  1. That was what I wondered. And wasn't it in dry dock? That means it was not in the water. How can barnacles become a problem if the ship is not in the water? If it wasn't in dry dock (I've read both scenarios) and if it is all true, why aren't they working on the problem non-stop whenever they have the opportunity? Bring the crew and whatever equipment they need and can board and go to work at every stop. If they aren't doing that- what IS their plan to fix this problem. The changes in the itinerary and port stops are really drastic and mostly make any shore excursion impossible. A $100 OBC in no way compensates for this.
  2. Perhaps I was hasty in saying I would cancel. Although I do still wonder why the barnacles were not taken care of while the ship sat idle. And why just this one ship- agree that it sounds curious. But even with the short time there are things you can do- I'm not sure that the float plane in Ketchikan is necessarily out- someone like Island Wings may be able to work around your timing. The entire experience is about 2 hours. If not- go and see the totem poles- they are quite lovely and unique. As for the Hubbard Glacier small ship tour- is that the one that picks you up and drops you off on the ship? I would think that that one might go- hard to believe that they would skip out on the glacier. And the rental car will still be there- you just won't have it as long. To some degree your options on shore will depend on how many other ships are in port with you- if just a few then the operators on shore will be more willing to work with you. They will be very aware of the changes in your timing and I suspect will be trying to work out things. Especially if there aren't a lot of ships in port with you.
  3. Just saw it. Wow- those port times are really bad. Why didn't they take the ship out of sailing and take care of this? It didn't happen over night- I am confused that it has not been taken care of on a regular basis. Is there something different about this particular ship which has lead to this?
  4. Where are you getting the information about the "predicted" short port times? Agree that not enough time for excursions in port would probably cause me to cancel. Why are they shortening the times and is there a reason to think this may spread to other sailings?
  5. There apparently are at least two versions of this excursion- one is about 2-2 1/2 hours from the ship back to the ship. The other apparently goes from the ship and connects in Juneau. Not sure which one you are being offered. If the short one- any chance your kids will be signed up in kids onboard programs? It is possible that they could stay on board and just the parents (and perhaps your eldest) could take the excursion. Agree that with 5 of you, even if there is a children's price, would be a lot.
  6. None of the Train and Bus combos are going this year, whether through a cruise line or through a private group. Very sad but oh well. You might want to look at the train-lunch-gold panning-Red Onion combo, not the same but seems to be a decent price for the opportunity to see at least a brief part of a variety of excursions. At least that is where we finally settled.
  7. Make sure you don't have a popup blocker-
  8. Nooooo- that is the wrong way! Perhaps it will be better in a while.
  9. My July trip to Alaska just went down for the second time in a week. Not a lot but enough to call for a price adjustment. I always call since most of the time the agent is able to give me a rate even cheaper than I see online.
  10. And- if entering Canada (even if you aren't getting off the ship)- there is the highly discussed ArriveCAN which you MUST complete online within 72 hours of boarding. I see the suggestion of renting a car one way- just curious if that is actually allowed? Picking it in one country and dropping it off in another?
  11. Yes there are bathrooms and two floors- the top outside. I think if it were me- do they have any electronics they can bring? We usually tried to restrict them when traveling and bring only them out at times like the one on the smaller ship. Or something for them to enjoy if they get bored. It is a long but amazing trip.
  12. Thanks much- and I wonder why it is that so many people on CC seem to be resisting the form? If you can use CC you can fill out the form.
  13. Yea! And do they in fact provide an approval form to print out?
  14. I have read on CC about the massive hold ups as people were boarding on other cruiselines. They apparently had computers (and printers?) set up for people who needed them but it caused a big mess. Many lines are sending out the information about it perhaps a week prior to sailing? That should help as the information that you get if you talk to a Celebrity agent you may well be told the wrong.
  15. If you are referring to ArriveCAN here is a link https://arrivecan.cbsa-asfc.cloud-nuage.canada.ca/en/auth?returnUrl=%2Flanding-page
  16. No- here is one link to it https://arrivecan.cbsa-asfc.cloud-nuage.canada.ca/en/auth?returnUrl=%2Flanding-page. It is an online form which gathers information required by the Canadian Gov from all people who will be entering Canada. And must be completed 72 hours prior to boarding. Apparently you get an approval which can be printed out to show when you board. I say apparently since I have not completed the entire thing since I am still several months out. Andif you have trouble on the phone- can you access a computer? Or use the one at the public library? but no- that won't work because you have to submit pictures of your covid vaccines. Maybe best to ask a teenager to help you with it- a neighbor or kid/grandkid?
  17. Good point and you are right. They need to test before boarding and complete ArriveCAN but don't need to be tested before coming home.
  18. Do you have popups blocked on your computer? When I do what you have done (and sorry, yes it is Manage Trip), there is a popup saying you are not 21 days out, etc.and moveup is not yet available. I am assuming that once it is available, the website will then link me over to the Moveup bidding page.
  19. This is what Kindle is perfect for. Even if you run out of books you can just download more. You can also get newspapers and magazines.
  20. The timing is one day prior to leaving to enter the US- not two days. Although things change rapidly- I would confirm this information on both the Canadian (https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/cruise and US official websites (https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/before-you-go/covid-19_testing_required_US_Entry.html) a week or so before you leave. Or at least- that is our plan- we don't sail until late July.
  21. The short answer is yes and yes and also you need to complete the ArriveCan prior to boarding. There is a long discussion here to review
  22. Do NOT rely on the celebrity agents for information- several people over on the Alaska board have been told by agents as recently as a day or two ago that they do not need to complete the ArriveCAN on cruises that enter Canada. At this time (and yes, it could change), that is not true- anyone onboard (and I assume this means crew?) is require to complete the form 72 hours prior to boarding a plane or ship. The Celebrity website seems to be up to date, but I also check both the Canadian and US official websites just to be sure. As far as the 24 hours- some of the times given are by the day, some by the hour. I would check carefully which the required testing times are since government workers, whether in Canada or in US, are often very tied to the very specific requirements as listed. So they may look at it and say- 28 hours is NOT 24 hours.
  23. Not sure how long you have but my two thoughts would be the trolley tour around town https://anchoragetrolley.com and also the Native Heritage Center- a wonderful place. https://www.alaskanative.net
  24. This may have been discussed here but I can't find it. After you have put in a bid for a Move Up, can you continue to keep track of prices should they drop further and request a price adjustment? I am guessing that if a bid is accepted that it would not be possible?
  25. Not sure what you are asking here. You either get an email about the Move Up offers or you can go to Manage My Reservation and usually the bottom item is MoveUp. It will ask your name and booking number and tell you whether it is open yet. If it isn't it will say 21 days- ignore that- it is an automatic response which should be understood to mean- It is not available yet.
