Did they give you the option of cancellation with a full refund, and offer to pay any costs you may have , e.g. hotel at port.

    They should do

    Yes, they did.
I think I’ll call our travel agent tomorrow. I want to know what the issue is. P&O “didn’t know!”

they've moved us to a conservatory mini suite on deck 9.

  2. We are sailing on Iona in 3 weeks. Yesterday we received a call from P&O informing us we have been downgraded to a mini-suite due to “safety issues”. We were due to be in one of the forward

    suites on deck 12.

Anyone got any idea What the “safety issue” might be?

  3. As a UK resident both of these seem crazy to me - on our little island we find any distance a chore! 😂

if you’d like a suggestion, I would recommend either hiring a car or getting a taxi and going to Lymington (or if you hire a car you could just explore the South coast, which is beautiful).

Lymington is a lovely Georgian town with an active sailing scene, loads of fabulous places to eat and a very pretty nature reserve walk.

However, if you’d like a recommendation between the two, I would also go for Windsor for exactly the reasons given by BklynBorn47. It’s an extremely pretty town and quintessentially English. The late Queen’s favourite home 🥺and home to Eton Collage. 😊

    Ehg Hi

Trust all is well. with both of you

    My answer is two fold

    1/ Why limit yourselves?🤣

    2/ Spontaneity

Hi Ivor! I was just thinking about you as I was reading the latest responses and hoping you are both well!
It’s not looking promising for the drinks package I don’t think!
How lovely to hear from you. Sending lots of love to you both. 😘😘

We have just come off Britannia having had the drinks package.

We probably had good value out of it, but I wouldn’t do it again! It was ok for us because we had two kids included, we like bottled water, and had a couple of costa’s a day, on top of alcoholic drinks. Inevitably we got the odd mock tail for the kids on the side.

however, it drove me mad. Things like J20 not included, no fever tree for G&T, and about 4 cocktails in total are included, the rest are extra. This made it limiting which then meant we chose the drinks that were included rather than the ones we liked. I regret that.

also, once i wanted a small can of beer for the room - to put in the fridge - and they refused to sell it without opening it first, which led to some words being exchanged (i do feel sorry for the bar staff and endeavour to be thoughtful but also express my disappointment so they can feed it back)

    Buyer beware.

Why are you baffled at the qustion coming up? Most people asking are yet to cruise and are looking for a heads up from those with recent experience.

I also doubt anyone has a total handle on the full extent of the absurd restrictions. I was told on a  P&O cruise this year that some wines listed  in The Glass House were not allowed despite being 6.95. They refered me to the T&C's which mean they have full discretion on what is included / excluded.  You end up drinking what you can have rather than what you want. You onlly realise how bad the package  is by having the misfotunate to have chosen to buy it. P&O should drop it, ot at the very least stop calling it Ultimate.

Thank you both for these really helpful responses.
You’re right that we have previously had the  premium drinks package on Celebrity which basically means you don’t have to pay for anything extra. And we’ve not sailed on P&O since the drinks package was introduced, so we’re curing to know how it compares.
Not well it seems! I think we will board and decide, but I’m so glad I asked the question as the responses are really helping me. Xxx

It’s a very personal decision, for me it’s not about the value, I can see how easy it is for all drinks throughout a day to equal more than £40 a day.  However, on P&O I would never buy the drinks package.

With a limit of £6.95 per drink, and further restrictions it just isn’t something that would work for us.
when it comes to soft drinks I prefer the bottle, canned, varieties rather than the fountain drinks.  With my Gin I prefer a fever tree tonic. In the Glass house I like a Peller Ice Cuvee, or a Whispering Angel/Miraval Rose, none of which is included in the package.

So you have to think about what your usual drinks orders are to decide if it is worth it for you.

It seems we have similar drink taste!

  7. I tried to search for this information on the P&O boards but got 8 “pages” in and only found one post about it and the comments were quite old.
We’re sailing on Iona in February next year, it’s our first P&O cruise since the drinks package was introduced. I remember there was some discussion on here at that time about it not being the greatest deal or even worth getting at all. The thread I found seemed to back that up with people saying they refuse to serve doubles (even of espresso!), charging full price (with a discount) for drinks over the maximum limit etc.

The last comments on the thread were from April I think and there was speculation that P&O might make some improvements to the package.
So my question is to those who have cruised recently and can tell me if it’s a good deal?

    Thank you 😊

You'll love it, MSC have been doing a really good job out of Southampton.

Great to hear. It’s brilliant to have more choices sailing from the UK. The reason we love cruises is for the fantastic convenience, so it’s super for us.
Now we just need a few more lines to stay and do winter itineraries…🤞🏼😃

EHG - Stop thinking and just book it 🙂 Sorry, that's just me trying to live vicariously through you!

I cannot answer how the cruise lines match one another, but here is a PDF all about the MSC program https://www.msccruisesgetforms.com/cms/Flyers/2020/20-076-StatusMatch9-3-20.pdf

Also, I don't think it's too much to ask for authentic Champagne. I am not able to answer whether they serve it on MSC, but my goodness, I can only assume so. That seems like it would be such a common request and easy to accommodate. But someone else can answer for me more accurately.

I am glad you found this thread to be useful. I wish I had known these things long ago before we booked the first MSC cruise in 2016. We would have sailed YC instead of Aurea. So I am happy to share what I know and feel, and I am thrilled others have chimed in to fix my errors!

    Cheers!

    All booked!
    Very excited.
Thank you so much for all the info. 🥰

  10. Hi 👋🏻

We are thinking of booking our first MSC cruise in YC next September. We are Elite on Celebrity, so have I understood correctly that we can use this status on MSC?

Also, I hope I don’t sound like the “gentleman” referred to in this thread kicking off about champagne, but our cruise buddies only drink champagne 🥴

They don’t mind if it’s not top notch but it must be real champagne. Can anyone let me know if this would be included in the cruise fare?

This thread has been incredibly useful, so thank you to the author and contributors. 😊

    Thanks for the info

If it socks in Southampton, which I think it will, then there is a great shopping centre within easy walking distance from the dock. There is a big Waterstones bookshop in there. Also plenty of places for Cadbury’s. 😊

Oh one more question if you don't mind - the Enclave. Is that one complimentary access per person in the Sky Suite or do we get to go to it anytime during the cruise? I think that's my last one. Thanks! 🙂

On board now and you get access for the whole cruise. We will be heading down shortly. 😃
