  1. I have to report something I suspect that will scandalise some and I am surprised that it has not been picked up by anyone before. For years I have walked the promonade deck in the "clockwise" tradition - a personal foible that I am probably best known for....it seems some old timers consider the correct direction to be Anticlockwise..... a fact, I have always disputed.. But .there seems to be a change in policy on board and now the signs point now in the correct direction to some ....... clockwise Photos on my blog butarewethereyet.blogspot.com Not that I am stirring the pot .......lol....... but thank you you're welcome.
  2. in answer to your question I packed 11 and bought two pairs in SF........ an amazing Smoking jacket and matching shoes was my pride and blew the budget......but thanks for your concern!
  3. WELL, DADDIES HOME! and...its great to be back. The ship is still gorgeous, and there are still lots of the old faces still here, crew, and passengers. 1500 doing the full world and 400 got on yesterday in SF, some of which are doing the full 74 days back to Southampton. Sadly I am not one of them. Covid restrictions removed the day before she got into the Bay, I wonder if they will come back in about 4 days, time will tell. The new carpets are very nice, the awful fade style in the companion ways have been replaced with a much nicer dseign and the star cases replaced from the old yellow style. Not a fan of freedom dining, and the fixed tables are upstairs which is not my favourite part of the dining room. the grander room is being wasted in my opinion. It was a long hour long process to get onboard, of all the 12 stations they were all jammed with people who did not have NZ visas and were objecting to being told that they could not board without them. Surprising as even I who had booked this trip ten days ago had an email from Cunard reminding me if I need one to get one however there was a number of people who didn't seem to think that this included them. They were sent over to the other side of the room eventually and told to get on their phones or tablets and apply or not board. Finally the lines began moving but the staff behind the counters were obviously fed up with having to repeat over and over than no....they did need one. Food last night was lovely but a far reduced menu. Wifi takes a bit to get your head around, but all in all.....it's so good to be back. Blog being updated.
  4. apparently word has gotten around, I was hoping for genteel anonymity.... Hic.
  5. Just sitting at the airport - champagne in hand for my flight to SFO and the QV.- she arrives in about 11 hours. Ive started the blog again for anyone interested, I don't know how the internet will fair so not sure that I will be able to regularly post on here, but I am grateful to be able to pick up some of the sectors after all after cancelling the World this year. Covid be damned! blog address here - knock yourself out for what its worth. regards Roscoe butarewethereyet.blogspot.com
  6. thanks daiseybel, that's much appreciated. blog awaiting the next adventure as we speak............
  7. just got my assignment last night 3 days before boarding but only booked 3 weeks ago - I wasn't worried and it turned into a very good upgrade. Well pleased Mr Cunard, thanks. Im sure it will all work out Daisybel.
  8. I hate to disappoint you but unfortunately you won't see anything, even if the ship is close to land you won't see much as the views are all up the fjords. It just gives you an excuse to come back and visit us again and I hope you will as the Fiordland (Shadowland) is spectacular. Some pictures and personal experience onboard here" https://roscoesseafever.blogspot.com/2013/09/adventures-into-shadowland-milford.html https://roscoesseafever.blogspot.com/2021/03/man-overboard.
  9. I can remember that there was a Rabbi on the Qe2 but in my memory there is not a chaplain onboard the ships - the Sunday service is usually taken by the Master......
  10. oooohhhhh pagers..on a Cunader.............shudder
  11. hope you are not too disappointed Hilux!
  12. that sok, I just wanted to call him Bro
  13. fantastic...! Can't wait to go around South America again!....just so long as COVID doesn't chase us again anyway thanks Bluemarble
  14. sorry but maybe I misunderstood your post, I assume that the poster was referring to the Hobbiton set, it is better reached from Tauranga and a must see - its about an hour, you could hire a car yourself but remember you can not wander the site on your own. There are set times that tours leave and you are driven down to the site by bus. There are tours to do some of the movie set sites from Queenstown but apart from the view there is noting much to see....hobbiton is still a live set.
  15. in addition you would need to be on a tour of Hobbiton - you can't wander around on your own. It would be an added pressure to get there exactly at your tour time - and I know of people who have missed the start time and being unable to "catch" up the tour as there are only set times you can enter the park. Having said that which ever you choose to do, Rotorua or Hobbiton both are pretty terrific.
  16. Luxor was a great choice, in previous years it has been offered as an overnight and was great spending the night there. Good to hear the ship is full and there are some characters on board, that's why we sail Cunard.
  17. thanks Crofter!!! that's exactly the sort of post ands feedback that we are look at from on board, it would be great if you could keep them up as we are pretty well in the dark as to life on board. Enjoy the next sector, the Middle East is one of the most interesting
  18. awwww thanks John, there was meant to be a full world 2023 voyage but getting covid the day the ship departed has spoilt that. and this shot one will be a small compensation.....ah well....2024 here we come
  19. its quite a conundrum....do I pack a selection....and which ones to abandon in the wardrobe or just buy new before getting onboard? hmmmmmmmmm
  20. thanks guys, hope its up to expectations considering what's on offer...it feels like its been forever since ive been home.
