Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I was a guest speaker (pop music topics) on the Feb 14, 2022, voyage to Antarctica. We had several weddings and vow renewals on this voyage that made it really special. Thank you for your review and photos! It all brought back some very special memories for me, including the Drake Shake! A great ship and a great crew... and the other-worldly views of Antarctica! I would look forward to sailing with Atlas again someday!
  2. I'm an enrichment speaker (Pop Music History topics) and went with Atlas Ocean Voyages to Antarctica. Sometimes you get the Drake Shakes, and sometimes if you're lucky you get a Drake Lake. We got the Shakes going and coming, even worse coming back (ship's crew said it was the worst they had seen all season.) Only cruise I've used the patch as a precautionary measure. I have a Hawaii cruise with Royal Caribbean coming up in September and a transatlantic with Celebrity in October. I'm glad to have this app in my travel arsenal. The ship's captain usually makes daily announcements and even predictions regarding weather and waves. Of course, too late to get off then. Ha!
  3. I took a cruise to Antarctica in February and was concerned (properly, it turns out) about the Drake Passage. I used an app called Predict Wind (I think there is a website by that name also) that has current conditions and forecasted conditions for temps, precipitation, and wind (of course). But there is also a tab for wave conditions... world wide. At least in the short term it was very accurate and easy to read. Naturally the longer out the forecast = less accurate.
  4. I sailed as a guest speaker on the February 14 sailing to Antarctica. I had read CC trip reports of earlier sailings beforehand , some of which had difficulties no doubt. But I can think of no lingering problem or bad memory from trip at all! My memories are of flight problems and airport problems. Those were not Atlas’ fault and those challenges continue even this summer. One thing I’ll add is to note the difference between an expedition cruise, which is what Antarctica is, and a more relaxed, “vacation “ like cruise. The experiences are quite different and it is wise to prepare your expectations. I’ve got great memories and great photos! I hope you enjoy your trip as well.
