On page 16 of this thread Pescado Amarillo posted that all 139 balcony cabins on the isolation deck were full and they were now using inside cabins (likely for crew).  So the pax experience is bound to be either great or awful, great if they are not in "covid jail" and awful if they are.

    Thank you for the info.

Now that is a lot.  Just a thought.. If 139 PAX were all sharing a cabin for two, that is 278 people have/  or been exposed to covid.  Those 278 PAX have mixed to some extent (close or casual) with other PAX and crew.  That is more exposure that I would like.  I guess I am staying on land!!

  2. I just checked the CDC web site.  The ship is in code orange.  So, to me it looks like there are more than the cases that I have read about on this thread.  How many, I don't know.  Of course, there can be undetected cases too.  As for exposure to other  PAX ,well . I just think about when I was on a cruise ship and how many people I came in contact with per day.  It was  a lot.

I don't have the answers, but as cases get reported the answer will come out.

I am aboard the Ruby Princess and have been for the last 14 days

I can assure all that these rumours of widespread covid exposure and confused passengers are NOT being observed.

From Cruise Critic posts only we know of a “handful” of covid cases from passengers or SO that have publicly shared their covid test results and quarantine experiences.

As I walk around the ship everything seems calm, and routine.  I base this on this being my 39th Princess cruise.

    • Have any have Ruby’s events or tours been cancelled or changed due to covid?  No

    • Has Ruby Princess changed the mask guidance from “optional” indoors (with a few exceptions) to “required” ?  No

    • Has the sign at the elevators about masking been changed from “suggested” to “required” ?  No

    • Have passengers been talking about covid aboard or expressing any worries?  Rarely.  Weather is a more common topic since we never found warm weather.

    • Do any of the passengers seem worried or concerned?  No

    • How many passengers are waiting in the line to chat with guest services?  As of 940am….one.  Seems calm to me.

    • Did the Ruby have a covid issue on the PRIOR cruise that visited South America and Central America?  Yes.   During the Panama Canal cruise, not this cruise, passenger masking was made mandatory.

A more believable rumour would be that the barrel chairs removed from the balcony cabins a few years ago have been found!  Rumour is they were hiding with the extra butter pats missing from the MDR.

Do you have a number of the PAX with Covid on Board?

    Thank you.

  4. 1. Princess knows that there is covid.

    2. Princess had dealt with covid before.
    3. Princess knows that PAX and crew might come down with covid on a cruise.
    4. Princess has a obligation to care for the sick on board.
    5. Princess has a  obligation to feed all on board in a timely manner.
    6. Princess knows that a out break could happen on board their ship, and they should have enough personal to handle the out break.
    7. If they can't handle the outbreak and care for the sick, then they should return to port, or transport the sick back to port..

  5. Very happy to hear that you  arrived home and self-tested negative.  I hope your husband will be able to fly home soon and test neg. I agree with your advice of not cruising.  We don't see us cruising for a long time or maybe never again.

Very sorry to hear about what you went through.

Last night was very stressful for those in quarantine to be able to place their dinner order as the dine line phone rang for over 2 hours with no one answering.  I called guest services twice to complain as my husband was texting me about being on hold for so long.  Finally at 9 pm I called guest services a 2nd time and got rude with them and demanded they do something to get food to my diabetic husband before they had an emergency on their hands.  They had me text him to hang up and someone called him to take his order and by 9:30 he finally got dinner.

The reason people for this:  when the mask mandate came back people panicked.  Everyone decided they wanted room service dinner yesterday and that overwhelmed them.  Also when the letter came out that the numbers were up people who had brought test kits with them started using them and asystemic people found put they had covid and 911 was overwhelmed with calls for hours.

Room service should be given a list of PAX/cabins of the people in quarantine.  And when a quarantine PAX calls room service they should be served first, above non-quarantine PAX.

Well I am on the next sailing of the Ruby Princess, not the news I wanted to wake up to!

Don’t mind masking but no chance I can find any KN95 now before flying this morning.

Hopefully the increased numbers on the March 27th sailing won’t be a huge mistake by Princess.  I realized we need to get back to “normal” but it should be a slower process and perhaps not in conjunction with no masks and the return of self serve buffets.

You might try calling your local pharmacy and see if they have any of the Government issued N-95 masks.  They will give you 3 per person.   In my town they are still giving them out.

  9. Hi,

I have never done the train trip from Buffalo to Fort Lauderdale or Miami.  With that being said I have done many times from Rochester NY (the stop before Buffalo).  The ride should take about 7 hours BUT it is All ways late.  I have been on the train for up to 10 hours.  You would have to connect in Penn Station NYC to go south.  I also have gone from NY Penn station to North Carolina.  A long trip too.

I would not do this type of trip with out getting a roomette.  For me the whole trip is just too long.

Have you thought of flying out of Buffalo?

You might be able to get the train in Canada.  The train can be held up at the boarder for hours at times. I know this because it is one of the same trains that makes pick up in Rochester.

I finished my daughter's robe and It's on it's way to CA with my other daughter. I think the pockets turned out well considering I lost the pattern and had to improvise. The print was a bit uneven, so matching was a crap shoot. I even sent the thread so she can alter if she needs to.

Let us know how she liked the robe.

  11. We like to be call by our first names.  Just like the staff/crew gives us their first name for us to call them by.  For us we are all equal.  The only difference is that we are paying for the cruise and they are working, and for us there no difference in respect for workers..

But everyone has their own way of seeing things.  And I respect that too.

  12. The only thing that might not work for you is that there is only one chair in the cabin.  This was the way it was the last time I sailed before covid on Regal.  You can ask for a second chair, but may not get it. I was told from the head office.   Before covid all inside, outside and regular balcony cabins lost the second chair. Some people don't mind sitting on a bed.  But for 28 days.....

  13. I read you link.  It could also mean

    • state or local health department notified CDC of passenger COVID-19 cases occurring within 5 days of disembarkation.
    • So, there is a chance that the infected person/persons in not on the ship now?
