  1. Nobody said someone else's dress ruined their day or vacation. Its just an observation about showing respect and following the guidelines and having some manners. How long would it take for most to complain if the MDR staff served in jeans and T-shirt? Most would be mortified. The cleanliness and fine appearance of the staff and others around you deserves reciprocation. An hour to do that is not much to ask by them.

  2. I do believe that forcing someone to do something they do not want to do, is a form of disrespect.
Nobody is forcing them to eat in the MDR where rules/standards are set before they arrive. They can eat in their bathing suit and flip flops at the buffett.
  3. Not following guidelines is disrespecting others. If smart causal means no shorts in the MDR. Then simply no shorts should be allowed. Period.

Why shouldn't the guidelines apply to everyone?

Oh just because they don't feel like abiding by them. Should not be a justified reason.

There are plenty of places on the boat that shorts are perfectly fine and welcomed.

    ^^^^^^ This.... 100%
  4. What's wrong with khakis and polo. It's within dress code for all nights. I know I haven't missed anything.
Read my earlier post, I suggested khakis and the such .... nothing wrong with that and a polo. A few weeks ago in the INDY MDR a "Dude' with he tennis shoes, sunglasses, jeans and washed out ten year old Harley Davidson t-shirt ..... Harley hard-ass* wannabe and too cool to dress up guy ...... was unacceptable IMO and that's what I'm talking about.
  5. Following up to what I posted, I am a blue collar union construction worker. I get dirty at work, my work clothes are beat up, and yet I know, follow, and accept what is expected in my attire on board the ship and in the MDR. I have the same pet peaves at weddings and funerals. Don't come to my daughters wedding reception in shorts, tennis shoes, and a t-shirt. Don't come to mom's funeral or the MDR on a cruise like that either. Show some self respect, respect to your hosts and others around you. Follow the dress code recommendations.

  6. I think that it is a disturbing trend that people are wearing track suit bottoms, tank tops and shorts in the |MDR and then as if that wasnt bad enough, others are applauding it.

As crusiing has got cheaper, so has the approach of some, a tiny minority at the moment, resorted to wearing tank tops and flip flops and dare I saw it bathroom robes by the pool.

Its a reflection of sad times ahead for cruising.

To the OP, the suggested attire for the evening should be worn and followed, otherwise you will stick out like a sore thumb.

    .

I agree, slobs rolling into the MDR dressed for Wal-Mart decays the experience for others. Keep your hockey jersey, Harley Davidson T-shirt and jeans for the Windjammer. If you can afford to walk aboard the Oasis you can afford to by some dress slacks and/or khakis for the MDR. I agree with Lynn, lets stop applauding the dumbing down of the MDR experience. What's next, Applauding going shirtless in the MDR?
  7. I've only been on six cruises but have been fortunate enough to have some nice countries all over the world. I would love to do Australia/New Zealand and one to China to see the great wall. I look at many of the CC members signatures and am amazed to see so many have taken 15-20-25 cruises and they've all been caribbean cruises or Mexico. I can't believe so many haven't ventured out to at least Alaska. Some people have been to the same ports so many times they don't even get off the boat. I don't understand why they bother to go. So much world to see out there and I can get my fill of beach sand pretty easily ..... not counting the sand in Cairo and the pyramids we did. ;)

  8. Wow... I don't even worry about if our KIDS would miss us. Let alone cats. On their return, the cats will be excited for all of about one and a half minutes, then go right back to sleep on Laz-y-boy.

    dp

^^^^^^^^^ THIS and tell your people to get a grip. The cats could care less if your gone. A cat can live falling from atop a telephone pole, they can certainly live without their owners while spread out on a couch licking their crotches in peace and quiet for 12 days.
  9. After cruising on the Oasis the last two years and having a great time we tried the Independence. Our dining room experience was a 5 out of 10. Stateroom attendant was as good or better than any we have ever had. Ports were a lot of fun. We enjoyed the beach area at Labadee.

    Debarkation was very slow!

Next year Allure, here we come!

 So besides the dining room being so-so and getting off the ship it was good? You need to sound angrier then that.....
  10. The free UBP promotion was the deciding factor in choosing NCL Getaway for my next cruise. (First time on NCL) In fact, having not sailed yet, I booked another cruise for December before the promotion ended...
Pretty much the same here. I just got off a RC cruise two weeks ago. I've also sailed on Carnival, Princess, and HAL. The drink package promo was very tempting considering it would cost about $700 on most lines for a seven day cruise. I've never sailed NCL but with that promo plus both kids sailing free on the new Escape next year it was the best deal around so I booked it. We put our drink package to heavy use two weeks ago on our RC cruise! :D
  11. I saw slobs in their 15 year old Harley Davidson t-shirts and jeans in the MDR on the INDY a couple weeks ago. Show a little respect to the staff and other cruisers. Guy looked like he just stepped out of a truckers rest stop. Should have fed him his food from a styrofoam container. Flame me if you want but it's no different then showing up to a funeral in shorts and a wife beater.

  12. I got off the Indy last weekend ..... I can't see how simply falling and getting pushed to the back wall by the water would crack your skull. My 7 year old daughter rode it and fell off numerous times to be swept back gingerly. The person who hurt their head had to be standing and a major fall on their head to have that type of injury ..... that couldn't happen in my mind with basic operation of the flowrider.

  13. I just got off the Indy last week with my two kids. There was never a moment when the arcade was free, as it was quite the opposite. Always very expensive and very very empty because of that .......

  14. I do not use hand sanitiser. Ever.

The reason for this is that despite being an otherwise healthy non-smoker in my 20's, I have shockingly poor circulation. As a result, when I use alcohol based hand gel, my super fragile, blood-deprived skin occasionally splits open. Literally splits. So that my hands bleed. Unless I'm missing something, smearing blood around is kinda unhygienic.

If I instead wash my hands with warm water and soap, and then immediately moisturise, my hands are fine (well, better).

Why am I telling you all this? Because I think it can be easy to judge those not using sanitiser as "dirty" or "selfish". This might be true. Or it might be that they have a legitimate reason and find alternative ways to keep others safe. Unless you know them, you can't know.

Ok, how many people that walk past the hand sanitizer have the same issue as you? Zero? People walk past the hand sanitizer because they don't care about germs nor spreading them. They are perfectly content with pissing and pooping, scratching their rears and balls, not washing their hands and then grabbing the tongs for the food with you right behind them. That's the truth ......
  15. I'm soooo glas I booked the Escape and got the UBP before it expired. Why so much? My family and I just got off the RC Indepenedence of the Seas this past sunday. We had their premium deink package for the 8 day cruise. I myself probably had between 50-60 drinks over the 8 day period. I got waaaayyyyy more out of the package then I would have paying cash for each. I figure I will save myself and DW at least a $1000 alcohol tab on the Escape next year by getting the drink promo before it was gone. This is above and beyond any value the current promos can offer. The beverage package was the deal maker for me and both kids sail free too! Great deal!!

  16. There was a group of over 100 Steam-punk fans on board who were dressed to the nines in Victorian costumes each night.

We were wondering what type of group all of those who were dressed up belonged to. I agree, some very creative outfits and a lot of head turning. :)
  17. We throw a few matchbox cars and a couple of tennis balls on those stairs and we can really get this thing cranked up fast! :)
Carl, you're on to something! Ball bearings for you and ball joint surgeries for me! ;) ...... To be honest, I'm not an orthopedic surgeon. I'm a proctologist.
  18. Just for fun :)

Just curious if you are Medical doctor? If so, what specialty is it that you practice that allows you to simply look at someone and determine their current health condition with any examination or testing?

I am an orthopedic surgeon, a mean spirited one apparently.
