  1. Man, that white hull of Q really looks nasty above the water line
  2. Zaandam coming into view above the shipping containers in front of Walt's ship on the far left while the Quantum captain and crew are taking their coffee break. Pilot just called in with a 10 min ETA to Franklin Dock
  3. A "smoking" is another word for tuxedo in some countries 😉 "No smoking" resulted in the guy taking off his tux
  4. Zaandam approaching Thane, exactly one mile south of downtown Juneau
  5. Q could use a little TLC/touch up paint under her port side anchor well
  6. Pop Quiz; what was RCI (Royal Caribbean international) known as before RCI?
  7. Has it been a while since you guys heard any ship to shore/shore to ship audio on Ptz?
  8. Into Gastineau Channel and about to pass Marmion Island https://www.bivy.com/browse/adventures/us/alaska/gastineau-channel:-douglas-boat-harbor-to-marmion-island-6394275185033216
  9. Her captain is Ane Jan Smit (far right standing in the pic)
  10. About to pass Taku Inlet on the way to Gastineau Channel
  11. All the best Ann! Maria and I are thinking about you!
  12. The ceramic ship models are not bad, but I personally prefer the more detailed ones
  13. Thanks for your service to your country, Coastie! Semper Paratus!
  14. Captain Ryan Whitaker, a Brit, with HAL since 2000
  15. One more quickie; These highly detailed ship models (much more detailed than the Royal Goedewagen ceramic ones) are made by Sherbak. They are great but not cheap! You'll wind up paying beaucoup $$$ (or Euro's 😉) for them
  16. Couple of things The B.B. King bands are now only on the three newest ships; Koningsdam, Nieuw Statendam and Rotterdam VII. The four Vista (Zuiderdam, Oosterdam, Westerdam and Noordam) and two Signature-class ships (Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam) now have the Rolling Stone Rock band. We were on Eurodam about a month ago (San Diego to Vancouver, BC) and enjoyed the RS Rock band (2 female vocalists, one male vocalist/guitarist, a bass guitarist, a solo guitar, keyboard player, and drummer - no horns unlike the BB's) They played a good variety in their 3 nightly sets (one dark night) and had a lots of people on the dance floor in what they now call the Rolling Stone Lounge. BBC Earth used to have the Lincoln Center Stage classical musicians playing alongside the awesome footage. Since Lincoln Center Stage left the dam ships, there have been no more BBC Earth showings as far as I know
  17. A pirate walked into a bar and the bartender said, "Hey, I haven't seen you in a while. What happened? You look terrible!" "What do you mean?" said the pirate, "I feel fine.'" Bartender, "What about the wooden leg? You didn't have that before." Pirate, "Well, we were in a battle and I got hit with a cannon ball, but I'm fine now." Bartender, "Well, OK, but what about that hook? What happened to your hand?" Pirate, "We were in another battle. I boarded a ship and got into a sword fight. My hand was cut off. I got fitted with a hook. I'm fine, really." Bartender, "What about that eye patch?" Pirate, "Oh, one day we were at sea and a flock of birds flew over. I looked up and one of them crapped in my eye." "You're kidding," said the bartender, "you lost an eye just from bird crap?" Pirate, "It was my first day with me hook!"
  18. Usually what you'll find in the ship's shops as far as ship models are these ceramic ones made by Dutch company Royal Goedewagen, the same company who makes the tiles and plates. Not sure if they have one out yet for Rotterdam VII. There are no discounts 🙃
  19. "Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices." — Harry S. Truman, 33rd U.S. President, 1945
  20. For the non-Dutch speakers, "'t Lekkende Azipodje" (meaning "the little leaking azipod" in English) was the name of Amsterdam's "O.B." (Officers Bar) down on A-Deck. Always a popular location at night for those with officer status to unwind, play a round, or two or six, of darts, listen/dance to tunes (it had its own jukebox), have a cold cerveza or something stronger (it had its own assigned bartender with a 0200 hrs. closing time), "shoot the bull", and/or just relax off-shift. The supervisors had their own bar next door known as the "P.O." (Petty Officers) Bar (lots of Karaoke in there at night) and the ratings had the Crew Mess.
  21. Henk and Christel going for a bike ride on Jeju Island, South Korea in the middle of Amsterdam's Grand Pacific & Far East voyage (Seattle - San Diego) plus a variety of shots from that voyage from a crew member's viewpoint
