1. Can't imagine why so many complaints about homeless milling about. Unless it's recently changed, I've only seen a few & this is after walking around a bit last night & today. This is nothing compared to Seattle!

So the cruise is nearly here & I'll be on board the Spirit this time tomorrow. Thanks again to all for helping me plan my trip!

Unfortunately, the homeless usually show up once the cruise ships start rolling in.

Enjoy your cruise. Glad it has dried out for you a little this afternoon. Hopefully the drying trend will continue right through sailaway tomorrow.

  2. does anyone have a recommendation on a nice not overly expensive place for breakfast that is unique to Vancouver?

    Fern [24 sleeps :D]

Besides the recommendation you've already received' date=' I would also suggest Moose's Down Under for breakfast. Click here for a link to their webpage and breakfast menu. They are below street level.

There is also Sciue. Click here for a link to their webpage. They are located in the same block as Moose's.

Of course, there is always Tim Horton's which is also on Pender Street (1/2 block from Sciue).

  3.
Does anyone know what time you can normally board? I know in Miami, you can always board several hours before the posted time. Does anyone know if this is true for Vancouver?
We've usually arrive at the Port around 11:00. By the time you drop off your luggage, go through security and get checked in, you are usually on board no later than noon. Of course, timing depends on how many ships are in port. We've been on board in 30 minutes while another time, we had to sit in the waiting area.
  4.
question....the faresaver comes in 10 single tickets ? it's not like one ticket with 10 uses right?
    thanks !
Yes, it is 10 single tickets. You will have to validate the ticket either before you get on sky train or when you board a bus. I believe they allow for 90 minutes on one ticket. I have an annual pass so that's why I'm guessing at the 90 minute transfer time.
  5.
I'm flying in from Saskatoon in May with my cruisin' buddy. We get in after 3 and are staying at the Pan Pacific. We would like to spend some time wandering around after we check in; thinking about a seabus to Lonsdale Quay and going to the Market and Screaming Mimi's for clam chowder [a friend had been there several years ago and loved the chowder] or walking to Gas Town and finding somewhere to eat along the way - maybe the Old Spaghetti Factory? Any thoughts:) on these or alternate late afternoon/early evening possibilities. We both wanted to get to see some of Vancouver before the cruise & had thought of the walking to the Vancouver Lookout for a panormaic view of the city later in the evening. Safe walking area?

    Thanks for any insights

Another restuarant recommendation, if you plan on wandering around Gastown, would be Steamworks. Also, at the new convention center next to the Pan Pacific is a wonderful irish pub called Mahoney & Sons. Great food and if it is a nice day, you can sit out on their patio and view the spectacular harbour and mountains and watch a cruiseship or two sail away.
  6. Or...

You could take a tour that rides you to E. Lake and lets you take the train back.

This would be my recommendation. You are getting the best of both worlds.

The first time I went up to Alaska was in September, I did a tour that went all the way to Emerald Lake. To be honest, I wasn't all that impressed with the lake. The scenery on the way there was beautiful, but I was underwhelmed by Emerald Lake. I thought Spirit Lake was much prettier.

The second time I went to Alaska was in May; we did the train both ways. It was great going up and the scenery is beautiful but you see the same stuff coming back down.

I do have links to the photos in my signature so feel free to check them out.

  7. Hi there - I have scoured this thread and couldn't find the information I'm looking for so hopefully someone can help me.

With the 10% off they currently have until the end of the month, I thought we could take advantage of booking our beverage package. I am not confused about what is offered with the soda package but I am a little confused with the Classic Non-alcohol package. Is hot chocolate included with this package? I'm not a coffee drinker but do like a good cup of hot chocolate. I'm also curious about the bottled water. It states non-premium bottled water. Does that mean Dasani (coke product) or something along this line rather then the premium Evian or San Pellegrino?

Any clarification you guys could give is graciously appreciated.
