  1. So I guess to moral of this thread is don’t book a cruise on a ship with a septic tank?
  2. Just an observation but it appears to me that a lot of the GTYs are on a leg of a back to back cruise or a leg of the WC. Viking is probably holding slots open for the entire BTB and as departure date approaches, they start assigning cabins. This might well entail an upgrade in some circumstances, but a guaranteed cabin means you will get something.
  3. Promo SUM23 extended until September 30th: SPECIAL OFFER Up to FREE Airfare & Special Fares DOUBLE Past Guest Discount Offer Code SUM23 Book by September 30
  4. If you get to the point that you need to watch TV, Viking has an extensive movie collection on their in cabin entertainment system. There are typically activities scheduled on sea days.
  5. Egypt 2026 is now open NEW DEPARTURES Pharaohs & Pyramids 12 DAYS | Cairo to Cairo $25 Deposit & Reduced Airfare Plus, Special Fares ASK FOR OFFER: EBD On 2026 Departures VIEW ITINERARY PRICE & BUILD
  6. For a variety of port calls you really can’t top Trade Routes of the Middle Ages. 15 days, 10 tours, 7 countries. https://www.vikingcruises.com/oceans/cruise-destinations/multi-region/trade-routes-middle-ages/index.html
  7. Viking Southern Atlantic Crossing https://www.vikingcruises.com/oceans/cruise-destinations/multi-region/southern-atlantic-crossing/index.html
  8. Have you attended any lectures? I'm curious about the quality of the presentations.
  9. Weird regulations usually have an origin story. I wonder what incident prompted this one? Did someone build a booze cruise ship with bars everywhere? Is this a remnant of Prohibition when Americans would go to Canada to drink?
  10. Never say never, but I'm not aware of any included excursion being totally booked. You may not get your preferred time, but there will be a tour slot available. COVID caused a shortage of guides in some places but most of that is back to normal. If an included tour fills up, Viking will attempt to add additional resources to accommodate everyone. Remember that you must reserve your included tours so Viking can gauge the interest and assign busses and tour guides. As far as optional tours and improving chances, this has been covered extensively in other threads, but here is a summary: Make a plan and prioritize what you want to book and book your #1 priority first, select the included tours last. Privileged access tours tend to fill up fast because space is usually limited to a single group. Other popular tours may also be confined to a single group because of restrictions by the venue. The Alhambra is such an excursion, one bus per cruise line. Log into MVJ as soon as your time slot opens. You cannot use multiple computers, updating will be locked based on a single connection per booking number. Book and checkout one excursion at a time. You are not guaranteed a booking until checkout so having items in your cart does not reserve anything. Using a bank ACH number is the quickest way to checkout and save time. Enter this information at least a day before your time slot opens. The credit card info you save in MVJ is for use when on the ship only. For MVJ excursions, you will be prompted to enter your info again at checkout, so ACH saves valuable time. ACH requires a simple click and selection of the passenger name from a dropdown list. It also saves you 3.3% of the cost. If a tour sells out, check MVJ daily. Sometimes there are cancellations and sometimes Viking is able to add additional resources and offer additional tours at a later time. Also check when onboard because situations can change, again cancellations or additional resources may occur. I just reserved all my tours yesterday for my upcoming cruise and I got everything I wanted. I checked back 15 minutes later and some time slots were already filled or sold out. Good luck.
  11. Went to Benchley on our last independent London trip last May. It was a great experience.

  13. I also think this is a programming issue. Could also be that it doesn’t like flights that arrive after the first boarding time so it rejects them.
  14. “Powered by Cruise Critic” could mean they are just using the website for content. Seems like a low quality startup operation.
  15. MVJ now says it cannot accept Mastercard or Discover Card. Not sure why. I believe this is new. Maybe their website doesn’t support it or maybe they are charging more for their service? It also could be they cannot save security info or lack thereof for those cards so you need to use them in person.

  17. Wrong forum. Try the roll calls for Viking Jupiter. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/835-viking-jupiter-roll-calls/
  18. Post cruise we are staying at the Hilton Buenos Aires. I assume it will be the same for a pre-cruise. I can’t see them having contracts with multiple hotels in this location.

  20. This is not specific to Viking. All cruise lines are dealing with the same issues. If you want to see Venice, regardless of cruise line, you should plan to stay in Venice either before or after your cruise.
  21. Your booking date for excursions is based on your cabin class. MVJ will have the date and time excursions open for your booking at the top of the Excursions page. The actual excursions will be available to preview at about 110 days out, From the Viking website: Owner’s Suite—107 days from sail date Explorer Suites—97 days from sail date Penthouse Junior Suites—87 days from sail date Penthouse Veranda Staterooms—77 days from sail date Deluxe Veranda Staterooms—67 days from sail date Veranda Staterooms—60 days from sail date BTW These are for Viking Ocean, Expedition ships differ.
