  1. We always use a debit card for our cruises - I dont, and dont ever want a charge card - It depends on the bank you use as to how long the hold is. it may be different because we are using a brokerage account card - but our hold comes off immediately once the charge goes through

Bottom line, ask the bank how quickly your bank has.

  2. But people that book and "guarantee" cabins on NCL are not eligible for the promo's, so they are stuck paying $79.00 a day for drink package. Way out of line! Actually, I feel it would be better to just buy drinks out of pocket at that price. Also, RCL lets only one person in the cabin purchase the package, not making both buy it.

Agree - there is NO WAY my son (nor would I let him) drink enough to justify the price but it is what it is he turns 21 a few days before our sailing and husband and I both have the UBP -

  3. Similarly on the BA, ship's photographer will ask for cabin #'s when taking the photo, and if all of them are designated to one stateroom for all parties - it should be grouped in that folder/binder - then, toward the end of the cruise (don't wait till the last day as it will madness with the crowd in the photo center) sort out the ones wanted & get it paid for, the extra charge for the USB stick was $20, I believe (maybe it was just $10, memories not as good as in younger days) with the release - then, make copies after getting home & distribute/share & split/share the total cost (since OP said being on a budget)

The photo package on the BA last month was 10 for $129, 20 for $199 and there's supposed to be one at 30 for $249 (but, don't recall seeing it being promoted/listed onboard at our sailing) Further tiered discounts (Latitude members) are not supposed to be given, but we did get ours in 2014 as we took 10 but only purchased 3 this year so got 25% for being Platinum.

Does anyone know if it still works this way now? We are all in 1 room (family) but if I am the one buying the package it goes by room number correct?

  4. Haven passengers are not charged service charge on the promo package. When you purchase it for retail price, you pay everything just like everyone else.

Thank you Demonyte :) I was fairly sure that was correct but, since I was surprised that as a Haven passenger I didnt pay, I was just as surprised when I did :) I wish there was someplace that all of these stoopid questions there are were someplace - I had looked in the FAQs on NCL and did see anything about it

  5. Quick question/// We have added our sons to our suite H9- Oldest will be 21 at sailing.. so he has the UBP BUT when I was reviewing my details I realize they have charged the price plus the 18% > I understood that haven passengers dont get charged the grat or is that only for 1 -2 passengers? -

  6. For the OS, DOS, and GV, the only things that are included would be bottles of water and soda.

Wasnt sure if ETOH was in that category also , but dont those 3 category's also get 3 bottle s of ETOH if they want? might be thinking of something else (not unusual here ) thank you for clearing that up :)

  7. The way DCL does this is wonderful! I believe that this may be a really good conversation to have with NCL some how, perhaps there is already this option for Haven pax already and it just isnt used as often especially in the summer or vaca times I know if my boys were younger I would have "someone" ie concierge escort my kids to kids clubs. Thankfully my youngest is 15 and he was very responsible on DCL to check himself in and out- its great when they get old enough to do this! but one caveat was he HAD to check in with either dad or myself if he wasnt in the club. OP - how old are your kids? maybe I have missed that in this thread.

  8. Thanks ,don't want any nasty surprises at the end .

Yes the minifridge is stocked with some water, soda and I believe some alcohol - airplane size bottles Most people ask their room steward to empty it out upon arrival because those things are an extra cost unless you are in the Owners, Garden (and 1 more) suites.

  9. You and I may know this (about relative pricing), but not everyone does, or would think this way.

I can easily imagine someone reading about suites, seeing mini-suite at a lower price, and shouting something like, "Honey, look what I just found for us!!! It's smaller, but it's still a suite, and guess what we get with that!!!???"

As for TA's. many of us have probably run through at least one not-so-good TA...

It's just that NOT using the word "suite" when the cabin isn't a suite... would be so easy, and truly not ambiguous.

That actually happened the first time I booked a cruise and I didnt know about CC and didnt have a TA. But I quickly learned my lesson!

  10. Wow.

We just double checked, due to your posting.

And... same thing. NOT 100% completed anymore. Only "80%" - despite our previous printing out of docs including the 100% complete displayed part.

And NO hint ANYWHERE that we now had "something else to do".

VERY BAD WAY FOR NCL TO HANDLE THIS.

Best part (er. worst part) is that I chose a time, and... was forced to choose a different time for DH.

    Cute.

You better believe we'll be arriving together, and not at his later time!

We'll probably take the earlier printout of our docs showing ALL (100%) complete and show up when we planned to anyway.

After all, NCL never indicated in the slightest way that our '100% complete... wasn't, and that we needed to "check in *again*.

NCL needs to stop changing the rules after the fact.

Gotta love it that they gave no notice to passengers already 100% checked in that... they weren't...

Just got off the phone with NCL website tech support (Roger) and he said that it is something with the website , its not recognizing or differentiating between a non-suite or suite passenger - IF you are in a Haven or Suite just pick anytime and you can come to the port as usual because there are different boarding regulations sailing in those cabins.

  11. It comes up after entering your passport/emergency contact info. I'm pretty sure it was the last part of online check-in.

We sailed in the Haven last month on the Gem and did not have to select anything.

We are in a suite on the Dawn, but obviously the Dawn doesn't have a Haven. I was wondering if this made a difference in having to select an arrival time at online check in.

I noticed the same thing, We are in a Haven suite and I had checked in my husband and myself about 2 weeks ago and did NOT have to select a PAT but I added my kids last night to our reservation and checked them in and it DID ask me to choose a PAT - We are leaving from NYC but I suspect its either something that is being enforced for everyone regardless of cabin or it is a website isue.

  12. My wife and me, my son, daughter in law and grandson will be sailing on the Breakaway in August, my wife and me will be in the Haven Aft Penthouse. My son, daughter in law and grandson will be in a mini suite. My question is, if we all wanted to have dinner on our balcony, can we. Or will the butler tell us no cause they aren't in a haven room.

Tysonboxer when are you going? We are also going in August on the 21st. From what I understand is that you can have non-haven guests to the resturant 2 times for a $25 fee (not sure it is per person or total) I am guessing that it may be the same? But would be interested in what the concierge desk says

  13. I'll give you one recommendation, and pleas please please just google it and check it out. Omni Parker House. Coolest dam hotel I have ever stayed at. Old fashioned, cool bars, and great restaurant. It's even supposed to be haunted! We stayed 3 nights before our cruise. I can't wait to get back there!

Stayed at the Omni a few years back for a convention - Great hotel and home to the Original Parker House Rolls - in the downtown area and walking distance to the park , lots of bus options, and also on the freedom Trail

  14. Has anyone done the Behind the Scenes your on the Breakaway? Is it worth doing? Do they let you tour the bridge?

  15. Can anyone tell me what the deal is with the Sea Glass and where to go? I am seeing mixed reviews online. We would like to go to a beach that you are allowed to keep some of the glass. Is Building Bay Beach in St. George the place to go?

As far as I know you cannot keep any sea glass , there was a HUGE fuss up when it was revealed that there was an american taking alot of sea glass and bringing back to the states - the best place to ask about this is the Bermuda Forum here on CC

  16. No, and you need to call post cruise guest relations @ 1-866-625-1164 and tell them everything you just posted here.

I agree with everyone saying no.. I am bothered by the no smoke thing ! Obviously your hisband is on oxygen . that could have ended up very bad for him!
