Everyone just needs to break down and get a passport.  Although you can do closed loops to the Caribbean from the US with a birth certificate and a state ID, it's not advisable.  In the event of an emergency, if you do not have a passport, you are very limited as to what you can do.  Emergency back home and no passport, can't fly home.  Unexpected illness or injury that causes you or travel companion to have to leave sailing for land based care, you will have a bureaucratic hill to climb with the local consulate to get you a passport so you can travel home.  Yes, these are highly unlikely, but if they happen, the last thing you want to have to deal with is figuring out how you're going to get home.

The passenger can exit the ship in Canada, just can't fly from there.

If you do travel with only a US birth certificate and driver's license, and some emergency arises while you are in Canada, note that you will not be able to fly back into the US (you would have to get back by land or sea).

I've just posted a vlog of my Coral Princess embarkation day in Whittier, Alaska. This was the beginning of a 7-day Southbound voyage of the glaciers that I booked on a crazy Drop & Go sale ($298, solo). The embarkation process at this port is very different from all the other cruises I've been on.

I enjoyed the new song Princess has for the muster drill and was SO HAPPY to find out that they upgraded from the pay per-minute internet to offering a three-tiered package. I think the internet pricing might be a transitional thing that will phase out when ships are upgraded to Medallion, I would like to know what the pricing looks like on Medallion ships if anyone can share!

I work at the port and probably saw you.

How far in advance  of my sailing should I be able to link my reservation in the Medallion Class app?  I've entered my name and booking # exactly, but it cannot find it.  It is easily visible on the website's Cruise Personalizer though.  I'm still 197 days out at this point. Any knowledgeable answer is appreciated.  I don't want to spend time on phone with Princess unless absolutely necessary.  You all know the answer, right?  😀

Once paid in full and 75 days out

Very frustrated with the  app.  I still cannot get it to recognize my booking number. We are 47 days out from our sailing.  I've made three phone calls to the "Ocean Navigator" line and I keep being told call back in a week and they've opened a ticket.

I'm wondering if the problem is my device, although I can't get it to add on the ocean website either. Anyone else with a Samsung Galaxy having issues?

You can enter at the 75th day out.

  5. There are 4 fare types with EZAir

    First Class

    Business

    Economy

    Premium Economy

I believe the real driver on a fare is the city you leave from. Some places cost more. We are limited for the departure times. We don't want to fly in the middle of the night. I don't like EXAir. Not worth a few $ savings to have a flight changed 2 or 3 times.

I am going on the Grand Princess in December. They have not converted to the Medallion but I have read that they are using contactless cruise cards now. Is the Ocean Ready app of any use before or during my cruise? Is this the same app that allows texting between passengers?

No. Ocean Ready is only used with a Medallion ship.

You're probably right - she sure isn't getting the reviews that other ships usually get in Alaska. However, I have done Alaska so many times that this trip is more about taking a cheap trip rather than staying home. The price was right, I can walk to the port, and maybe I will get lucky and be offered a move-over so I can grab that Hawaii cruise I can't afford! LOL

It's early in the season. The Royal is doing her first trip to Alaska. I have heard excellent reviews.

    Not sure about that....

I did a cruise to Hawaii in 2018 - priced out the exact same cruise for 2019 and it was almost three times as much!

Many times there will be 2 sailings on a popular  itinerary with 1 being in the spring (which are higher because of the time of year). One in Oct will always be less than one in March. That's how vacations and seasons go.

It all depends on where you are cruising. I was looking at a Princess cruise in Europe this summer (that I had sailed last summer) and it was quite a bit more than last year - approx 60% more. There will always be cheap Mexican, Alaskan and Caribbean cruises for those who want them.

There is nothing cheap about Alaskan and Caribbean cruises unless you take a cruise for 3 or 4 days

  10. For those who are concerned with the Medallion and security, I received this reply when asking if a found Medallion would list the cabin number on the look up board.

    Dear Mrs. Wigandt,

I received your recent e-mail.  The Ocean Medallion comes engraved around the edge with the guest/’s name and the ship and embarkation date.  It would not be able to do any sort of search for more details about a passenger or be used for onboard services or charges without a PIN.  If you have added questions the crew aboard will be more than happy to assist and in the unlikely event the medallion is lost or damaged it can be replaced aboard.  I hope this information is helpful.  We look forward to welcoming you aboard!

    Best regards,

IDK what your reference base is for that but if a passenger is on Medallion Net which was the context, then these apps work.  On the ancient internet ...no.  On a ship with the three package levels of unlimited which is not Medallion then you have to have the top package to use these apps.

The apps for the Medallion Ships are. Ocean Ready, Ocean View, Ocean Compass and Play Ocean

You will need to order them on the Ocean Ready App.  confirm your mailing address and any paid accessories if you wish to and the will ship them out a couple of weeks prior.  If you don't order them, they will be waiting for you at the pier.

The Medallion is is ionky mailed to guests in the US

I said the increase was in drink package cost, not gratuities.

You also mentioned gratuities saying 'Just in the last couple of weeks Princess has announced an increase in the daily tips added to your folio.'

The gratuities are what increased (not the package itself) from 15 to 18 percent. Nothing increased 40 percent.

There was a thread yesterday about people touting their Princess level, so you might just not have read enough  😀

Loyalty should be earned.  I've never cruised another line than Princess, but I have seen the product degrade some in various areas since I took my first cruise in 2006.  I've not looked at other lines very closely, but have been tempted to consider another one just as a reference point.

Just in the last couple of weeks Princess has announced an increase in the daily tips added to your folio, and have increased drink prices for some packages by 40% or more.  My loyalty is waning a bit for sure.

Gratuities went from 15 to 18 percent. There was no 40 percent increase. The increase in gratuities includes any drink packages
