  1. I took a tux on our Baltic cruise 3 years ago. But I didn't see a lot of formal wear. But it should be noted that I only ran into a few European cruisers. Most were either American, Canadian, or Asian. Most only wore suits at best. I think I ran into more people with formal wear on a Hawaiian cruise the year before.
  2. I'm sure it can. It can probably even sail to Canada or into foreign ports in the Caribbean and Mexico. But I'm not sure I understand your point? Does it?
  3. Um, why are people being quarantined on the Ruby? As I understand it, they only require a pre-test (PCR or Antigen) before boarding. I have friends that are on the current trip and they have not experienced any testing other than their pre-cruise test. What am I missing here?
  4. I was wrong in assuming that this particular forum was about ocean liners. I thought that this would have been relative to the subject since this was a forum about Princess ships. But I understand that riverboats, ferries, and other vessels that only operate domestically must be of domestic registry, since they are unable to safely make stops outside of the U.S.
  5. There are no cruises out of Whittier to Seattle, and all cruises out of San Francisco and LA are round trips. Sorry, there are some trips that start in Seattle and disembark at Canada Place, and there are some that start in Van and disembark in Seattle.
  6. Both the Princess and Holland America brands from Carnival tend to cater to an older demographic. But I remember 17¢/gallon gas when there were gas wars. Otherwise, it was around 21¢ a gallon. My car required premium (called ethyl back in the day) so I was used to pay 23¢ a gallon. But I'm not that old.
  7. I think all the cruise tours originate out of Canada Place.
  8. I refuse to buy anything for that medallion. The lanyard will work find if you use it that way. That being said, the first time that we were on a medallion cruise, I lost my medallion at our very first port. When I realized it, I called the ship and when we were approaching the ship, a Guest Service employees was approaching me with a new medallion and lanyard (since she had my picture, she knew who to look for.) From then on, I kept the lanyard on me but kept it under my shirt so I wouldn't be immediately be identified as a "cruise-ship sucker."
  9. I think it has something to do with the infection rate from cruise tours, not the locale. Probably from people crammed into buses and trains without prophylactic measures.
  10. As I understood it from CDC from the very beginning of this mess, masks (especially medical procedure masks) will help prevent you from spreading the virus if your are infected. It will not protect you from being infected. An N95 mask is the best to minimize exposure, but most people without medical or first-responder training probably do not know how to fit an N95 to minimize contamination. An N95 does inhibit free breathing, more than a procedural mask, so you have to take that into account as you go about your activities.
  11. They will introduce themselves and give you their contact information, which will also be on a card in your stateroom. They will know your status as it is clearly displayed on your stateroom door or the screen by the door. I doubt that it matters, we've been treated the same on most of our cruises as we were on the first. There has only been one cruise were we were rudely mistreated throughout the ship (except for the senior staff.) We received a 50% FCC for that cruise from corporate (we were advised to escalate it to corporate by one of the guest services supervisors.)
  12. Just answer Yes to the question about being concerned about Covid in your area. You wouldn't be lying, since everyone should be concerned. However if you're not ...
  13. It's institutional food. No different than you would get in most large settings, such as one of the corporate cafeterias at a lot of the tech industry companies. The only difference is that they serve it on table cloths. I think you'll also find many of the MDR offerings up in the Buffet as well.
  14. There is only one cruise ship in the world that is of U.S. registry. NCL's Pride of America is based in Hawaii and only does Hawaiian island cruises.
  15. On our last cruise in 2019, we were on-board during Chanukah and there were services that observed each day. There are also Bible-Study groups and in some cases Christian services on Sundays if there is someone on board to conduct them. We were on a Panama cruise where the CD conducted the Sunday services, turned out he was also an ordained minister. On a Hawaiian cruise, the person who led the bible-study also conducted the Sunday services, turned out he was a retired pastor, was formerly a member of our church, and he was formerly an engineer that worked at the same company as me; and his wife had worked with the church member who was picking us up at the pier in San Francisco.
  16. CVS just takes and monitors the sampling. They're done with it after that. They say that the lab will return results in 1-2 days. I don't know about CVS, though they are who we are going through this week, but in the past with county agencies and hospitals, we've normally received results within 24-48 hours (usually less than 48.)
  17. Is the Captain's Cocktail party only for Elite members now? It used to be for Elite and Platinum.
  18. Amateur playing third base, because he/she read "some" book, or these days, viewed some "YouTube video". Learning to read the table is the part that he/she probably didn't/couldn't learn. The rest of it is mechanical, realistically it doesn't even matter if all of the cards (except the hole card) is dealt face-up. That being said, I do not play in cruise-ship casinos, nor at many of the low stakes Nevada gimmick tables.
  19. Best luck I have had at a craps table was when this elderly woman made 23 straight passes. When she finally crapped out, the entire table, including dealers, gave her a round of applause.
  20. That would be Pride of America, the only cruise ship in the world that is registered and assembled in the U.S. of A.
  21. Dementia is not genetic. Just because one or both of your parents may have been afflicted with dementia or Alzheimer's, it is not an indication that you will be affected. As to your advice about not playing on the ship's casinos, you're right on. Learn the games, learn the odds (use Nevada casinos for reference,) and then figure out that the odds on the ship's casino are considerably higher in favor of the house. Then think about whether you really want to spend time there.
  22. I thought Tylenol #3s were by prescription in Canada. But they sell Tylenol #1s over the counter.
  23. 2 people buying a one device package is $100 each or $200 total at regular price. A 4 device package is also $200 (and can be shared with others.)
