Very interesting...!  Do you know if that's specific to the Breakaway...?  It would be great news if that's the case for all NCL B2B passengers on all of their ships. 🙂

According to the NCL website, Canada and the US are still requiring negative test results prior to boarding...so unless a B2B cruise is considered just one cruise (not two), it sounds like we still might need to do a test onboard before the second leg of B2B Alaska cruise on the Jewel...?

I can't imagine it is only for one ship out of the entire fleet.

Ok. Disregard all the food comments ( apart from the toughness of some items) . Apparently, the food quality should be put down to both of us catching CoVid . I had noticed a significant number of people coughing on board over the last few days and as hard as we tried to be careful . We have both tested positive today . We brought kits with us . My wives symptoms are worse than mine ( mine so far is just taste )

I hope you feel better. Let us know how the quarantine process is please.

  3. Hi - Fellow New Englander here from RI

Do you have a Passport Health near you? This is where you would go if you needed any vaccines or medications prior to travel (Africa, etc.). My husband recently had to get vaccines for travel to Panama and Africa, and they offered PCR tests for travel with a 30-45 min result time. He did have to pay (I don't remember the cost) but may be worth it if you cannot find any other options.

    Good luck!

Social media for crew. There are large social sites which include all cruise lines. Then there are sights specific to cruise lines. And then there are sites specific to ship. Most of the time you must be invited to join.

thank you! Sounds very informative if you are lucky enough to be asked to join.

This is not the overwhelming sentiment on crew social. I have not read one positive thing about wearing masks from the crew. Virtually all crew want the masking (and weekly testing) long gone. If crew social is to be believed, there are quite a few crew members willing to resign contracts once mandatory masks are eliminated.

Personally, I highly doubt 'most' crew will continue mask wearing when it isn't mandated.  Once the mandatory masks are eliminated for crew, we will have the answer.

    What is crew social?

Where will you be cruising to/from...?  We'll be doing a B2B in September (Vancouver/Seward/Vancouver) so we're wondering what the current testing protocols are, too.  Of course, we know they could change by then...but at least your report might give us some sense of what to expect...!

Have a great trip and enjoy...and will look forward to hearing your experience when you return...! 🙂

Miami - first leg is eastern Caribbean and second is western Caribbean.

I would think so, but know they are saying because I told them I was positive within the past 90 days they are going to cancel my cruise. Even if I was able to produce a negative test. I have a test result more than 10 days or more, but my doctors note won’t be, they said because they heard that they would have to cancel.

Where/when/how did you tell NCL you tested positive within the past 90 days?

I had covid late May and got a PCR test on June 4th - showed positive still and my doctor wrote the letter the next day.  I had emailed my doctor with the exact wording needed off the CDC website.  We leave July 3rd out of Southampton and I'm expecting (hoping) NCL will accept the test result and the doctor's letter.  The rest of our party will need to get rapid antigen tests when we land in England as we are coming in 3 days early.

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question - and I am absolutely not trying to be sarcastic (I truly am curious) ..... why would you not just take an Antigen test like everyone else?

Yes, that is correct.  The website says only unvaccinated kids under 12 need a PCR test. "All unvaccinated guests ages 2 through 11 will be required to bring proof of a negative NAAT test (i.e. PCR) result administered by a verified third party within three days prior to embarkation date."

So a PCR test would be okay for a vaccinated under 12 according to the NCL website.

Thank you for your reply. I read this as a vaccinated under 12 year old only needing an ANTIGEN test. You are saying the opposite? This is where I am getting confused and second guessing what is needed.

Just got back onto the ship to a table full. Strawberry’s, blts, gummy bears, m&ms, and about two pounds of grapes. I think the morning note will resolve the issues.

Our last cruise was on the Gem in the Garden Villa.  I am allergic to walnuts.  We told our Butler multiple times and I had it written down for him as well.  He delivered snacks with walnuts to our room not once, not twice, but three times!  After the first time, we politely reminded him.  After the second time, my husband went down and talked with Anoop (our fav concierge).  Unfortunately, after the third time, Anoop assigned us a new butler.  He could not have been more apologetic.  I understand preferences and allergies are two different things, but please don't feel funny about speaking to the concierge. It can be done in a non-hostile way and your issues can be resolved professionally.

Enjoy the rest of your cruise!

Being on the ship (the Bliss right this second) this is really the first time I’ve been anywhere in years where masks are not required - and very few people are wearing them. It’s so refreshing to actually see peoples’ full faces. And being lucky enough to be sailing again, and not having to wear a mask, you’d think people would be nicer or something. I’m a smiler - I smile at everybody. But nobody smiles back … I think it’s weird. Maybe they think I’m the weird one. 🤔

I am semi laughing at this post because I often found myself smiling at people the past 2 years from under my mask and then thinking how dumb I was because no one could see me 🤣

    Have a great cruise!

First of all, I certainly hope that COVID testing will be discontinued well before July. It’s already a silly requirement.

That being said, here’s how it works based on experience within the last month:

    • Take your boarding pass for the second cruise to Guest Services in the atrium a couple days before the end of the first cruise.
    • They’ll send an envelope to your cabin with an informational letter, luggage tags to transfer bags to your new cabin (if necessary), and an In Transit or Immig  sticker to wear on transition day (depending on your residency).
    • If they’re still doing them, you’ll go to the designated ship location on the last day of the first cruise for the virus testing. Wait about 10 minutes for the results and get a wristband if you’re negative.
    • On transition day morning, stop by Guest Services to get your key card for the second cruise.
    • Meet where the letter tells you at the time and place on transition day. They’ll escort all B2B passengers through security to check out and then either directly back to check into the second cruise or into the terminal to wait until everyone else has exited the ship. You’ll be among the first to reboard.
    • If you’re changing cabins, tag your stuff and leave it in the cabin - don’t put it in the corridor the night before. Stewards will move it to the new cabin.
    • You’ll benefit from a couple nice surprises. Unused internet minutes will roll over to the second week, as will unused onboard credit, since there’s a consolidated invoice for the entire stay.

Wow, thank you so much for this! Super helpful!!

That would be me. I don’t want to try to update a slew of CC boards, so I’ll post whatever updates I learn on the Joy roll calls for March 19 & 26, the two cruises on which I’m booked. Please look there for any future information I discover.

As of this moment, there’s no solid conclusion on whether it can be fixed before the March 19 departure or not. I’m sure that Engineering is inside the affected azipod right now (yes, they’re that big) trying to draw a conclusion or (hopefully) working on a repair.

All I know about the Escape is what’s been published elsewhere: it apparently ran aground in the Dominican Republic (sounds like a bad pilot to me) and is docked there. A check of the hull raised questions whether there was damage, so passengers with passports were flown back to the US. Local authorities reportedly won’t let those traveling with documents other than a passport leave, so they’re still aboard as of the last report I’ve seen. The March 19 cruise was canceled.

I noticed you are doing a back to back.  Would you mind updating on the procedure on the "transition" day?  The day where cruise 1 disembarks and cruise 2 embarks?  We are doing our first back to back in July on the Breakaway and I'm not sure on procedures, esp with Covid testing.  Thank you so much!

  14. Hi everyone!

If I want to upgrade to the premium wifi and premium plus drink packages and I want to use my onboard credits, do I have to wait until I board the ship, or can you do that ahead of time?

If you have to wait until you are on the ship, do you have to go to a desk to do either of these upgrades or can you do them on your device? (aka do I have to wait in a line to do this)

    Thank you!

Just got back yesterday from the Haven on Breakaway.   It was a great cruise except for the embarkation at NOLA.  I've neve experienced such a mess.   We were in line for over an hour to get to the NCL/Haven check in point.  There were at least three/four check points along the line.  We had to show our passports, vaccination records, boarding pass, and COVID tests at each one.  Each point only had one or two people doing the checks.  We had been assigned an 11-1130 check in time and we arrived at 1130.  The rest of the cruise was fantastic and we booked another cruise on Prima.

    Questions?

I'm glad the rest of your cruise was great!

Can you please tell me who the current concierge is on Breakaway? And also the maitre d in the Haven restaurant?

    Thank you so much!
