy and friendly,...love the Enchantment!

But have an open mind as to Legend again since she was my favorite CCL ship in the past so am looking forward to seeing her!

How did you rate the difference in dining....? I actually prefer CCL for that.

And their wonderful Serenity deck.... Love it!

On Enchantment the similar adult area is covered and like a greenhouse.

8. Thanks for the updates so far...

So I am guessing that the nightly availability of escargot in MDR and the nightly sushi (just along from coffee bar) is also non-existent now?:(

I usually drink some foo-foo cocktails, mimosas and maybe a tiramisu martini nightcap so maybe average about 6-8 drinks so think the cheers will work good as I don't plan on getting off at all the ports either, since done them so many times....hoping for good weather tho! That's my "therapy" lots of sun, some good books, beautiful ocean.... hope it's clears up in the Caribbean...

9. Yes, I have been on 8 Carnival cruises in the last 16 months. I have a B2B booked Dec 15 on Legend, and my cruise boarding pass has me listed as Platinum!!

I am so excited to be on board the Legend soon. I love the ship, and wanted to sail her again before she leaves for Australia.

I am also introducing my DH to her for the very first, second, and last time.

Since all the kids have families of their own, we decided to cruise for our Christmas! I will miss my parents 65th anniversary, but its totally ok with them.

See you all aboard! (well, not everyone, but who ever is cruising with us.. lol)

I will do a review of all the festivities upon my return, right here~

You will enjoy platinum congrats! I will also be on the dec 15th cruise! Last minute decision to join a few friends...:) can't wait! :p

10. Just wondering if anyone off her today and how their cruise was?

Read a bunch of mixed reviews and just curious.. Also have a few questions for recent legend cruisers....:p

Latest cocktail drink prices to decide if worth getting Cheers program...

Availability of escargot in MDR

Availability of nightly fresh sushi

Haven't been on her in a while so interested if any changes for when I go on her in 2 weeks.....Thanks

11. Hey everyone! I was wondering if anyone has ever gone on a "holiday" cruise with RCI. I am an avid cruiser with them and was just wondering the differences with a holiday 5 day cruise versus the normal week long cruise. Any clues as to what to expect for new years celebrations on the boat? Dinners? Any information on the boat in general? Anything is appreciated, thank you in advance! :)

I have sailed several NYE cruises...

I usually sail solo, although majority are families and couples, but for me I take the opportunity to make new friends and have some social interaction, rather than staying home and watching the ball drop on TV! Lol

Super party atmosphere..and Enchantment has a great and happy crew IMHO.

Lots of fun, party favors, champagne, and guests make the effort to don some lovely formal attire...also the NYE parade in Nassau is not to be missed...

Go! If you can, I am sure you won't be disappointed!

(Wish I could go this year, but too expensive for solo now...).

12. Thanks for everyones input. I'm on the Enchantment next Monday and I'm going to get the package. Even if I don't get my moneys worth everyday, it's worth it to me to not have that sticker shock on the last day.

I will be on Enchantment next Monday also... Go for the package you won't be disappointed I assure you! The staff and service are very good on there... Pool bar is my fave for service! Enjoy! :)

13. I have had the drinks package twice on Enchantment and cannot speak highly enough for the excellent bar serve at every venue I visited as well as all the bar staff....sorry to hear of posters negative experice.

I also tipped the staff at the most frequented bar I attended (pool bar) but not until end of cruise. Service was superb there!

14. This is my first time posting on here, but I'm no newbie to cruising (In fact, I've been on 12). Next year I will be graduating from college with a nursing degree, and I was wondering if anyone had any info on nurses on cruise ships. I think working on one would be amazing, but I don't know what lines require in terms of experience or what ship life is like. I figure I should do this type of thing while I'm young and don't have a lot of commitments yet :) Who wouldn't want to cruise 24/7!

My parents are platinum on Carnival and I'm two cruises away :) If I had the choice, Carnival or Princess would be my go to lines so if you know any bits of information I'd love to hear it :)

I can answer any questions you may have as I have worked as a nurse on a cruise ship for 3 contracts.... First and foremost you must have a few years of hospital experience incl ER and OR if possible, so probably at least 5 yrs post grad to get some of that. I was Senior nurse too and you really needed all that experience as you are the first to be called for any emergency and do not always get the good fortune to work with the best physicians. IMHO it was hit and miss, but then I am also talking about several years ago. I would hope and think that the training and expectations for them has improved since.

I would still recommend this for every nurse to try, as it was a great experience and I really enjoyed it. Made many wonderful friends too.

15. I am on the Allure today and it is true! $55 per person plus 15% gratuity. Both of us had to do it.

Includes: all house wine, beers (under $6.25), fountain soda, well, call or premium brands of liquor and frozen drinks.

Excludes: room service, specialty coffee, mini bar, canned soda, bottled water, and bottled juices.

Hi there, did it include Martinis and champagne cocktails etc?

I am going on a 5 day, so wondering it will be the same price of $55 for a shorter cruise....prob won't be worth it otherwise, but maybe you know? :)

Thanks

16. You mean there are 2 Joseph the supercharged maitre D's? LOL

The Joseph we had was the one in the picture.

Too funny...well the Joseph on Inspiration I wouldn't say was "supercharged" he was pleasant, polite, not much of a personality...

And he sure knew how to run on the last night to get his tips....

I watched him on several occasions run out to the exit area of the DR to see the passengers leaving...almost embarrassing to see....

But maybe I am wrong....
