  1. We sailed on Seabourn in July 21 and in Feb of this year.    Jackets were rarely seen and I saw no dark suits.   Both cruises were to warm weather areas but the air conditioning on the Ovation was wonderful.   My husband wore a navy blazer and never felt underdressed on Seabourn.    Most men were wearing polo shirts without jackets.    He definitely brings a tux on the QM2 and enjoys wearing it on formal/gala evenings.    Maybe things have changed after the COVID shut down.   We enjoy both lines.

  2. If I paid to have a balcony with a verandah then learned someone with COVID was out on a nearby

balcony getting fresh air I would be very angry and concerned.   My right to disease free fresh air has now been violated.    I am all for isolation to keep the COVID virus from spreading.   If virus positive passengers are put into a balcony I would hope it is isolated down wind from healthy passengers.

  3. With a negative antigen test you will be able to fly to the U.S.    You won’t need a fit to fly certificate unless to PCR is required, and it is not.    If your antigen test is negative you can no longer spread the disease.   With the two of you sharing space on the ship, even in a RS, it was highly likely both of you would be infected.   Do you have a pulse oximeter(sp?).    I learned of several double boosted individuals that suddenly have difficulty breathing.   My sister, an MD in Philly, said it’s less likely to sneak up on you if you test your blood oxygen levels every three hours.   We now travel with one even though we have no lung issues.

  4. Your butler may have as many as 16 staterooms and not all on one deck.   On one cruise we were in a RS and the butler had to apologize to is about the lack of personal service.   There was an extremely needy couple, actually just the husband, who demanded the butler stand outside the Penthouse Suite in case he needed him.   Often times he had to be in the suite to pour drinks including water for the couple and also had to draw water for the bath.

Just have a frank discussion with your retreat host about your needs.

  5. Be sure to read the dress code suggestions for Cunard, especially the QM2.    Unlike Seabourn, passengers will dress for the evening.    Jackets for informal evenings and dark suits or tuxedos for formal evenings.    On Seabourn the dress for the evening is only a suggestion.

  6. If you are a military history buff don’t miss the Spitfire museum, or Solent Sky, museum.   It’s walkable from the port.   Of course there is the Titanic museum.    It’s a short hop by train the Portsmouth to the British Naval Museum.   The ships displayed are wonderful and you can tour the inside of Nelson’s ship the Victory.

  7. If Celebrity did not isolate the passengers testing positive would most likely continue to spread the virus.   The antigen test shows that you are capable of spreading the virus whether or not you have symptoms.   Prospective passengers should be aware of the probable isolation rules before they make the decision to cruise.       The fact that some passengers have been allowed to isolate in their own cabins should not cause other passengers to expect similar experiences.

  8. I wonder how the passengers feel who can only afford inside or outside Oceanview cabins.   Everyone says that staying in these cabins is inhumane.    Will those staying in an inside room be upgraded to an Oceanview room if they are placed in isolation.   I know you are in isolation but it is hardly jail.

  9. Now we all know that there is no equal treatment for those testing positive with COVID.    You were allowed to remain in your RS and were served on China instead of paper.    Smoking in a RS bathroom or on the balcony will cause problems for those using your cabin on the next sailing.   We will see if your debarkation is similar to JetBlues.    Being a Zenith passenger also may have played a part in your treatment.

  10. If Celebrity would confine you to your original cabin, this would ensure your wife, husband, partner or friend would also be confined and would most likely catch COVID.   They couldn’t have one person in a cabin confined and another roaming the ship.    Right now if your cabin mates has two negative tests, they can go out and enjoy the cruise albeit without you.

  11. Love the pizza (it’s not flatbread) and you can toss it yourself.   You don’t toss flatbread.    We also enjoyed the steaks when we shared them as they provide too big a portion.   We also shared sides and enjoyed them.   The warm chocolate chip cookie dessert is also decadent.   We ate there five times on our last transatlantic.   It was cool but we dressed .   We are from the east coast so we know pizza!

  12. As I now understand it, on Holland American if you test positive you stay in your cabin.   Guess this means any person(s) sharing your cabin will also be forced to quarantine and will most definitely catch COVID from you.     At least Celebrity gives your cabin mates(s) the option of remaining in your assigned cabin.   Going forward anyone cruising on Celebrity should expect to be quarantined in an Oceanview cabin at least on the “S” class ships.    If you don’t  agree with the policy you should cancel your cruise(s).    You can cruise on another line where you agree with their COVID isolation policy.

  13. In February there were very limited hours for the medical center and you had to make an appointment to visit.   With COVID still so prevalent it would be safer to bring your own portable machine, that way you won’t risk catching COVID by visiting the medical center daily.

  14. We were on a Seabourn eastbound transpacific from Japan and the Captain turned the clocks forward at 2 pm each afternoon.    Liked that better than losing an hour of sleep for seven nights.   Glad to hear the QM2 will probably also do a daytime time change.   She does not do a fast trip across the Atlantic as it is a seven night sailing East and Westbound.   Of course she can sail much faster but passengers no longer want a fast crossing.
