  1. Cash money. US Dollars only. Taking a cash advance on your onboard account or currency conversions are really expensive on the ship.

It’s only 3%. That’s actually VERY reasonable compared to a land based casino cash advance. That being said, ATM is cheaper if you are taking out more than $200.

  2. Has everyone calmed down yet?.

Has OP been able to make show reservztions yet?

When I did the Escape on Nov I was unable to reserve some of the shows on line.

But once on ship the box office or screens around ship allowed me.

Also usually there are about 50 seats approximately empty and scattered around.

One thing I noticed us about 10 mins into show, folks left and seats got gobbled up by folks standing

That’s a negative because the Bliss has not opened reservations for shows yet.

  3. If you do not NEED reservations then why do they have them? If anyone can show up and see the show or eat in the restaurants then reservations would not exist, there would be no point to having them in the first place. It is an illusion and frankly false advertising.

Offering reservations and needing reservations are two different things. If you do not know the difference I’m not sure what to tell you.

  4. I would cancel and book with Princess. You never have to make a reservation for the shows, just show up and sit down. Specialty restaurants always seem to have some openings the day you want to book. You can make a reservation one day at a time if you have anytime dinning, or just show up (sometimes a short wait). I prefer that type of cruise where I am Free to choose the Style I want for that day, rather than being locked into a regimented time schedule like you are forced to do on NCL.

I have to chuckle at this post. I mean you do realize NCL is the original Freestyle. No need to make any reservations, no set dining times, etc. it’s just that they do offer reservations on the bigger ships for those who do like to plan. But it’s certainly not necessary.

  5. I would like to say that I just received a letter in the mail from NCL about my upcoming Bliss cruise and it mentioned nothing about being able to book entertainment. It said to go online to browse the entertainment. I do not know what the OPs email said as I never received such email but at least The letter I received did not have any incorrect information.

  6. Here's your challenge. You are depending on the on-line booking system. Everyone else on your cruise picked up their phones on April 1st and have now taken all of the prime show and dining times. Booking is open, just not the way you want to do it. Adapt and get your reservations made. This is exactly what happened to us on an upcoming cruise. Had to pick up a phone (gasp) to make reservations.

I think you are incorrect because what I hear is that one still cannot make show reservations for the Bliss (even over the phone). And even if that were true, it’s 2018, I shouldn’t have to call to make a reservation. If a company can’t get a simple online reservation system working while they could make reservations over the phone, that tells me something about the company.

  7. You people are something else. I have been on 40 cruises. I eat dinner in the main dining room. I get cold or at least not hot food nearly every meal as does my husband. I don't know why there are so many nasty people on cruisecritic.

I can’t speak for others but I was just disagreeing with you saying that I have never experienced anything cold on any of my cruises. Nothing nasty here just providing my opinion. Not sure how or why your experience could vary so differently from mine?

  8. Can you use the certificate for a future cruise already booked? My travel agent said no. I have heard some people said yes.

While official rules may say No, it has certainly been done by many of us here including me. I have even used one after being oasis in full and received a $250 refund. Especially if you are before final payment, if they tell you you can’t use it, you could always cancel/rebook.

  9. For anyone wondering, the UPD on the Gem limits you to one app, one salad, one Entree, two sides and one dessert in Cagneys and only one app OR salad, one entree and one dessert in Le Bistro - according to our waiters this week.

So to be clear. Your subject says UDP and you body references UPD. I am going to assume you are talking about the SDP? It shouldn’t be limited to one app and the rules shouldn’t be different between venues. Like some other poster said, maybe they were telling you the rules of the platinum dinner. Either way, just order what you want. That being said, who really needs more than one app, one salad, one entree, two sides and a dessert anyway?

  10. U get OBC on the ship your buying them on or for the ship you use CRUISE NEXT ON?

my scenario. Going on escape yo Bermuda in june.

I want to buy some for my 14 day escape in January.

I but a 250$ certificate... and they apply 125$ obc to my June folio. Yet I can use the full 250$ towards my Jan balance??

Don’t even think of it as onboard credit. Think of it as half price. For example on your Bermuda cruise you can buy 2 certificates worth $500 for $250.

  11. The $50.00 reduced deposit promotion seems almost ongoing. You have to wonder if Cruise Next sales are trending downward due to this ? Shoot I recently booked 3 cruises when the $1.00 deposit came out.

I don’t think the reduced deposit is the main reason people but the certificates. They buy them cause they save half price. For example I bought two certificates worth $500 but was only charged $250.

  12. FTR, I agree that if you drink enough alcohol you will pay less with the “free” UBP.

I’m arguing it is extremely disingenuous for NCL to call it “free” then tack on a service charge that covers the company’s cost for the advertised as “free” perk.

Just call it what it is: discounted UBP.

The flaw in your logic is that even if the UBP wasn’t offered as a perk and you decided to buy it, you will still also pay the same service charge. Hence yes the package is free but the service charge is not.

  13. Looking for recommendations for a pre cruise hotel in janurary. I'm gonna be on the bliss. Very excited about that. I checked the holiday Inn by the port but it's sold out. Any suggestions much appreciated.

    Badgeaz

    1) you didn’t specify which port

    2) might have better luck posting in the ports of call and/or the roll call sub forums.

  14. Just for my own peace of mind and basic curiosity… I did a mock booking for our up-coming cruise in November 2018 on the 11 night NCL Gem out of NY. My findings are the following:

Booking a Balcony Cabin using the BX category (Sail-Away that includes: No free at sea, No free taxes and No OBC): The total for 2 guests today is: $2770.32

    And

Booking a Balcony Cabin using the category BD/BC (both are listed at $1479.00 and include: 2 choices of the 5 Free at Sea (I selected the Specialty Dining and Unlimited Beverage), Free taxes and $100.00 OBC): The total for 2 guests today is: $3383.20.

Taking the total from each, I am left with a difference of $612.88. I would deduct the OBC of $100.00 giving a total of $512.88. Dividing this total by 11 (# of nights) would give me a total of $46.63 per night. I would then divide this total by 2 (# of people) leaving me with a total of: $23.31.

I’m positive we made the right decision for us by choosing the SDP and the UBP; we are gaining 4 specialty restaurants and unlimited beverages (soda and alcohol) for 11 nights. I don’t feel that is a bad deal!

I do however feel that the UBP should include bottled water and specialty coffees.

Sorry if my math bored anyone… I just felt the need to add my 2cents!

You have to also realize that the BX is a GTY. That’s the main reason it is cheaper. Not because it doesn’t come with any promos. I would never book at GTY because I want to be able to choose my cabin location. So no need for me to even compare the prices.

  15. Yeah but how do they know I’m having so many drinks that my tip needs to be $249, for example if My wife and I have 3 drinks a day each at $14 a drink I should tip 18% or 20% which is $2.80 approx. per drink per person per day that’s $117.60 in tips for the both of us for the 7 day cruise not $249.

Where I get aggravated is that they are basing the amount of tips to be charged based on how much they think I may spend in drinks not actual cost.

What if a restaurant charged you a $25 tip for your waiter the moment you walk in the door regardless of how much your actual meal was? Then if you have a $1,000 meal you really stuck it to your waiter and short changed them but If all you had was a sandwich you way over tipped them...just saying

The service charge is based on the price of the package. If there was no free at sea, and someone were to pay full price for the package, they would pay the exact amount in service charge as you are paying on the free package.

If it’s not worth it to you then by all means choose a different perk. For me and MANY others, this perk is worth its weight in gold! No $1000+ bar tab at the end of the cruise!!!
