  1. The point most people are making is that it’s not $250 back. It’s a $250 discount. “$250 back” to most people means a $250 gain.

     

    You do not pay $250 and get $500 in certificates AND $250 OBC. You pay $500, get $500 in certificates and a $250 credit. So, you net pay $250 and you owe it because it is on your statement. You’re not making money. You don’t have more OBC to spend on other things. It’s been spent on the certificates.

     

    Your statement will be $250 higher after the transactions. It is not $250 lower.

     

    The one advantage people miss is that one certificate is a deposit for a cabin. Usually, there is a deposit per person.

    Your statement will be $250 higher and you will have $500 worth of vouchers. You are making $250.

  3. What happens is that the cost of the certificate(s) is charged to your Folio, say $500 for 2. Immediately a credit of $250 for those is credited to the Folio.

     

    If you think logically all that means is that you are paying $250 for the two certificates.

     

    However by NCL calling it OBC they are trying to con you into spending that on the boat so not using it to decrease the original cost.

     

     

    They call it OBC because it IS OBC. No one is trying to con anyone into anything. Besides you are not on a boat you are on a ship!

  4. Chrome, as time goes on, gets cranky. It's not that the websites have to be "optimized for Chrome" (whatever that means) as much as it is the longer you use Chrome for a website, more and more "stuff" gets stored in Chrome's cache, application cache and cookies. Chrome does a bad job of clearing this out.

    It also does not comply with all of the CSS and W3C standards for rendering pages.

  5. Just to make sure I understand.... NCL will use the non-refundable OBC first and then the actually bought refundable OBC?

     

     

    Yes non-refundable OBC is applied first but remember that it cannot necessarily be applied to all charges (such as DSC).

  6. For me the "mystery" has been solved. For the first time in forever I was able to navigate the NCL website without running into countless error pages and mishandled redirects.

     

    All I had to do was switch browsers. I realize this is generally a recommended fix for temporary problems --- but come on: this seems to be only a problem with Google Chrome and has been happening for years.

     

    The site is clearly not optimized for Chrome, which is shocking to me as it's preferred by so many. It's frustrating having to revert to IE for the NCL website only, but I don't seem to have a choice.

     

    Chrome is a non-compliant browser. Programmers will and should not code for a browser that does not follow convention.

  7. I'm with OP here. Having just finished a cruise with 29 other family members, I have to say that NCL's web site is among the worst designed I've seen. It took ages to get everyone registered and signed on to the site. At least half the group wound up calling their service to get it cleared up.

    Entering your information is fussier than other cruise sites.

    Once finished, finding the place to download the boarding documents and luggage tags is not clear for those of us less savvy in such things.

    It could do with an overhaul.

     

    You mean a like that says "download e-docs" is not clear?

  8. I will try revisiting my cart every few minutes, that may just be the step I've been missing.

     

     

     

     

    The whole point of my frustration is the popup '5 minute warning', And this may well be a browser issue, but no matter which way I tried to interact with that warning popup (The X in the upper right corner, or the "Continue" button in the middle), I suffered having my page reset. Leaving me to navigate through several pages to find where I was before the popup.

     

    I use Firefox, but I will try Chrome and Opera when I get back to NCL again.

     

    I use FF and have zero issue.. Chrome is a horrid browser with an utterly horrid UI and it is is not 100% compliant.

  9. Im confused or could be misising something- why would it matter when it appears in the ship account. You dont technically pay for anything till the last day - your debits just add up then the OBC would credit against them.

     

     

    With a DC they process holds sometimes daily or more often as you spend. They do not "just add up".

  10. First time cruiser and I was wondering if it would be worth buying OBC before embarkation? We do not have any credit cards so would it make it easier to pay for things on the ship with OBC verses the hold they would put on our debit card?

     

    We aren't big drinkers, or gamblers so I was thinking maybe $100-$200 max. We already have excursions, tips, and specialty dining covered.

    I think you answered your own question. In the end is it "worth it" to you is all that matters. BTW you do not have 'tips' covered, you have the DSC covered. Using a DC is a total PITA. Use cash.

  11. I was told to register my CC when I arrived at the port and that way my friend and I can each have our own separate accounts. They said that online only one CC could be registered. I know that this is not your situation but it's OK to register your card when you arrive.

     

     

    You can set up individual accounts with the on line system as well. Whoever "they" are were wrong.

  12. So I got an email from NCL telling me I need to go ahead and check in (we are 58 days out from our trip). And that I have to give them my CC. That's fine....less I have to bother with at the port. So I go on NCL and enter all 4 passports. It asks me for my CC info that I'm going to use, so I entered that. I only authorized myself and my wife on the card; we never give the kids charging privileges because who know what that would lead to, especially if they found the arcade. Now, however, it says that their checkins are not complete. Is that right? Is it going to cause a problem when we do cruise? What if someone wanted to set up a cash account?

     

    I checked in my parents-in-law, and it says they are 100% complete and they would receive an email when their eDocs were ready to print.

     

    The CC info thing is being phased in. We just had it added to out 11/16 cruise a day or two ago. As for the kids, if it REQUIRES you to enter payment info just enter that they will eb using cash. Then at the port explain that they will not have purchasing privileges.

  13. This wasn't on a cruise but during our recent stay in the Seychelles, our room had a connecting door to the room next to ours. The showers in both rooms were adjacent to the connecting door and you could hear everything. The first night, someone took a shower at 11:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. Thought, "O.K., they have an early flight." Happened again on the second night as well as the third. Only two people in the room and it seemed to be the male who was doing the showering.

     

     

     

    What does ANY of that have to being an obnoxious neighbor?
