  1. No. The MVJ database is locked by booking number and a single connection. Only one connection may update it. The other will get an error if it tries to do something simultaneously.
  2. I used ACH recently and this was not my experience. Once entered into MVJ you just select it for your payment type. No muss, no fuss.
  3. Typically pricing and times are available on MVJ at around 100 days from departure. You can’t book anything but you can view them. For planning purposes, after you book your cruise you can request a PDF from Viking of what is typically offered but these are subject to change.
  4. Book the optional tours you most desire first as they may in higher demand and have limited seating. Book each one and pay immediately, then move to the next. Having a reservation in your shopping cart doesn't guarantee a seat until you checkout and it is entirely possible to be shut out while you are "shopping.'" Included tours will be available, maybe not at your desired time, but available. When necessary Viking adds extra guides/busses/times to assure everyone can get an included tour. There are of course exceptions. Also, if you cannot get a desired tour keep checking MVJ daily. Sometimes there are cancellations and for high demand tours, sometimes Viking adds additional resources. Also check when you board as people's plans change and seats may become available.
  5. Actually, it was misidentified and is not Agamemnon. Viking TV has a lecture about ancient Troy and part of it deals with the dig at Mycenae. This is also mentioned when you visit Mycenae, a tour I highly recommend. Anyone planning a trip to Greece should watch this video https://viking.tv/tv/this-week-on-viking-tv/tuesdays/unravel-the-mysteries-of-the-trojan-war-with-author-david-rohl Mycenae

  7. Yes. You do not need to leave your luggage out the night before. Seems like a big inconvenience to carry bangs down the gangway.
  8. When we were there, we were told Chioggia can only dock one ship. If that is occupied, Fusina (“the ugly place”) is used. I’m assuming Fusina is also at capacity.
  9. We have visited Bruges twice with Viking, once a river pre-cruise extension and once with VO. I would not consider it demanding. It’s all flat albeit some cobblestones. It is a long day of walking but that is about it. Bruges is a fabulous experience. On our river cruise we took the tour of the only brewery in the old city. Because vehicles are prohibited or severely limited in the old town, they built a pipeline to transport their beer outside the old city walls. Be sure to buy a Bruges Zot shirt at the brewery.
  10. It really depends on the cruise director, itinerary, ship, and lecturers. Too many variables to post anything on a website.
  11. Thanks. My spellchecker must have been coded in New Jersey.
  12. On our sea days we had a ship’s tour of the Bayonne tapestry that decorates the stairwells, daytime lectures in the star theater, afternoon trivia in the Explorer’s Lounge, special themed food and entertainment in the pool area, and boardgames setup in Manfredi’s.
  13. Russell Lee is top notch. His presentation style is reminiscent of James Burke of BBC Connections fame. I had a chance to chat with Russell and he told me he was indeed a fan of Connections. For those who have not yet encountered Russell, some of his great presentations were aired by Viking TV during COVID lockdown. All are wonderful. The Mona Lisa Tulip Mania Gods, Heroes, and Monsters
  14. They are part of the crew, so no. That is part of the gratuities you pay (either added on your invoice for US, Canadian pax, or included for Brit. Oz, Kiwi pax). As always you may feel to give a special tip to a crew member but not when you are boarding / unboarding the special ops equipment. 3rd party operators are a different matter. Tip the bus drivers, tour guides what ever you like, if they warrant it.
  15. Viking does targeted marketing and no one has been able to figure out the pattern. DW gets all sorts of mailings and emails even though I'm the one making the bookings. I guess their algorithm calculates her demographic is more influential in getting me to book.😂 I suggest you follow the Post Promos thread where people post the latest promo codes and offers.
  16. Whatever you choose, you need to tell an entertaining story.
  17. Always a good idea to introduce yourself to the sommelier and ask for a recommendation. By chance we found that at lunch time he is often in the back of the WC at the bar checking on the wine stock. (We prefer to eat in this area as we find it quieter.) He recognized us, said hello, brought us our preferred wine, and gave instructions to the wait staff as to what to serve us. Excellent service, and we made a point to personally “thank” him at the end of our cruise.
  18. List price vs list price or your discounted price vs list price?
  19. Also on the first day, they will try and accommodate those who have not had the opportunity to reserve yet. They will ask you to come back the next day if you are trying to book an additional reservation.
  20. Remember the 2x past discount won’t show up until the final checkout, that will be $800.
  21. If it’s Barcelona to San Juan, SUM23 works for the Nov 3 cruise. Double past guest discount as well as reduced fare and free air. Also works on Barcelona to FTL.
  22. This has been discussed many times on this board. There appears to be a total disconnect with the MVJ system and what is actually available on the ship. During COVID restrictions, tables were left open and not available to allow for proper spacing. IMO the easiest way to program all of this was to simply cut the available tables in MVJ by 50%. When onboard you’ll find plenty of tables available to reserve. The crew onboard has acknowledged this disconnection with the MVJ system. They are two separate systems and appear to be poorly integrated. We actually had a reservation for one of our cruises and when we arrived that had no reservation in the ship’s system. It wasn’t a problem as there were plenty of tables available. BTW if you contact Viking and tell them you wanted a table for your birthday and were unable to get it, you may be happily surprised. We were in a similar situation with our anniversary and when we boarded we found cake, sparkling wine, and a card in our room.
  23. The canal has been closed for a couple of years due to landslides. It just reopened a month ago. Not sure if anyone’s offering sailing tours of it.
  24. Looks like it has been extended. Still good for select sailing at the end of 2023. I tried it for Expedition and Ocean. Both Chilean Fjords Expedition (October) and Australia Ocean (December) accept it.
  25. We also went to Bletchley Park on our last trip. Very easy to to get to. Train station is a block away. Great day trip. Amazing exhibition. They give a free guided tour a few times a day. Don’t miss that.
