Did you take a screen shot at the end?
    If so send them that.

No. I was stupid and didn't because it has never been an issue for me before. But I guess I told them enough about the webinar they are giving them to me (in July) "as a one-time gesture of goodwill".

Yeah I've never done a screenshot for the webinar before but now thinking I may after how many people have had issues with the last one.

Shouldn't have to do this much work for points lol

Agreed! I'm screenshotting everything after this.

The person I was messaging with even said to take a screenshot in the future. So they KNOW it's an issue.

My recent cruise they didn't give me double (it was a Celebrity suite so really wanted those points). I called once the points or half showed up, once on the phone with someone they could see the suite only had my name on the booking so agreed it was double points, they emailed another team and within a week maybe two I had the rest of the points

Oh I'm familiar with emailing after the fact.

Whoever I have been messaging with said that as a "one-time goodwill gesture" they will give me the 3 PUPs and I will get them on July 15. (I guess being able to tell them about things covered in the webinar proved to them that I did watch it?) They checked my upcoming reservation and verified that I am booked in as a solo and will get double points. I'm still prepared to email about it after the fact though.

I sort of feel like this is the crux of the issue and where transparency would go a long way.

From what I can tell, Celebrity expects to make 30+% of their revenue from sources other than just a "ticket".  So, they will either look to make MORE from the "whole" of all passengers, or focus on making a smaller group - aka solo passengers - pay significantly more while holding the line for the majority of passengers - ie double+ occupancy folks - to maintain the bottom line.  Assuming a normal cabin is regularly two "tickets", for every $1,000 in price, they also expect $450+ in "other" revenue (drinks, wifi, excursions, etc.).  It is vague whether pre-sailing purchases count towards this "onboard & other" category, but it makes sense that it would.

So, this seems to be where X would need to "make up" their revenue - the delta between the EXTRA "onboard and other revenue" they miss with a solo traveller.  So, even if a SOLO pays the double occupancy price, X is missing out on half the 31+% they expect beyond the ticket alone.  They definitely save a little on food, but not much on staffing or general "running the ship" costs having solo vs multiple passengers, so they are aiming to recoup some lost revenue somewhere.

Again, in the example of 2 passengers in a cabin, if the "ticket" for two is $1,000 each (double occupancy), and the estimated "other" of $450 each, that's $2,900 in expected revenue per cabin.  If a solo passenger comes along, and pays the double occupancy rate (full $2,000), and then also $450 for "other" stuff, it leaves X with a $450 deficit that they seemingly (and unclearly) reveal in the booking price in a vague way for folks looking to cruise solo.

    image.thumb.png.9eb8a53ffe95de34af38b7aeea571750.png

BUT are they tracking couples and their spending and then dinging them for the difference? If they are going to use this kind of thinking for solos, they should be tracking the spending of couples - especially repeat couples. If there are some who regularly do not spend anything extra (and there are people on here who have bragged about spending no extra) then their Captains Club numbers should be flagged and they should be assessed the extra charge as well. As it is, a couple could regularly sail and spend no extra and never get the "extra revenue tax" that solos get - even though that couple is not giving X any extra revenue.

On the flip side, a solo could regularly spend as much or more than the "expected" amount but never get credit for doing so. Again, if someone regularly does this, their CC number could be flagged and when they book as a solo they are not charged the "revenue tax" because they regularly spend the designated revenue amount.

THAT is where the disconnect comes in.

  5. Whelp. Looks like no 3 points for the Galapagos webinar for me. Whoever I am messaging with on FB says Captain’s Club says they have no record of me completing it.

I’m going to ask how I prove solo occupancy of the cabin for my upcoming cruise.

I don't think I've ever seen a "you are already signed up" screen.  I'm trying to always ask.  I also always do it twice, once under my last name and once under DH, because I'm not sure if it has to be the lead passenger and I'm not always sure who the lead is.

Yeah, I got the standard "Thank you for signing up" and took a picture of it. Just in case.

I just made a rookie mistake with GoGreen....I signed up (even noted the date) but neglected to confirm with cabin steward onboard. Called CC about missing points and she wanted to know if I had a screen shot of the sign up screen.  I did not (never even occurred to me),  so now I wait to see if they will give me the 5 points. It was my mistake to not confirm on board and in the future I will take a screen shot.

Oh wow! I have never had to confirm with my stateroom attendant. Guess I’m going back to the page to re-sign up and screen shot either the confirmation screen or the “you are already signed up” screen.

Wonder how I can show proof of solo occupancy in the cabin…

  8. Still none for me. I'm "talking" with someone via FB messenger, but it's looking not good (lots of "What is your full name again? When did you watch it? We need the exact date." and so forth). Lesson learned to take a picture of my finish screen.

At least I shouldn't *need* them to be Elite after my upcoming cruise. I need 83 points. I'm solo in an Aqua Class cabin on an 8-night - so that should be 80 points - and I'm signed up for GoGreen giving me an extra 5. It would just be nice to have that added cushion.

That would make an interesting app, one that put two solo travelers together in the same cabin with separate beds (hopefully of the same gender).

Back in the early 90s Royal Caribbean did offer a solo match - yes, only same gender matches. I looked into it, but ultimately decided against it when I saw the fine print that if there wasn't a match you would be charged the difference. And you wouldn't know that until too late to back out and the extra would be due on short notice.

Why do people keep comparing two different cruise lines 🤔

They were simply stating what they are accustomed to. Being new to Celebrity they are figuring out how it works on Celebrity.

Still waiting on 3 points for the Galapagos Islands 5/18/24.

Those will be (and always have been scheduled to be) around June 14. There's no "still waiting" until at least June 14 has come and gone.

Question - the move-up option is initiated by an email from Celebrity? You cannot start the process on your own?

And is this an option only after you’ve made your final payment? Or within 30 days of your cruise date?

    Thanks!

I think there is a way to do it on your own - I'm not positive as being solo it's never worth it. BUT I do know that if you use the big box store masquerading as a TA, you're not eligible. Possibly not with some general TA group rates either.

  13. According to this yes.

And as to why? Because some of us like to have as much paid for upfront as possible. Having a set amount you know is there also helps with staying in a budget.

OP, if if doesn't work to buy in advance, what I've done is take a set amount of cash to Guest Services on the first day and load my account that way.

$40 for the whole set, and something else per picture, I forget, we just got all of them because we were in quite a few.  They will show you all of them before you get off so you can make a decision.

If you are worried about having cash with you, don't.  This island isn't like many in the western Caribbean you might have been to that you don't want to be walking around with cash.  It's a very short walk from the boat with most of it being on hotel property behind a locked gate.  Even outside at the port no one is going to come up to you at all.

Sorry, one more question if you don't mind.

What was the lunch they include? I'm decided on doing the tour now, but deciding if I need to bring a Luna bar or the like to eat instead as there are some things I don't eat. 😛

    The good ones do. 🙂

I've also found that many times, especially in cities which receive a lot of international flights, rooms may actually be ready before check-out time.

Or else I've just gotten lucky in my trips to London, Barcelona, Dublin, Florence, and Rome in that I've always been given my room when I arrived at the hotel after my international flight.

    But it's always worth asking.

Thanks. It's more just liking to have everything covered, but it sounds like this is worth it.
