  1. Who says that everyone on a cruise is on a VACATION. I myself am a entrepreneur. I cruise because I can. I cruise whenever I want. And my cruising lifestyle is nothing like the people I have met. Meaning they all cruise way more often than I do. I was even introduced to two Ambassadors this season on top of the cruisers I have bumped into before on past cruises. I will be taking my 12th seven day cruise in the last year on NCL next week on the Bliss. Another great price with no supplement. Able to book one week out if that is where I want to go at the best price. And any extra perks are welcomed. Maybe one day you will be able to cruise and not be on VACATION because your life needs a break.

    MY LIFE IS A VACATION:D

    Ok

  2. I was checking three times a day. It paid off when I was able to direct upgrade from a MS w/lrg balcony to a Haven Courtyard PH for half of what I had bid. The price dropped $500pp on the afternoon of July 4th, I upgraded first thing on July 5th, and the price went back up $300pp on July 7th. Timing is everything.

My coworker checks airline ticket prices every day. If the price goes down she calls and receives credit toward a future flight (with Jet Blue).

  3. And the mystery is now solved.

Just had a call from NCL from the person they emailed yesterday. She hotfooted into the office once she saw the email. Apparently she was doing some testing with my TA (the largest "cruise" TA in the UK) on a booking some time in the next few months, and they happened to pick mine, and they "forgot" to undo the purchases that they made during the testing.

Mrs Frog upset she's not now getting the 75 minute Bamboo Massage.

It seems like you should get some OBC for being the lucky winner.

  4. Go back to HR and make them check what happens if you get sick "on the high seas". The employee getting the bends was in a covered country when the problem happened. It is common for the few regular medical insurance policies that cover you "in other countries" to exclude any claim that happens "on the high seas" and out of the jurisdiction of any of their partner countries.

Wouldn't you be under the jurisdiction of the flag the ship is sailing under, i.e. the Bahamas?

  5. I don't understand why people are so worried about the cancellation and interruptions part of the travel insurance. The worst that will happen is that you don't go the cruise and you lose the money. Don't get me wrong, you should have insurance that covers the cost of the cruise and some sort of trip interruption. Losing the cost of the cruse is just losing money you've already spent.

What is going make an impact into the family fortune are the medical and repatriation. These costs can hit six figures depending on what your condition is and where you need to be evacuated from. I became severely ill in Mexico and the wonderful doctors made it even worse. I had a five day hospital bill of $28,000 and repatriation of $40,000. Luckily, I didn't need a private plane or it would have been close to $100,000. My Allianz policy covered everything.

Foreign hospitals charge you full price and most do not negotiate so you better have travel insurance.

I've said for years that anyone traveling outside of the country is a fool for not having travel insurance with at least $100,000 in medical and repatriation and I stand by that.

BTW: Most credit card travel insurance, including Chase Sapphire Preferred and Reserve and Amex Platinum do not cover pre-existing conditions. I have Chase Preferred and Amex Platinum and just today when I called Chase for another issue, they went over the benefits of Reserve and it doesn't cover pre-existing.

    Take care,

    Mike

If you truly received repatriation, you would not be here to tell us about it.

  6. So I don't typically buy travel insurance because I don't have health issues and only make travel reservations with money that I can afford to lose if an extreme emergency happened.

This new offer is pretty cheap and has a decent chunk of coverage for medical/evacuation. My Blue Cross plan supposedly works when out of the country, however I am considering buying for added protection in case of a freak accident or medical event.

What are your thoughts on this new offer?

  7. As the wife of a chief engineer I never got the interest in the officers. They are just regular people who happened to go to school to run a ship. Trust me, they put their pants on one leg at a time just like everyone else. And leave them on the floor to be picked up. :)

A man in uniform for a woman is like a woman in lingerie for a man. :D Or maybe it's just me? ;p

But seriously, they do have jobs which the average person doesn't encounter too often and that makes them interesting.
