I had to drive to Rhode Island and back today at work. Left my apartment at 4:15, picked up the van at work and left there at 4:45. Ended my day returning the van at 7pm. Oh what a ride! BUT I could not leave RI without getting a lobster roll! It came with crab cakes and a beautiful view 💗

Rhode Islander here - where’d you get this beauty?

Matsuyama looks like he's going all the way today to his first Masters win...

I enjoyed hearing the Japanese broadcast of his play.

It's funny because I am a NE girl, as were my parents and beyond. Yet I grew up enjoying celery sticks stuffed with pimento cheese! Nobody else I knew ever did. I'm not even sure if they still sell it. Since I'm now in NC, I better look and see! I want me summa dat.

I remember my Mom mixing cream cheese with sliced up green olives stuffed with pimentos, then spreading it on white bread for sandwiches.  Sounds gross but was actually pretty tasty.

New Englander here who grew up in the 1960’s.  My mom would often make cream cheese and olive or cream cheese and pimento sandwiches.  I got to try actual pimento cheese in Florida a few years ago and really liked it.

  4. @sid_9169- I just read a local news story about police finding a crime suspect hiding in a rolled up rug.  Watch out at work! 😉

I received the J&J vaccine on Saturday but I’ll continue to wear a mask for now.  Vaccinations are moving slowly in most New England states.

  5. Joining in on the Bosch conversation.   I’ve never read the books but have enjoyed the series.  I just read that the final season has been shot and will stream this summer. Also there will be a spin-off that will include some of the characters.

DH and I just finished The Americans which is also on Prime right now.  It was fun see all the attention to 1980’s detail.

  6. I also “met” Sid on that thread and read every post.   We were sailing on the Breakaway in April and I tried many new drinks thanks to Sid.  I’ve also learned about lots of great food and drinks thanks to the Tribe.

It’s yet another snowy weekend here in New England but no where near as much as we had in 1978.

Just as an experiment, I would like to try and find out who's actually reading this thing lately... If you're one of the "lurkers", please just reply, even if it's just one word, to let me know you're out there... I know all of the "usual suspects", so no need to play unless you want to. I'd just like to try and gauge how many are actually following...

I’ve been following since the beginning of this thread as well as the earlier version. I first “met” Sid on his Breakaway review because we had an upcoming cruise on her last March.  Thank goodness we went then!  I’m usually a few days behind but glad I’m not tonight.

@30palms where in RI?  I grew up there, outside of Providence.

I grew up in Cranston but have lived in Warwick for over 30 years and I work in Providence.

We love Newport in any season but summer and fall are best.  We’ll be there later this week when our son is home for a visit.  He lives in Indiana and always wants seafood when he’s here.

Wishing all the fathers a very happy Father's Day.  We are headed to Fleming's for dinner tonight to celebrate.

I have a credit with Frontier that I have to use by June 24 (don't have to fly by then, just need to book something).  The original trip was for my husband and I to go to Vegas for a concert in March, which didn't happened due to COVID.  Now, the kids (boy/girl twins aged 25) want to take a trip with me and we've narrowed down the places to Austin, TX and Providence/Newport, Rhode Island.  My daughter is really leaning towards Austin.  Any Austin tribe members?  Is there enough to do for a long weekend there??  We are looking to travel in early Nov. of this year, if there is not another shut down.  Thanks for any input.  🙂

Rhode Island tribe member here if you decide to head this way.  Fall is beautiful here but many outdoor restaurants and activities close down by late October.  Newport mansions will still be open, Cliff Walk is lovely and there will still be good restaurants.

I’m a meat fan Sid.  I hope it was perfect.

  10. Lots has happened to so many here since I’ve last posted.  I read most every day but I’m usually behind.  Sending hugs and good thoughts and congratulations and cheers!

I’ve been working from home here in RI since mid-March. DH still goes to work each day.  Our son lives in Indiana and our daughter in Virginia and we’ve had to postpone visits with both of them for who knows how long.  Currently everyone is employed and we can only hope that will continue.

Thanks to everyone for sharing their lives and supporting everyone else.  This is a great group.

  11. I've been trying to catch up for a long time - I've been about two weeks behind since (gulp) Thanksgiving.  I've enjoyed sharing everyone's holiday traditions and activities - and drinks!

And Ripple!  The drinks of my youth, LOL!  And yes, the drinking age was 18 in RI when I was 17, but all you needed was a friend's older sibling's birth certificate and no problem getting into a bar and drinking.  But then again, anyone could buy cigarettes out of a vending machine back then.

We grew up in the same place at the same time.  There were definitely bars that didn't ask for any proof of age - several on the East Side of Providence come to mind.  Riunute Lambrusco was my drink of choice back then and I have many memories of the Blizzard of `78 associated with it.

Me too!   Cold Duck was also a special occasion drink in my family.  In fact we still have it on Christmas Eve in honor of my mom.

My father worked in TV so I've meet a few.

Thrill of my life as a kid.....(ya gotta be old to know this guy)  Loren Green held my hand, danced and sang "Once in love with Amy" to me.

I once met Loren Green - at the Plaza Hotel in New York when I was about 8.

Sid - adding my thanks for creating this thread and as a result this great group of people.

  12. I read almost every day but I've been about a week behind for a while due to work and a minor health issue.   I'm hoping to catch up tonight as we're driving to VA to spend Thanksgiving with our daughter.

I wanted to post today to wish all our US friends a Happy Thanksgiving and Sid a wonderful trip.  My friend is a travel agent and she was on the Encore for three days while she was in NY.  She loved it and I can't wait to hear about Sid's adventures on board.

Thanks for the reply.  I was only able to book on 9. Didn't want to be right above 8 but I'm sure we will survive! Dh was more than happy to do nothing but sit on the aft balcony when we were on the Epic but there is nothing between you and the ocean on that ship. Maybe he will get out and about a little more on this ship.

We had a large balcony on Breakaway in April and loved being just one deck away from the Waterfront.  We were never bothered by noise and we were near Syd Norman’s.

Sid - my good friend is a travel agent and she’s getting a sneak peak of Encore in NY in November.  She gets to stay 2 nights on board (while docked) with other travel agents and experience the ship.
