  1. What should I expect?

I could only find a few reviews, unfortunately .

I was thinking about taking this cruise to Vancouver in order to connect with my Hawaiian cruise which from Vancouver . I am concerned because the reviews have been mixed. "Party ship, lack of service and entertainment, chaos, .. were all touched upon in the reviews. I read on CC that boarding can be horrendous!

Anyone who has experienced the 1 day cruise , please give me your thoughts:D

We are doing our first 1-day from Seattle to Vancouver on the Grand. A few people I work with have done these but in reverse. They've had mixed reviews as well. It will definitely be an interesting experience and will feel very strange getting on the ship and knowing that it is only for one night. Whether I like it or not, we'll just have to wait a few more weeks to see.

  2. We have a flight booked through a TA our paperwork says Air Canada and givea an AC flight number. How would we know if it is actually Air Canada Rouge, is the flight number prefix different. I would rather not ring my TA at this stage.

Log into the Air Canada website. Do a dummy booking and fill out the day you are flying and look for your flight number. From there you will be able to see whether your flight is Air Canada or Air Canada Rouge as both have the "AC" designation.

  3. .... She agreed that most of her clients allow her to do her job and appreciate her time and arent looking to save/pinch, every penny they can. I felt bad for her. She said she would of lost money if she lost both our cabins switching, and she lost money because of the price drop, she got less commision, and told me that is not my problem so don't worry about it....

You are the client and should be given the best deal possible and not made to feel guilty for doing so. She shouldn't be griping to you about you trying to save yourself money and her losing out on commission. That is not professional at all.

Any future sailings you do, either book directly with Princess or find a different agency to deal with.

  4. We are sailing Princess for the first time. We booked the cruise through a TA and mentioned that I am on these boards and if the price of our cabin drops before sailing, would she honor the price drop, and she said of course she would.

The price of our cabin dropped $400 total this weekend, so I called. She said that the $100 OBC she gave us upon booking would be disqualified, which I told her fine, because paying $400 less would more than make up the cost. She then informed me that, not only do I lose the $100 OBC but she can only discount our room a total of $175.98. I asked, per person right? she said no, total for the room, she has to get commision and I would be cutting into her commision. so we lose the $100, but got the room discounted $175 even though the cabin is now $400 less than what we paid? I am confused. It now means that we only saved $75.98????

If this is true and typical, I will never use a TA again and just book through the cruise line. DH said live and learn. What are you all experiences with TA and price drops? just curious:confused:

I would find another TA. With the number of price drops we've been able to take advantage of, not once have we have an issue with our TA making the adjustment for us. Of course, if we've booked during a sail where there are on board amenities, we could definitely loose them when being re-fared but more often then not it is worth it. I would ask to speak with his/her supervisor for further explanation of the pricing structure and why you aren't benefiting from the $400 price drop.

  5. Looking at a cruise from Quebec City and cannot get rates or times to work. I'd like to fly into Montreal and then travel on to QC. Any experience with this? I'd love to hear experiences and advice. Thanks.

Back in 2012, we did a Canada/New England cruise sailing from Quebec City to NYC. As we were coming from the west coast of Canada, we could fly non-stop from Vancouver to Montreal. To get us from Montreal to Quebec we opted to take the train and we loved the experience. We were fortunate that our train added a luggage car to the route so we didn't have to worry about lugging our luggage onto the passenger car and just had to drop it off before boarding.

  6. You don't get any other perks but the biggest perk of all in my opinion is the extra room in the cabin itself, on the balcony and in the bathroom. You also get double the amount of wardrobes and in the bathroom there is a cabinet on each side of the basin plus of course a bath. We have had 3 other couples in for drinks and there is plenty of room for entertaining. :)

I agree. The space in the mini is wonderful. It is square which is much different then you find on other Princess ships (besides the Ocean).

Here is a photo I took back in April...

  7. I had to chuckle when I read about the border guards. You hit the nail on the head. We've had a couple of experiences with them that have left me shaking my head and I'm Canadian!

A friend of mine was driving across the border with Texas plates and had the same experience with the gun question. In fact, they even pulled him over and searched his car (a Miata... like that is going to fit much in it).

Another time we took my niece shopping across the line and had a note signed by her parents stating she was authorized blah blah blah. We had absolutely no problem heading in the US, didn't even have to show the note to US Customs. Coming home was a completely different story. We were questions, had to show the note and if I remember correctly, she was even asked a question. Beyond ridiculous in my opinion.

Anyhow, I'm glad you had a wonderful trip. Sailing on the Pacific Princess has been my most favourite cruise so far.

  8. Since Vancouver will be having phenomenal warm weather tomorrow, you are going to have a spectacular sail away. If you are wanting to see the festivities from the ship as you sail away, you'll want to be on the port side. You'll also want to grab a spot on deck 10 (jogging track) or out on deck 9 panoramic buffet aft.

  9. Canada Place is underground parking and as noted in the above post has 24/7 security. We'll be leaving our car here when we do a 1-day in September.

As for the Accent Inn, I'm assuming you are speaking of the one in Richmond. If so, parking is outdoors. Whether this plays into your decision making, I'm not sure. As for security, being that it is a hotel, I'm sure there is some but I'm not familiar with it.

  10. I too recall posts about getting off after boarding, but every post I've seen this year has said that pax were told they could not get back off - hence the warning. Since it's a public holiday I expect the bare minimum of staff numbers and time - would *you* like to work on Canada Day? ;-)

At the end of the day would you rather risk not being able to get off, or dealing with your carryons for a while? Plus the queues for boarding are usually shorter later in the day...

Your citizenship is irrelevant. On ship = USA/on shore = Canada so no immigration staff available = nobody gets off.

If you are wanting to partake in some of the festivities at Canada Place, check in your luggage with the porters, have minimal carry-ons and go enjoy before heading through security/customs. Just make sure you check-in before the required time.

  11. Try Care Vacations. When my Dad was still alive and my parents were travelling, he would make his arrangements through them. They would deliver the concentrator and tanks to the ship. It was a seamless process. Also make sure you get a hold of Princess. Here is a blurb from their website:

If you will require oxygen supplementation during your sailing, please contact our Fleet Medical Department at (661)753-2680. You will be asked to send a letter or prescription from your doctor. You will also be required to let us know the type of equipment you will be using and whether you will be bringing your own supplies or if you will be having the equipment delivered to the ship

  12. The one thing that caught my attention was when they showed the ship leaving Vancouver. The ship was sailing under the bridge and was actually entering the harbour and not exiting. Having been born and raised in Vancouver, it's amazing the difference in the waterfront between '79 and now. You never really pay much attention to the change until you see if it film/photos.

  13. Just wondering if it is possible to ask to be upgraded or for an up-sell (say to a suite from a balcony)

When there has been a price drop (before final payment) that doesn't affect our booking like loosing the deposit, we have upgraded our cabin category and been refared when there is a difference. Whether this is what you meant, I'm not sure.

If you don't ask, you won't know the answer :D

  14. I have a question and I think I know the answer but I don't know if it is the right answer.

We are contemplating sailing roundtrip LA on a Mexican 7-day cruise and then staying on that ship and cruising back to Vancouver. I'm a little foggy as to whether this would be allowed or would it be in violation of the Jones Act. I'm thinking it would be okay to do this.

    Does anyone know?

  15. The ones we experienced on our recent cruise were fantastic, soft and chewy. However, we have experienced the break-a-tooth kind of cookie as well. I think it all depends on the cookie chef.
