  1. When we were on the Breakaway in July with 16 people traveling together the NCL messaging app was crap. We found that using iMessage was more effective and most of us didn't have the wifi package.
  2. Hey there! We are flying into New Orleans Airport and landing very early in the morning, like 1:00 in the morning, on the morning of April 9th. We will have our 9 year old Twins with us. We have a reservation at a hotel that does not have a shuttle (we might be switching hotels to have a 24 hour shuttle). How easy is it to get either a taxi, or an Uber, that early in the morning? I want to get to our hotel as quickly as possible so we can get some sleep before boarding the NCL Breakaway on the 9th.
  3. I can't comment on leaving out of NO as I haven't done that yet but we have sailed the Breakaway three times, and will be going on her again this April out of NO. We have also sailed the Getaway prior to the Covid shut down, which is Breakaway's sister ship. It's a great ship! We really like hanging out on the waterfront on deck 8, it can fill up but seats usually open up. The Atrium is small and can get packed during events like Deal or No Deal. Lines at the elevator can get long but we just took the stairs instead. There was always something to do or see on the ship. Have fun!!!
  4. We had already booked our April cruise out of NO before we sailed this past July, I think we had booked it last Spring but I can't remember. While on board we rebooked as the Cruise Next desk gave us a better deal, and we took the standard Free At Sea perks. I just checked our perks and we have the six bottles of water listed as part of our package. We'll see if they actually end up in our room.
  5. Hello all! We live in CT but will be flying out of the Westchester Airport for our cruise to NO on NCL in April. Anyone have experience with this airport? Our flight out is late so I want to want to make sure that I can get food either in, or near, the airport. Does anyone know what the parking situation is? I looked on their website and they do have long term parking, I was just wondering if there are park and fly lots that might be cheaper. Thanks for all your help!
  6. We have four people in our balcony room when we sail: myself, my husband and our boy/girl Twins. We started cruising with the Twins when they were three and both would fit on the pull out couch side-by-side. On our cruise last summer, they had just turned 9 so we used the pullman and the couch. Having the balcony was HUGE. We had a place to hang out once we put the kids down for bed, and it gave us a place to hang out during the day so we weren't literally on top of each other. I have been in an oceanview room with three adults and it was very, very tight.
  7. We've only used the NCL Air Promo for our Baltic Cruise three years ago. We had a direct flight from Boston to Copenhagen and a direct flight return trip. Flights were on Scandinavian Air and the service was great. I think we paid $20 to pick out seats so that my husband and I could sit together. I highly doubt we would use it for domestic flights though, as my husband likes to find the best deals he can. I swear he should have been a travel agent instead of a teacher.
  8. When we send clothes to the laundry we roll each piece of clothing up and then put it in the bag. That allows us to send a lot more than if you just stuff the clothes in. Is rolling dirty clothes up fun, no, but having clean clothes for the second half of the cruise is good!
  9. Are you talking about a bottle of wine that you bring on the ship from shore or a bottle of wine that you buy on the ship and drink? If you bring a bottle (or more) onto the ship they will charge you $15 for a 750 mL, or $30 for a 1.5 mL, bottle for corkage. However, if you have the drink package I have heard that they wave the corkage fee. Since we started getting the drink package we have not brought wine on board so my experience is not recent. We brought a case of wine with us on a cruise 5 years ago, they checked the wine in the port, put stickers on it and then the charge showed up on our account a few days later. My poor husband had to lug a case of wine around the ship before the rooms opened.
  10. You are allowed to take wine on but it is a $15 a bottle corkage fee for 750 mL or $30 for 1.5 mL. They check the wine in the port, and then the charge appears on your statement. They made a change where if you have the beverage package you do not have to pay the corkage fee. Just be prepared to lug the wine around until the rooms are ready.
  11. We are having issues getting the wine we want at our local package store. The owner told us that there is a major supply chain issue, specifically with the glass that they use to make the wine bottles.
  12. We stayed in a Hampton Inn in Boston at the beginning of December and was pleasantly surprised with their breakfast. They had a make your own waffle station and the sausages were fresh. I'm not a big fan of eggs so I can't comment on them.
  13. Morning all! My daughter loves the Six, she saw it twice on our Breakaway sailing this past summer. The Broadway touring company is coming to our local theater this Spring. How different are the Broadway shows on the ships vs. actually in the theater? Are they basically the same? Thanks.
  14. We bring water bottles and fill them up at the bars. We ask for water with no ice.
  15. When we went on the Breakaway in July they had water dispenser's on tables throughout the port.
  16. So the taxes in port for drinks is not an NCL thing, it's the government of the port that you are docked in. NCL is required to follow local, state and gvt. rules when docked in port. When we were on the Breakaway in July the bars had signs up saying that you were going to pay port taxes on drinks while in port. I *think* they might have mentioned it in the dallies but don't quote me on that as I didn't study the dailies very closely. We've sailed on NCL 5 times and have never had "hidden" costs added onto our bill at the end. If you have the drink package you will be charged gratuities up front, we always prepay them before boarding. If you go over the $15 cap I believe you pay 20% on the drink, I usually stick to wine that is below the $15 cap so I am not exactly sure how this works. If you are charged the 20% on a drink above the cap the cost is right there on the receipt. They don't add up all of the extra 20% and charge you at the end. The staff gives you receipts if you have to sign for a room charge and the cost, plus taxes etc., are listed on the receipt. We also always pay the staff gratuities up front and then tip people as we see fit during the cruise.
  17. We cruised to the Caribbean in July with a total of 16 people in our party. 5 people, including my husband and son, tested positive for Covid after the cruise. My daughter and I had Covid previously (also vaccinated and boosted) and did not get it.
  18. It was open on the Breakaway this past summer. We dropped our 9 year old Twins off a bunch of times.
  19. Repositioning to cover the cancelled Viva cruises. We just got an e-mail canceling our Viva cruise and offering to transfer us to the Getaway.
  20. We were on the Breakaway two weeks ago and I HATED the app. We found that if we were all on the ships intranet we could send messages to other iPhones. It was a lot more reliable way of communicating. We never got charged for the internet package or minutes.
  21. There were 16 of us on the Breakaway last week and half of us got the messaging app, I will never pay for it again, it didn’t work very well. We figured out that if you put your iPhone in airplane mode and connected to the ship’s wifi we could send iMessages to each other. Worked a lot better than the app.
  22. I am on the Breakaway right now, waiting to disembark. There were 16 of us on the cruise. We made reservations for the shoes as soon as we got on. My Mom did it I. Person and my husband and I used one of the video kiosks in the lobbies. Easy-peasy.
  23. We had a fantastic cruise, nice and relaxed. Ask me any questions and I’ll try and answer them. I don’t have pictures of the dailies.
  24. Not sure what part of CT you are in but Hartford Healthcare seems to have Covid testing available: https://hartfordhealthcare.org/health-wellness/coronavirus/testing I did a dummy appointment at CVS and since it is for travel it would cost $139 per test.
  25. I know they did precovid, honestly most garages in NY do. We were just in the city this weekend and our friend was charged an oversize fee for her suburban (she was expecting it). I also forgot to mention that they wash your car while they have it in the garage.
