  1. We did a walking tour on our own... we googled it and there are several routes posted online. We walked from port up the hill to the Queen"s staircase and waterfall, then the fort, then back down to the bus pickup spot and took that #5 bus(?) to the big food restaurant spot, ate lunch, then walked from there back to port shopping along the way. Made for about a 4 hour trip. You can make the loop as big or small as you want.
  2. EVERYTHING on the east side of the island is primitive.... meaning NO ELECTRICITY...meaning CASH only. Food and drinks and anything else must be paid in cash. Don't go over there and run out of money.
  3. Cozumel has dozens and dozens of private dive operators and instructors to choose from and they will most likely have arrangements for the whole family. It totally depends on the company and where they are located. Many do not have a shop, they are independent. I can't personally recommend anyone, but if you google search the topic you will come up with lots of them to contact. We got certified in Cozumel with Papahogs in 2000, so many years ago. Just send out some e-mails to a bunch of them, and see what you find. A lot depends on your port time, too.
  4. Our cruise it wasn't college kids.... it was the teens on the cruise with parents.
  5. Yikes, we did the same one a few years ago and some of the kids were out of control. The hot tubs were full all week with a dozen teens or more, all jumping off the edge doing cannonballs, etc. Nobody did anything. Also the kids running in halls, slamming into people, food fight on Lido one lunch. No kidding... where are these horrible parents? We did get to see one of the rowdy teens with a broken ankle using a knee scooter halfway thru the cruise...Karma. The cruise was great except for these incidents which were mainly the Sea Days.
  6. Agree with your food assessments....our trip on Splendor in Alaska - Salmon is always good but the veg side dishes every meal was either raw or mush. Totally disappointing. The Splendor has the Indian food at lunch at Masala Tiger which turned out to be the best food on the ship. Ate there 3 lunches and the line was always long after Day 1. Deli, Pizza, and Mongollian Wok lines were long and slow, no way I stand in line that long! Wish there was a Blue Iguana on this ship! We did Uxmal several years ago.... so totally worth the long bus ride!!! We loved it, even though it rained and we didn't get to walk around at the end. It was perfect otherwise. We did the ship's excursion as it is such a long trip and we got back with only about a half hour to spare for shopping at port, which was fine.
