  1. This booking shows ahead is new to me...also new to NCL. What if you do not book ahead...are you out of luck?

No. You will not be out of luck as they only allow a small percentage for booking pre cruise.

  2. Cruise next certificates are a good deal but NCL sure does a slimy job of using deceptive language to sell them. NCL really loves deceptive language.

I’ve use the cruise next certificates since 2012 and have never thought the language was deceptive. Understood it perfectly ever since my first purchase.

  3. What is it you are looking for when referring to Brunch? When we make plans to go to brunch it is basically the time of the meal with the addition of some type of alcoholic beverage like mimosas or bloody marys. Think like anywhere between 10:00-2:00. You can certainly go a multitude of places on the ship where you can create your own brunch. For me that would be Osheehans or on the breakaway, the Local. Of which I think is open all day.

  4. I would consider it compensation as you are getting something you didn’t pay for. Regardless of a price drop, you did not pay for a balcony and they are under no obligation to upgrade you after final payment.

Speaking of the word silly, I find it silly every time this topic comes up. Prices drop all the time for many things that one would never even contemplate trying to get a refund or some other type of compensation. Airlines are a very good example of that. Prices can fluctuate all the time and when the price goes down for a flight you already paid for do you expect to be able to get a refund or upgrade? Why do people think that same concept doesn’t apply for a cruise. Same goes for hotels etc.

  5. First of all, I believe the one time charge for activating iConcierge is $9.99.

It's interesting to hear that some have reported being able to call off the ship to a land line using iConcierge. My initial answer would have been no, that the iConcierge app cannot be used for calling off the ship (to your home or any other land based number).

I say this because while the iConcierge app does do wifi calling (you can place a call to the ships's cabin phone of any of your contacts in iConcierge), the app does not require internet access to function. Wifi access alone would not provide a connection from off the ship to a land based phone.

It's my feeling that those who were able to do this may have also had internet access enabled on their phone at the time, and that the wifi calling feature of iConcierge made use of the internet as a connection to the shore based phone number. If it does work, I suspect it's an "unintentional feature" of the app.

If that's the case, to have this work, you would have to pay the activation free for iConcierge, and also purchase (or have as a perk) a package of internet minutes. Your phone would need to be signed onto the internet at the time you tried to make your call. It's worth noting that many phones now offer "wifi calling" as a standard feature, which means that with the wifi on, and the phone connected to the internet, you would not need the iConcierge app to make a wifi call in any case.

You are incorrect. Using iConcierge to make a phone call does not require purchase of internet plan. There is a feature built into iConcierge that allows for phone calls at $.79/minute.

  6. And 2 bags are cheaper than one overweight bag, when flying ;)

I fly southwest so I never pay for bags [emoji12] and I didn’t know we were talking about cost.

  7. If you are flying then you will be limited by whatever the airline rules are as they will be stricter than the cruise line. That being said, use your best judgement. I mean there are people who will have to pick up and move your luggage and they appreciate it not being crazy overweight. I personally would break it up into 2 bags.

  8. Are any of the mini suites on the Bliss Obstructed? Is there a way to tell from the deck plans? I am contemplating placing a bid to go from balcony to mini suite but would not chance it if there is a chance that I could end up in an Obstructed view.

What’s the point of a balcony if it is Obstructed anyway? The whole point of a balcony to me is to be able to see the sights.

  9. Man. With all the credit card fraud, skimming abd the like... I am more comfortable carrying cash in my travel wallet around my waist.

Minimum: $300. Maximun $1,000 depending on ports.

However, Cash can be lost/stolen. If there is credit card fraud you are protected.

  10. that's a good viewing time. the description is sort of misleading...you dont cruise it for an extended period. they take you to it, you spend maybe an hour there, the ship turns around so all sides get a good view and then you leave. but the ride in and out of the waterway is nice. id say the bulk of viewing will be done by 7pm

    Ok thanks!

  11. the best time is the afternoon because when the sun hits it, it calves more. we saw it in the morning so it wasnt too active. the glaciers are all impressive as is, but the calving is so cool to see adn hear (even tho it is sad as it signifies the glacier dying/retreating).

We are scheduled to depart Juneau at 1:30 PM and then it says cruise Sawyer Glacier until we arrive in Skagway at 7:00 Am the next morning.

  12. Hey everybody. I know the Bliss has yet to sail Alaska but for anyone who has cruised on a ship that did Sawyer Glacier, can someone tell me what to expect? Will there be certain better times for viewing etc? Would like to plan dinner reservations but also don’t want to be in dinner during a time of optimal viewing.

    Thanks!

  13. I have never needed reservations for the MDR. The one cruise when I did make reservations, I still had to wait in line to reach the hostess table and when I mentioned that I had reservations I was told that they weren’t needed and I waited just like everyone else who didn’t have reservations. Wasn’t long at all, just a few minutes.

  14. Yes we had dinners booked as well. We get the earilest dinner times we can. They are 5:30 or 5:45. We had done the same thing last year on the Escape. Booked the easiest seating time and let our waiter know we had a 7:30 show. Always got done in time to drop the kids off at splash academy and be in out seats well before the show started.

Yes that really is plenty of time. It’s just that the online booking system won’t let you book it that way.

  15. Since they have been available for telephone booking for a while, many of the shows on our cruise are sold out when I went to look online. We booked as soon as the telephone reservations were allowed.

They aren’t sold out cause they only allow a certain percentage of advanced reservations. That being said, every show for every day was available for my cruise on 6/16.

  16. Are we talking about Priority tags for Haven? I'm not on the Bliss, but my Escape Haven Priority tags received in the mail were dark purple with black lettering (the ones online were solid white with a small purple bar as BirdTravels mentioned above.)

My first thought was having dark solid color tags was to make sure the Priority tags stood out to the porters & crew and actually thought that was a good idea on NCL's part. If I had printed my tags online, my bags would just blend in with everyone else's.

No I am not haven. But the luggage tags are dark purple with black lettering as you describe. A little hard to read the stateroom number but certainly not unreadable.
