  1. You say no seafood but then mention he eats small shrimp. Lol.

A previous poster mentioned about the lactose intolerance and that they will make special arrangements for that. However they are not going to make special arrangements just because someone doesn’t like something.

  2. The ferries will be on Winter schedule, so the last ferry leaves the dockyard at 5 :15 to Hamilton. I'm not sure if that would be enough time to get there from the ship. And on a related note, the orange line from the dockyard to St. George's doesn't even run in the winter. So if I find anything of interest that is open after hours, I'll have to use the bus.

  3. Colossal Blunder? Surely this is a joke post. Why waste your time and the time of the rest of the cruise critic community as well as the tiny amount of bandwidth for all of these posts?

  4. You don’t get a bottle of sparking wine for being platinum. Everyone on their second or later cruise gets one, and therefore it isn’t changeable (as so many people get it).

You may have more luck with anything you get for being in a suite.

Is this true? I’ve never received a bottle of anything.

  5. I really wish people would take the time to find out the themes/story lines of the performances before they book them. Far too many people walk out during the shows because they didn’t know what the show is about. This is disrespectful to the performers and audience. In the elevator after a “Brat Pack” performance on the Escape, a gentleman let everyone know that he was disappointed because he was expecting a “Rat Pack” performance. I’ve seen hordes of people walk out during After Midnight, Priscilla, and Rock of Ages because they had no idea of the show’s content. I even saw people walk out during the Beatles show on the Epic. What were they expecting, an entomology seminar?

Why wouldn’t you not walk out if it sucks? You could do all the research in the world and have even seen the show before but if the performers are bad....I’m not wasting my vacation time!

  6. Yea, no. What company do you know pays their employees sub-par wages and expects the customer to make up the difference? Non, other than restaurants and apparently cruise ships. I get what you are saying about who actually is paying for employee's wages; that is business 101. That being said, what other company pays employees pennies on the dollar and expects the rest to be paid in a surcharge to the customer?

Well you obviously already mentioned restaurants. That would include bars/bartenders. There are plenty of others that rely on tips. Hair salons, nail salons, Maid services, Butlers etc. and like I already mentioned, you are gonna pay the same no matter if the company included it in the fare or has a separate line item for it.

  7. This is not true, but even if it is, it's not my job to pay the crew a living wage. That's NCL's job. My job is to tip the folks that have made my trip memorable 100% TO THEM.

Of course it’s your job. You think NCL is just gonna pay them out of their pocket? Whether or not it comes from and increased fare or it comes from the DSC, we as passengers are absolutely paying their wage. That’s how business works.

  8. NCL makes it very difficult to like them. They are the kings of extra fees and subtle price increases (drinks, speciality restaurants, etc). Enough is enough. If I thought for one minute the crew was receiving the extra gratuity I wouldn't mind, but more than one told me with the last increase they saw not an extra dime. This is basically a way for NCL to instantly increase their profitability. I hope it eventually gets to a point that people have had enough and book away. That is the only thing that will prevent it from continuing to happen.

Difficult for you maybe. Not for me and the millions of other passengers that keep booking.

  9. I think he meant that only 1-2% is actually distributed to the staff.

It’s actually almost all distributed to the staff but whether or not it just pays their regular wage or is a gratuity on top of their wage is what most people are concerned with. Me... I’m not concerned with it. I just consider it part of my fare and done with it. Whatever NCL does with it respect to the crew is between them. Because we all know if they did away with the DSC they would just increase the fare. No one would be saving any money. In fact some would be paying more.

  10. Good thing we don't get raises where I work... Actually, the first contract I was given had a 2000 GBP higher salary listed than what I actually got paid when I started. So if I were to get a 5$ raise I would be highly impressed. Because that would mean that they were actually giving employees some kind of raise.

Most people get a nominal yearly increase (at least here in the US). And the people that don’t are usually job hopping so they can get an increase. This year I received a 4% raise. Sounds about right in line with this increase. Take a look at health care costs rising every year here in the US. My premiums went up $120/month this past year. That was WAY more than 4%.

  11. I think it says as long as you pay before you sail.

Still inflation on a NCL cruise is higher than anything else. and it seems like quality has gone down in the last couple years at a steady pace (Mainly food and service).

I still love cruising NCL but man it feels like they are sticking it to us.

Prices go up for all kinds of things. Not just cruises and their respective service charges. It’s simple economics. Doesn’t mean “they are sticking it to is”. They will continue to increase prices until they see a decline in bookings.

  12. We were on the Feb 24th sailing. I would give the ship a 9. The only bad part was the rough sea. The cruise line can not control the weather, but it can control how it handles communicating with the passengers . I don't think the Captain kept us up to date on the storms. We had a letter that said tune into channel 22 for update, Nothing was ever put on the channel.

What’s there to be kept up to date on?

  13. Has anyone been successful booking entertainment? My 90 day mark was yesterday. Up until yesterday it said “Too early to book” please come back on 3/18. Now it just says “Not available to book. Please check back later or once onboard”.

  14. You need to have an account to pay for your drinks.

    NCL:

A cash deposit may be placed on your account in the following amounts:

    •
    • 7 day cruises - $300/person

    • Less than 7 days - $150/person

    • More than 7 days - $450/person

Once you have exceeded the deposited amount, your account will be closed to further charges. You can deposit as much money as often as you'd like throughout the cruise, however, refunds cannot be made until the day of disembarkation for any excess. US Traveler's Checks can be cashed onboard and are the same as cash.

While the website does say $300/person, when I was on the breakaway the let me put whatever I wanted. Way less than $300/person started with just $200 total.

  15. 2 questions after reading this thread. On the Dawn is Osheehans open 24/7? Also for the UBP are sodas and water included? It is my first time traveling with NCL.

  16. You don't want to seem to let this go so I will explain further. Ninety-nine percent of the time I will wait to book until after final payment so I will get the best deal there is. The rest of you who want to book earlier and feel you need to, go right ahead.

What is there to let go? I was merely pointing out that the OP was talking about not cruising until January 2019 and was asking whether they should buy now or wait and see if the prices go down. Of which many people indicated that it doesn’t matter if they buy now because if the price does go down they can just cancel/rebook if before final payment.

It is fine if you like to wait until after final payment to make a booking but that’s not the norm nor does it always mean a cheaper cruise. Many times it is more expensive especially on peak times/high demand itineraries or new ships. Mostly, booking last minute is reserved for people who are flexible enough with their schedule and also flexible with the itinerary. For most of us we need to schedule vacation far in advance, plan for airfare and hotels (of which can very well be more expensive the closer one gets to travel), as well as we get a better pick of the cabins etc.

In the end it’s all about making sure the OP understands all of their options. And I think they now do.
