  1. Exactly!!!! What the heck!!! We spent about that for a 9 Night Southern Caribbean cruise last July on DCL in a regular verandah for 2 adults and 1 kid (16). DCL is more expensive than most comparable cruise lines.
  2. That sounds fabulous. Patagonia is so beautiful. If you are going in peak southern hemisphere summer, bring layers. It was a lot warmer in some places than we thought it would be. Hope you have a great trip.
  3. I didn't realize it had gotten so bad! We visited in 2000, and it was so beautiful.
  4. I have brought on packaged rum cakes to DCL from Cayman, but those are sealed in a package. I heard a story of a couple trying to bring half a dozen big cookies from a bakery in Orlando called Gideon's onto a DCL ship. This was at embarkation. They wouldn't let them bring them, so the couple started shoving giant cookies in their mouths😂 We brought on half of one of those cookies to DCL, but it was wrapped up in paper in a carry-on. It was probably too small to really notice. We knew there was a risk of it getting tossed.
  5. I hope they can restore some of the Chilean portion of the cruise. That's an itinerary I would love to do. Seeing the fjords from the ship would be fantastic. Getting to visit family in Santiago would be a huge bonus.
  6. So true. I always look at the emergency pamphlet in the seat back and look for the exit and feel to see if there is a lifejacket under the seat. However, we tend to follow rules in case of emergencies. Don't get me started on how pitiful the stock seatbelts in cars are and how worthless they are compared to what is required in autoracing, where the people actually know how to drive. I also wear full motorcycle gear when I ride, because I like my skin. I always look for the life jacket in the cabin too. There's only so much you can do for some people though.
  7. It kills me too. I have sensitive hearing and loud, incessant noises trigger fight or flight in my brain. I know it's supposed to do that, but it's almost unbearable for me.
  8. I thought it was supposed to be there, but we never saw it or found it on the TV. This was Fantasy in July.
  9. Completely get the tornado reference. I am originally from Oklahoma.
  10. The Audubon Museum/Zoo is great too. I love stopping at Central Grocery in the French Quarter and getting a muffaletta. They are decent size, so you could split it. It's a quintessential New Orleans sandwich. Makes me hungry thinking about it. Cafe du Monde is a really nice place to sit, drink coffee, eat beignets, and people watch. I am going to have to stop there, or I will give you a whole page of places to eat😂
  11. Disney switched back to in-person. They were doing virtualish until recently. It was kind of garbagy though, because trying to get the video to play on your phone through the app was hard. It kept pausing and spinning. We were never able to get it to play completely, and we couldn't find it on the stateroom TV. We have been on many cruises though, so we know what to do. We had to check off at the muster station in-person. Even if we hadn't been required, we would have at least went to find it. I don't want to be worrying about where it is in an emergency. But standing there in the sun waiting for inconsiderate people to show up is completely not fun.
  12. Not looking forward to the in-person muster torture in June on our DCL cruise. It's usually in full sun on the deck, with people showing up very late and talking the whole time. At least we don't have to wear our life jackets anymore. So looking forward to the luxury of the Celebrity muster drill in July though.
  13. Maybe you needed to ask at a desk? I think I have usually seen spa hairdryers to not be permanently installed but loose, like a regular home hairdryer. I might be wrong though.
  14. Did you experience anything like this in Chile? I ask, because we have been a few times and have family that live there. Generally, we felt Chile to be very safe, even in Santiago. We haven't been to Buenos Aires. We have only been to small towns in Argentina in Patagonia, so not a lot of people, much less crime. Hoping to do a South American cruise one day.
  15. Maybe wheelbarrow service. That's usually what I need after a cruise😂
  16. We live in Texas, so I always have to find out where people are from before considering their weather/clothing advice🤣
  17. I had a temporary crown come loose right before a cruise. Luckily, I got it fixed at home, and they gave me glue and supplies to take care of it in case it came loose on the cruise. I was glad it didn't though. Glad your husband wasn't too bad off during your trip.
  18. My husband and I are electrical engineers in the semiconductor industry. Casual was the rule. People sometimes didn't even wear shoes, especially at the start-up. I am "retired" now, so my wardrobe is cruddy clothes I wear around the house, workout clothes, or casual clothes to run errands/buy groceries. However, I still enjoy dressing up some. It feels nice to look nice. I know not everyone feels that way, and that's fine with me. We dress up for formal/chic nights and a little less so for dinner every night. I don't care what others wear, as long as it doesn't make me not want to eat. I get the shorts thing. We live in Texas and visit Florida often. I have heard that they allow Bermuda shorts and of course the long dark socks. Bermuda shorts are really long though. I actually don't mind men's shorts as much. Women's shorts can get very tight and very short pretty easily. Men tend to look nicer when wearing tailored shorts.
  19. Our son has only been on Disney, but we require him to look nice there. He usually wears a polo or subtle hawaiian shirt with khakis or nice dark jeans. For formal, he wears khakis and a button down long sleeve shirt. He still wears his Keen sandals though but with socks. I just can't bring myself to buy him a pair of shoes for a cruise that he will never wear again. Maybe once his feet stop growing, I will.
  20. At least they changed it fairly early instead of last minute. I would see about switching sailings.
  21. We have a stationary one, but I do think they make them for RVs now. Not sure if they work when the RV is moving though.
  22. I was just about to mention this. We went to Patagonia (Chile and Argentina) on a land trip during xmas break 2019. The airports/planes, hotels, and sightseeing trips/boats were full of kids. We have a kid, so it wasn't a big deal. There were also a lot of college kids and teen running around. Got to see a lot of interesting cultural things that other countries do on family vacations though. My father-in-law is from Chile, and we have been before, so I didn't think anything like that would be out of the ordinary for me. Unfortunately, when you are looking at doing it is really the only time that you can cruise down there, due to winter/ice.
  23. I suspect they might have questions about what you are trying to bring onboard. The equipment isn't small.
  24. Just a towel, Turkish bath style. I wear a swimsuit though. I don't think there is officially any rules. However, you should always have some fabric, ie towel or swimsuit, between you and the bench in the sauna/steam rooms and the loungers. Technically, I guess the hot tub is up to you. Again, I just wear a swimsuit. This isn't a bath in Germany or Japan, so swimsuits are not forbidden.
