  1. We were on the 10/7 -10/14 Boston to Bermuda sailing. I am so grateful to hear that the Island has been spared what could have been a catastrophic Hurricane! as for NCl being communicative? although I do appreciate that the Captain up until TUESDAY morning -literally- we were told that the schedule for Tuesdays departure was unchanged. Boom 8:00 am Tuesday off we went instead of the normal 5 pm. The funniest thing was all day Monday ALL of the Dockyard locals said were would be leaving earlier LOL, including some very nice gentleman at the bar of the Boneyard as we sat there watching the weather reports. I guess that is why instead of the normal 1pm arrival we got in at 8 am !!

One thing to please keep in mind, many of the Dockyard folks ie: cab drivers, tour operators, mini bus drivers, restaurant owners and workers ( the list goes on ) REALLY rely on the Ships coming to the Island, The Breakaway and the other 2 ships that didnt come this past Wednesday and even the Dawns early departure on Tuesday really impact the locals incomes for the "Travel" season in Bermuda.

    Gotta keep the perspective :)

    • Weather Update - Hurricane Matthew

Hurricane Matthew Update - Oct 2 at 7pm‎:
Norwegian Cruise Line is closely monitoring the path of Hurricane Matthew in the Caribbean.
‎To ensure a safe and enjoyable cruise for all guests, Norwegian Sky's itinerary for the voyage departing tomorrow, October 3, has been revised to now call on Key West on October 4 and Cozumel on October 5.
Any further changes to the ship's itinerary will be announced onboard, as we continue to track the storm's progress.
We ask our guests to continue to monitor NCL.com for any further storm updates.
      :o

  2. Luckily food is a VERY subjective thing to each persons tastes , as is each persons right to the opinion of the food. but in my opinion I dont believe the food is any better or worse on NCl as compared to DCL and i dont think sliding the maitre d anything will make any difference.

"Special Medical Dietary Requirements and Diabetes

Guests with food allergies should contact the Access Desk to discuss Norwegian Cruise Line's policies and procedures concerning special diets and your specific allergies prior to your cruise. Because the vessels are supplied all over the world, it may be easier to meet your specific food allergy requirements in some countries, but very difficult in others. We can arrange to have no sugar and low sodium meals for guests with those specific medical dietary restrictions upon request. Refrigerators are available in many staterooms for storing insulin

  3. It is important that you tell your room Steward to not remove the card, It isnt a big deal for them to remove it when they leave the rooms. I have also put a few magnetic dots on the back so when I dont need it, I just put it on the wall (most of the ships wall are magnetic except in the Haven ) this includes the doors

when I say they remove the card they just pull it up so it turns off the lights (I guess you can do the same thing without the magnetic dots LOL )

  4. Thanks for the comments.

Are you kidding me?? A train brings out the meal? Why am I just now hearing about this? I'm looking this up for sure. No one on here has mentioned this before. Thanks!

OMG we went as children to a place in Forest Hills NY that did that too! I believe if I remember it was called Hamburger Express and it closed eons ago but wow what memories this has brought up! Now I REALLY am going to PR

  6. Can't help you with your question but do have a helpful hint when it comes to getting your photos. If you are on a ship that still prints them out (have heard some ships now display them on monitors) collect your photos every or every other day and ask the photo desk to hold them. At the end of the cruise all your photos are in one place so you can go through and decide which ones you want to keep. It beats trying to look through 6 to 7 days worth of ship wide photos to find the ones that you are in.

It has been our experience that all of the photos are in a book with specific pocket spot for viewing I kniow that was the way it was on the breakaway and the dawn and the photo spot or pocket was on our card. If you are on the away class ships (dont know about any of the others) They do have monitors also that you can view them on . My advice is to NOT go the last night to get the pics - even on the last day it was better than the night! They DO continue to get pictures up until disembarkation but we wanted to be done and all packed - We got our package the day before disembarkation ao we were ready to just enjoy the last night and not fight with the crowds! The standard photos depend on which it is.. the resturant one were 5x7 - Photos that are around the ship at various locations were 8x10 - We were on the Breakaway and the kids did the ropes course there is a camera on the plank and those were also 8x10 - We also got a usb stick that had ALL of the chosen photos on it, that was $20.00 and is an add on to the package (cant purchase seperately) Those can be brought to Wal Mart or what ever photo place you want and yo can get reprints of any size you want . The stick does come with the reprint release so its all legal

  7. Exactly, Del Rio is a reported micromanager and even personally picks out the art work that will be displayed onboard the ships. I've said it before and I'll say it again- Stuart might be conducting the band but he's following a score written by Del Rio.

OMG was just on the Breakaway and 90% of the art work is TERRIBLE LOL I cant believe anyone woukd buy it

  8. CC,

We are planning our January NCL cruise out of NYC cruise terminal. Since we will most likely drive, does anyone know of a good hotel/motel that offers reasonable parking charges? We'll be gone for 2 weeks.

I remember reading on here a while back of a place in NJ.

Advice for getting from the hotel to the terminal??

Hilton Garden Inn in Ridgefield Park NJ . very easy transport to the port. It is included in the room rate /Package

    Hilton Garden Inn Ridgefield Park

70 Challenger Road, Ridgefield Park, NJ 7660

  9. Hey Kim,

So I might be a little hooked on reading your reviews, so have been going back and reading your past cruise reviews. The NCL ship pins. Do they still have these? I didn't know about them being that the Escape in January was our first cruise and so obviously didn't get any. Since I just started with latitudes with that cruise would I be able to get pins yet? Is there something I can do to have them mailed to me? Any info you have would be appreciated!!

    Thank you,

    Heather

they do - although everytime I have cruised I forget to get one! I think you have to go to the Cruise next desk?

  10. Yea we have tried the yawning, gum, holding the nose and blowing, airplane ear plugs with the sound deadening head phones over top of that. Nothing works. :(

I know this sounds REALLY Really stupid but when we were young and flew my Mom always had us "drinking' on take off = it was easy when we could be having a bottle but maybe the cups with the straws may simulate the same swallowing action. Its a bit like the yawning but it is a more constant action.. not sure if may work but since i started following you I have been meaning to ask this! This is of course if the MD doesnt find anything wrong

  11. Quick question. does Sakari swim on a team? I know with everything you do and now scuba (which is awesome by the way!) now that I see the flippers out of the tail..I think this is the first I have seen her without the tail, I bet she would be a fabulous butterfly swimmer. Even more so how she is able to hold her breath - that truly is a gift and learning to kick with your feet together isnt a normal act for most people - thats why the butterfly stroke is one of , if not the hardest to do, its a timing thing, and if you ever watch any of the olympic swimmers doing it the really good ones are not breathing every stroke so holding breath is an important thing too. Just wondering

  12. You do not have to be with them to have them buy a beer ( Ciders are also in that category) many of the Caribbean islands. Mexico , Bermuda all have 18 yo drinking ages. and yes we have allowed our 18 and now 19 yo to drink on the ship ( with our consent of course with the form signed) I think if you have a responsible adult and yes I consider my 18 yo an adult (if he has to sign up for selective service , then yes he is an adult IMHO) then ok he may have a few to many Ciders cause but apart from partying with the Second City crew at Calico Jacks in Bermuda, a bit to much, he never repeated it because he didnt feel very good the next day LOL lets just say the hair of the dog bit him and he didnt repeat it - and when he is home? He is on the Fire Department so they cant drink in case they have a call!! I wish all kids could be as trustful, but if the parent has signed the form then so be it. and also at least on the Dawn and the Breakaway they did 9 Bar tenders and Security) check IDs for everyone that was out partying at night. I know this because I was told this from my kids

  13. We booked a cruise to Bermuda on the Breakaway very last minute, and I am in the process of making dinner reservations! I cannot seem to find much information whatsoever about dinner in the complimentary Taste, Savor, or Manhattan room. We will be eating here most nights if not all of them, most of the specialty restaurants do not have reservations left before 9pm. We are ok with this however.

It seems as though most people sailing Norwegian do not discuss or review the MDR dinners, only the specialty restaurants. Are the current menu's posted somewhere? Do all 3 restaurants serve the same menu? (Norwegians website would like you to think there are different menus for some reason when describing the restaurants.) Has anyone ever tried ordering the cheese plate on the dessert menu as an appetizer? (One of my fav things to do while cruising:). How would one compare the MDR food to Royal Caribbean or Carnival? Thanks for your opinions!

When you get on board go to Guest services (I think its on 6 in the atrium. if not its on 7) The reservation systems hold back alot of time slots for people to book on board for all of the restaurants - even the MDR unless you want to wing it and you are a small party. But unless you like to eat early like 5pm -6 pm then most of the time you want reservations , the Noodle Bar is no res, but gets really busy as the noight goes on and has limited seating. O'Sheehans you can go any time and that is a great place to have a late night snack. The Raw Bar and Sushi bar dont take reservations either but those are more for small meals - or appetizers.

  14. wondering why someone would "miss" something that is mandatory and takes maybe 15 minutes out of 167 hrs? unless there is a REALLY good reason to miss it like you miss the ship or have significant problems like someone that needs accommodations for handicap reasons this is a mandatory drill that may save a life , kinda like the announcement on a flight that so many ignore till there is a problem. IMHO I do believe it is made up the next day and hopefully it wont be needed the night before!!
