  1. Kim,

Again - awesome, fantastic review.. you really put so much work into these, and it was a lot of fun following your adventure in SE Asia. And I'm just going to come out and say it.: You are by far the best review writer on Cruise Critic.. no one even comes close, in my humble opinion.

It sounds like the ports, shore excursions and your overall itinerary was amazing. You clearly chose some great things to do. Though, it sounded like the ship was a bit of a snooze fest. (Not your fault) but the review lacked the fun "characters" that kept popping into the review of your birthday cruise. Maybe you'll have better table mates, or you can convince your Mom to join you on the next adventure.

Last comment: You mentioned you're starting to like land vacations as much (if not more) than cruises. Why do you think this is? I find myself in the same place right now with travel - I can explore far more on a land vacation on my own itinerary, although each type of vacation has it's own merits.

Again - thanks for writing, you have a true gift for it.

  2. I think that a big reason why the Sunshine gets disproportionate negative reviews is Carnival's fault for advertising Sunshine as a brand new ship and creating false expectations.

Magic is a brand new ship. Sunshine is a 20 year old ship which got a name change, was refurbished, cabins were added, and public areas removed, which gave it one of the worst space to passenger ratios in the entire cruise industry.

In my opinion, you will enjoy it as long as you go with REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS, in other words, not expecting the Magic.

Exactly. Couldn't have put it better.

  3. No offense taken. My apologies. I will bow out now and allow folks to carry on their discussion of multiple lobsters eaten. :)

Yes, let's move on. To something more interesting like what was the largest B.M. you made after eating a half dozen + lobster tails?

  4. Bunch of pigs. Didn't you know the MDR is fine dining for refined elegant night cruisers??? Take your gluttony out to the lido and easy with the rest of the unwashed masses. You dirty lobster eating hogs.

    CARNIVAL CUTBACK!!!!!

I think it's a great move. Cruise ship lobster is usually overcooked. I hope Carnival raised my divided by a penny per share with the savings.

Just feed me slop on a plate and cut my cruise fare, Carnival... enough with the pretense of the fancy menus.

    Let the crying begin! [emoji79]

  6. If Carnival books a large group, should they tell other customers about it before the ship sails?

I just found out today that our Sept 27th cruise has a very large contingent of Gothic passengers on board. It seems as though this group does a cruise annually and its members dress in black Gothic attire, and several Goth bands play throughout the cruise. This is beginning to look like this cruise in NOT going to be the quiet, relaxing cruise that I paid good money for. I believe Carnival should have notified all of those that booked this cruise to let us know. If I had known about this group, then I probably would have rescheduled my cruise.

    What would you do???

Why not go check out some of their concerts and talk to some of the group? You might find it a positive experience that makes your vacation more fun, rather than less relaxing.... you haven't even gotten on the ship yet.

  7. Let's see. You went on a budget cruise and got budget entertainment and budget food. You paid a budget cruse price. Yet you wanted a princess experience without paying for it.

I don't understand your logic or why you're complaining.

I've never been bored on a Carnival cruise......

  8. If being in a closed environment with 4000 other people from different cultures and backgrounds is a problem, cruising is not for you.

You can't count on your neighbor following all the rules or being mindful of people around them. If this is upsetting to you, cancel now or you will be disappointed.

  9. NCL is great with no dedicated dining times. They have amazing pizza that everyone loves. Great kids activities on deck, perfect for families. The big screen TV'S are awesome too. The MDR food is just as good as Carnival ' s, and there is about the same amount of nickel and diming. There's more, but I think you get the gist of it. IMO, NCL is a great cruise line, although I prefer Carnival.
