  1. I've all but given up on their laundry service. To many articles of mine have been damaged over the years to trust them any longer.

Occasionally I'll send in some older things when I'm to tired to wash them myself but usually regret it later on.

  2. We were in Mahogany Bay last week with a Carnival ship and remarked how uncrowded the beach seemed to be. We noticed none of the broken chairs and garbage you mentioned. Must have been a good week.

They must have replaced many of them. We were also there around two years ago & it was much nicer- of course we were the only ship in at the time. When you arrive late in the day & 3,000 people hit the beach before you do you have to settle for what's left.

  3. Check the Caribbean ports forums for the ports you are going to - lots of good info! Short answer - no, you do not need to book an excursion to get to the beaches. Taxis are available in all ports. If you want to go to West Bay in Roatan (rather than stay at Mahogany Bay), I can recommend Rony's Tours for transportation, although others did just get taxis outside the port.

The last stop at Mahogany Bay we docked there an hour or so later than a Carnival ship & the place was already trashed. Although the beach was clean all that were left were broken chairs if you could find two together, garbage on the ground, etc.

This place had really gone downhill in the last few years.

Next cruise to Roatan we're taking you advice & going to West Bay.

  4. Nope, not UNC or Duke. Spring breaks don't start for them until 11 March. However, NC State is on break, as are some other UNC-system schools (Greensboro, for sure) and Wake Forest.

It sounds like there might be another group ready to board in mid March.

There are two items that Princess should consider.

    1. Discontinue the drink package during spring break season.

    2. Don't schedule the 4 and 5 day trips during spring break. All this does is attract party animals.

  5. We've sailed the Caribbean P. a number of times - even before the Royal and Regal were introduced and while it's a nice ship we can't help comparing it to the newer more modern conveniences of the newer design. Our last trip everything was still in OK condition as was the food but unless they offer a really good deal we'll be drawn to the Royal where everything was so much better. :)

  6. We just got off the Emerald today and had a wonderful week! We were NOT in a suite, "just" a Caribe balcony (aft section, port side). Our AC was pleasantly cold, no problems with water temperature either -- well, one day we had to turn up the temp in the shower, think everyone must have been showering at the same time. The new beds were very comfortable, didn't have the new linens yet. Also, I know some people have complained about the towels, didn't find them thin or scratchy at all.

I'm not going to get into the food debate. Suffice it to say, we didn't go hungry.

Funny you should mention it but that what we had to do in order to use the shower most of the time. While the cold water temp on cruise ships is never really "cold" ours was overly hot during the day so we tried to schedule showers for just before dinner to make it bearable.

Our AC was just OK but never cold although it was a cool temperature cruise to the Caribbean. I can't imagine how hot it might get in the cabins at the end of March.

We also had an cabin which adjoined to the next cabin but didn't utilize it. The people in the next cabin liked to keep their balcony door open which caused hot air to blow into out cabin from under the adjoining door when they had it open. This didn't didn't help with the cooling in our cabin at all. :(

The food was OK. Not what we're used to on Princess ships at all. They could learn a lot from the chiefs on other ships for sure. ;)

In the future we'll be sailing on the newer Princess ships without all the annoying problems that come with the Emerald.

  7. If you drink them in your cabin there is no corkage fee. This applies to your question regarding the one bottle per person at embarkation. Just make sure they are in your carry on luggage and you each have one in his/her carry on. Don't try to take both in your carry on.

Do they actually record your cabin number to keep track of your 2 free bottles?
