I was disappointed in the new menu this month on the Crown...I preferred the old one (I can't eat shelfish so my options are limited), but some things were good: I missed the specialty Sabatinis rolls with rosemary sprigs (so delicious), instead there were generic ones (good enough but not special): the arancini were also a sad replacement for the zonzelle & prosciutto as the opener: the insalata was perhaps the best thing I ate there, absolutely delicious: my BIL liked the soup & crouton (served on a separate plate) also: I couldn't find an antipasti that I wanted to try, but my family liked the frito misto (although apparently, they couldn't come up with a sauce that didn't have peppers in it for my sissy): primi: the two seafood dishes were good but the spaghetti was way aldenti secundi the Branzino was good: ossobuco was good but giant serving of risotto was gummy & unpleasant: chicken scallopini (no photo) was really rubbery desserts: the chef' s specialty is fun, but the plating was very disappointing compared to previous incarnations (glass goblets rather than the bowls you find in the buffet) the menus: I know that many people are very excited by the new menu, but for me it is just kind of sad...also the last 2 times we have eaten there we have been disappointed (2 different ships, once the old menu & once the new one)

absurd...that is going to be my current word for all the strange things princess does...i.e. it is absurd that we can't ever know what to expect because what is true on one ship or the same ship yeasterday may not be true here & now or it is absurd that [fill in with the most recent]

that only works when you are not attached to ships intra/internet...onboard you can only see your current cruise on the app

well...that's just not the Princess way of doing things....

not on your booking, but a few suggestons: one place the lines get long are at the guest services desk, you can often avoid this by using crew chat in the app instead or go late night/early morning your travel summary will tell you how many formal nights you will have, generally they will be on sea days but not always have you joined the roll call for your cruise? that will be a great place to connect with others on your cruise remember that American's are not always as good at ques as others & bring some patience hope you have a wonderful cruise

Sea Day~March 12 Wrap Up & Random Thoughts Does anyone else feel tempted to color on this wall…like a life-size coloring book? I didn’t try any or get a menu to post, but they had special drinks available for the Oscars at various locations & a whole lot of Oscar related trivia & events. I noticed that we had been given a small credit for refunded port taxes. We are enjoying watching the enrichment talks that we missed on the way out..well, actually the naturalist & port talks which are related to Hawai’i & our trip; haven't found any of the others that we were interested in (music & art mostly). Clock turned forward again tonight, sigh…the one thing I liked about living in Arizona was not having to do daylight savings & here we are on vacation basically doing it 3 times in 4 days!! …& here are the menus for the MDR lunch we didn’t go to… ...tomottow...surprises!... Sea Day~March 12 DaVinci Dinner & A Show Starters: Chinese pork dumplings (quite good), Ligurian pesto pasta (very good) Entrees: breaded lemon sole Colbert with tarragon butter (something I would not have normally ordered but really good), seared diver scallops with apple-ginger chutney (good), roast beef with Yorkshire pudding & gravy (good but a lot of food...sorry it's blurry, it must have moved) Desserts: frozen chocolate praline torte The bears (BIL & I too) went to see their new friend Jorge in Sweet Soul Music which was lively & fun. It was my favorite of the four production shows on this cruise. On the way to the theater, they stopped to get their photo taken by one of the ship’s photographers! you can save $3 if you are 62 or older or military/veteran...you can search online for coupon codes to use on their website I see some out there, but don't personally know if they are good or not

as people have said, very easy, good signage & people out directing traffic...we are local so have family drop us & luggage off with a porter (usually one they know) we don't travel light, so the porter will help unload from our vehicle onto their cart & we are good to go...

Sea Day~March 12 More Moments at Sea The bears went to crafting so that Ruby could be fitted with her lei po’o (head lei) & I also finished her lei. The boys brought their ‘ukuleles & straw leis I had learned to make on our last Hawai'ian cruise. After Leialoha helped finish Ruby’s leis, they took pictures together. Then the bears met Jorge, who has been helping Leialoha & Tiki Dave with crafting. He is one of the dancers & invited them to come to the evening production show. For lunch we went back to the Salty Dog Grill & this time I remembered to get photos of the food. The tacos were especially good, the burger was very well done (as in maybe overcooked & dry) & the pulled pork was missing the slaw, but the fries were much better. Since it was now warm out, it was much more crowded poolside than earlier in the cruise so we were fortunate that someone offered us their table as they were leaving. I didn't miss the rain, sick or not the pup still needs to be take outside...fortunately she doesn't fight going out when it is raining like her aunt did...

the room steward will generally introduce themselves to you, usually on the first day as you are getting into the room or as you leave for dinner, you can share any special requests with them (we need a sharps container for example & I always say that we like ice for one room but it is not needed for the other) they will often give you or leave in the room a small card with their name & how to contact them, you can also use crew chat to contact them or just see them in the hall mornings & evenings. you will get a single page/two sided paper each day with the events for the next day it will show what is happening & I find it easier to review than the app which requires a lot of scrolling up & down & back & forth...there should be some kind of show in the theater each night (probably on the formal night will be a production show by the princess singers & dancers, other nights might be guest entertainers which would be musicians of some sort, comedians or magicians, if there is a recent 'live' from the Ruby you might see what they have been doing...usually the shows will be around 7:30 & 9:30 (same show), guest entertainers will often do a different show in one of the other venues on another night...there will be more opportunities than you can probably do each day/evening so it is good to check the schedule the evening before & mark what you want (I take a highlighter just for that purpose) also watch the wake show on the TV the evening before & they will often highlight things you might want to do (depending on the cruise director this will be more or less helpful) here are photos of the laundry room on the Crown earlier this month which should not be terribly different from the Ruby's (I also have photos of the daily schedules...which would be different because it was a Hawai'i cruise but if you want to see what they look like on my current live from our cruise) have a lovely time...one suggestion, try the various included food venues (dining room, buffet, room service, poolside, international cafe) early in your cruise to see what you like so you don't discover a favorite the last day & wish you had more chances to eat there

On the Crown earlier this month that is what I was told when I asked in the Internet Cafe....single day was $20 for one device...I already had a plan, so I don't have experience that it is true, but I would expect that the manager there would know the cost.

Wrap Up & Random Thoughts The only way this Hawai’ian itinerary works for you is if you really like sea days! The thought that we have so many days of enjoying the ship, letting someone else do the dishes, cook, make the bed etc. left is wonderful. Even though we live by the ocean, there is something very special about days of looking at these views from our balcony. The form to request our disembarkation group was due today & we set our clocks forward for the first of three times (an extra because of daylight savings time). I did ask at the Effy store & they are no longer giving away bracelets & charms. so I guess the ones that Ruby & my sissy have are special. Sea Day~March 11 Formal Night & DaVinci Dinner This was the second formal night of the cruise & officially the white & gold night although I didn’t notice much participation in that. Sea Day~March 11 Patter, Weather, Progress & Photo of the Day The rolling motion from the previous night continued, sometimes feeling like the ship was going in a circular motion (maybe doing the hula?). I have been asked about how the air conditioning is on the Crown. We were able to keep comfortable with the control set in the mid range for most of the trip so far & our time in the islands. I feel like the ac on ships doesn’t really work well when docked? I find if I take a thermometer, it helps as I can see what the actual temperature is & know if it is actually hot or cold or just me. I also travel with a portable fan for the bedside table as I find that sometimes I just need more air movement. Sea Day~March 11 Another Day at Sea Starting the trip back home to LA there is not so much new to write about. We have found our routine, my sissy gets to decide whether we go to breakfast in the buffet where she loves their oatmeal (but she never knows if she needs to get a spoon or if it will be included in the silverware wrap on the table) or in the MDR where she gets to have eggs benedict (not on the menu but always available if you ask or for lunch where they are part of the brunch section each day). I am a fan of the omelet station but am fine with breakfast at either place or the International Cafe where they have lovely muffin/quiche things & pastry. Strangely they have a better selection of meats & cheeses to make sandwiches in the buffet for breakfast than at lunch time...it is hard to figure out what their plan actually is. Today they handed out tickets for the flower lei making class for this afternoon or tomorrow. Next, I went to Leialoha’s craft class where I finally finished my first crocheted lei (most of the people who started with me or even after me had done several by now) & started one for Ruby bear. Then the flower lei making class. Lunch in the buffet is relatively limited in variety but they do consistently have a nice salad bar selection which I really appreciate. It is often hard for my sissy to find things without peppers that she can eat & they have been less than helpful in assisting her even though they have large signs at the buffet warning that things can have allergens & to ask for assistance. They will maybe tell her 3 or 4 things she can eat, rather than going around & helping her find something she can eat & would actually enjoy...another area where it feels like there is not the staffing they used to have. Most days though, it is still a better choice for us than the MDR & sadly this cruise the International Cafe has only the same sandwiches each day & none are outstanding. This was today's lunch menu (we didn't go). oh, thank you both...I got past the post cruise vertigo (I don't have much trouble on board, maybe a little weaving walking the first day or two, but often after a longer cruise it takes awhile for the land to stop rocking) & had pretty much everything written to post & find the photos for, when CC wouldn't let me in!! & then a couple of days pretty much wiped out with a cold (or snot monster invasion--tests for the other thing were negative) feeling mostly functional now, so will be back tonight or tomorrow with the trip home!

There is nothing right at the port, but there are free shuttles into downtown & I am pretty sure to Walmart. If you get off in the morning (say by 10 or 11, maybe even noon) there is a greeting table where they will tell you what to see & do in town...I took the free shuttle in & the farmers market van back & there was shopping right there by the stops....hope you have a wonderful trip...we were sad to miss out on Samoa, Tahiti etc in 2020.

Hilo~March 10 Wrap Up & Random Thoughts It was a delightful day in Hilo. As we left there was much more rocking motion from side to side. It was bad enough that the swinging of the bathroom door kept turning on the motion activated night light so we had to be sure that we kept the door shut so that the light wouldn’t keep waking us all night long.
