  1. A few days ago I was in an upscale NYC restaurant . There were signs stating that nobody would be allowed in wearing jeans ,shorts or sneakers .

I saw several women with sneakers ,one man with jeans and a few others with sneakers.Restaurants and cruise lines other than Cunard appear not to enforce everything these days .

On a RCI cruise earlier this year I saw men in specialty restaurants and the MDR wearing jeans.

You say that like it is shocking. I wear a t-shirt and Levi blue jeans everywhere (other than the shower and to bed). I have been on just 10 cruises so far and I have eaten at specialty dining for each meal on every ship. Never have I been turned away.

  2. Has anyone done the Cozumel Allegro Beach Resort day pass? We usually go to Nachi Cocum, but want to try something different. Mr. Sancho’s and Playa Mia seem too crowded.

I'm going to go way out on a limb and say YES someone has done that excursion! We enjoyed Mr Sanchos a lot, but Playa Mia was kind of nasty.

  3. Can someone advise if I purchased ins with the cruise line or Nation wide cruise ins would the

Essentials Travel Protection Plan I be a duplicate do we need both or just one . any help greatly appreciated thank you

No, no one can tell you that without reading the terms of the two specific policies you purchased. Read and you will have your answer.

  4. So you're saying because a few people will complain no matter what, NCL should cater to the lowest common denominator and withhold information from the reasonable majority. I disagree.

I neither said nor did I imply that, you are inferring it.

I am saying that there is no information to 'withhold' as it is all 100% irrelevant as the contract does indeed state that itinerary "FOR ANY PURPOSE". It does not ever mention that they need the approval of the passengers to do so.

  5. You are kidding me right.

We have been sailing NCL for many years but haven’t done so last or this because their suite prices have gone through the roof.

Just last night I had a look at next year doing the med in June. Put in my dates, chose an SE suite and when the price came back I thought ”that’s not bad £3,700 for seven nights,”. Until I realized that was for one person!

I think the person was saying they like the bid upgrade program. Using the bid system you can score a sweet cabin for an excellent price.

  6. With 26 days to go we got an offer to go from an H5 to either an H4 or an H2. I know that our sailing is showing SOLD OUT for all Haven -- and I get that isn't always 100%-- the line may have pocket rooms or whatever... We did not respond at all upon getting the email 3 days ago--and then each day following, we got another email from NCL. I am wondering--for some reason maybe do they REALLY want my specific room.... or is this just them trying to get a few more bucks for the highest bidder on maybe a room that was just canceled or something? I know there is no one who can tell me for sure an answer--but just wondering if anyone has gotten an offer to bid so close to sail date--and if they normally send daily emails about you bidding. We did bid $50 pp more than the minimum just to see what happens on the H4. We will be extremely happy either way. We will either keep a beautiful room with a giant balcony or gain the ease of more space in the cabin with a nicer bathroom (well 2 bathrooms) -can't go wrong either way. :-) Cheers!

    What is a pocket room?

  7. I was going to wait a couple more weeks hoping for an even lower fare, but decided that this is an incredible fare for a solo on a 15 night cruise, so 'pulled the trigger' today.

I booked an Inside GTY (IX), and I would be very happy to get what you got...Deck 5 near the elevator....but will be happy with whatever they give me, so long as it's on the ship....:D

I prefer closer to the elevator. Shorter distance to walk to my cabin!

  8. I don't think this is tin-foil-hat speculation. It would be stupid for NCL to *not* use this data for future pricing considerations. Any company that is not fully using the data willingly supplied to them by customers is not going to last long in the modern world.

It costs NCL nothing to take bids on sold out categories. But they get an idea of what customers are willing to pay by doing so. And they cover their bases in case of last minute cancellations.

Except the "they" you refer to is PlusGrade not NCL. Besides it DOES cost to take upgrades. NCL does not have the data, PlusGrade does. They run upgrade bidding for several companies. Visit http://www.plusgrade.com and you will see a list of their major clients. There is a big difference between what someone will bid for an upgrade and what they will spend to book that same cabin outright. NCL, like any other company that ever existed, will observe the sales volume at various price points to determine maximum revenue. That is common business 101. Not exactly what one would call data mining though.

  9. A few random thoughts to go with this:

I flew into FLL because it was cheaper by about $100 than Miami. I had to pay for a shuttle to get to port (more than what an Uber would have cost from a Miami hotel). Stayed in a worse hotel than I could have gotten in Miami for the same price. When it was time to go back to the airport, FLL will only let you through security 3 hours before your flight. Once on the other side, there is no lounge and no full service restaurant. All of the cruise ships dumping their passengers in FLL, Miami passengers who flew thru FLL because it was cheaper, every cruise line telling you not to book closer than 6 hours from disembarkation- makes for a LOT of passengers jammed up at FLL. Expect to spend some time sitting on the floor at baggage claim where the only wall plugs in the place are located. Now we're talking about spending $50 or so to rent a motel room from 8am-2pm because there's nowhere else to go. I implore you, take a look at flying out of Palm Beach or Miami as well. All told, you will likely get a better experience for the same or less money.

None of that seems random to me at all! :D

  10. So true. So my question: why the secrecy? Why not explain to the affected customers what happened? I know NCL is not required to explain anything, but a little proactive PR can go a long way.

What difference would it make? I'll help you , NONE. I promise you that no matter what the reason, one or more passengers would be screaming bloody murder that the reason was total BA. proof? The recent cruises that were diverted from Bermuda for safety concerns over the pending hurricane. Many folks actually came here and complained vigorously that since the storm changed course and never directly made landfall on Bermuda, NCL made a poor decision. Some even went so far to say as a result of that they should get some(if not all) of their money back. Going into any level of detail just opens up a huge can of worms.

  11. only unhappy because i had expectations of I1 or I2 because i thought all other insides were not available. (did mock bookings)

if i knew other cabins were in play, i would have waited to book.

will only spend more $ if the balcony gty drops to around the same price as my inside gty :p

You knew you could get ANY cabin ANYWHERE on the ship. That was fully disclosed. You read into the situation facts that were not there is what happened.

  12. Hi there!

I'm in a Haven 2-bedroom suite on the Escape and I received an e-mail to upgrade to the Deluxe Owner's Suite. However when I try to book the Deluxe Owners Suite through the website it says it's sold out.

So, why are they asking me to bid if the room is already sold out? Either the program doesn't consider booked rooms or the rooms are reserved to bid on?

    Thanks!

Or you don't understand the bidding process and what can impact available cabins.

    1) People cancel cruises.

    2) People other than you bid and win upgrades.

    3) People change cabins by paying for upgrades, etc.

    4) TA's return unsold cabins they had on hold.

    Is that enough?

  13. didnt think i was roilling the dice since the only categories with rooms listed in mock boolings were I1 and I2..

else i would have waited. :(

Irrelevant. As others can cancel or do a paid upgrade for example. What is listed as available at the time you book has nothing at all to do with the cabin you will end up with. Booking a sail away inside means you could end up in any cabin of any type anywhere on the ship.

  14. 15day Breakaway for $569 (+port fees/taxes) for an inside gty.

when i booked 4days ago, the only categories available were IF, I1, I2.

every other inside category was listed as sold out.

and mock booking IF didnt have any rooms available so i thought i was going to get a I1 or I2.

    Thus i booked.

looked today on myncl and i got assigned an IE on the 5th floor near the elevators. :o

    W T F?

If IE was listed as sold out on ncl's website at the time of booking, how did i wind up with an IE cabin?

(IE is still listed as sold out.)

    edit:

for those that say bids, the cruise isnt sailing for another 30days.

Bids dont get awarded till around a week before sail.

so cabins didnt open up because of a successful bid and that person moved to a higher category

The key words are "when I booked".

Bids can get awarded from the very second they open up until two days before the cruise. Your edit comment is false.
