  1. DH and I are booked on the October, 14 day cruise from Boston to the Eastern Caribbean. We deliberately booked an outside on deck 5, just to $ave money. Our friends who will be cruising with us have done the same thing.

I upgraded from inside to obstructed oceanview on deck 8. I think that was cheaper than the portholes lower.

  2. I booked my February 2019 cruise on the Bliss in January of 2018. I was charged 124.60 pp or 249.20 for the 20% gratuity based on 89.00 pp per day for the package if paid for. There was a 25.00 pp OBC also, maybe that is where you got your 100 pp instead of 125 pp.

Sorry, my mistake. It was October 1, 2017 when the beverage package grat increased to $125/pp for 7 days.

Prior to that date, it was 100 pp. The daily service charge increased April 1st.

  3. If you upgrade after a promo gratuity increase, you pay the prevailing or current rate on the "free at sea" promos. I realized this only after closer inspection of my bill.

In my case, I still came out ahead, but if you are the type to do the math, it is a factor to consider.

And I did call to get the original rate honored, or receive obc, but it was a no go. I am sure they realized that I already had a good deal going.

  4. Good Advice! My sister just got off the Bliss last Saturday, they did not plan ahead. By the time they were onboard, 11:30a.m., gokarts, laser tag, Jersey Boys and most of the excursions they had been looking at were already fully booked. It was their first time on a 4,000 passenger ship, lesson learned.

I am booked on the Bliss for 9/22-29, and just an fyi if you book Teppanyaki for the 5:30 seating you will not be able to book the 7:30 show for Jersey Boys online. It's billed as a 2hr dining experience ending at 7:30pm and the computer says you have a conflict with another item scheduled for that time. We'll need to hurry once onboard to get our theater tickets!

You should call and have them take care of it now to save you the hassle.

  5. I believe the confusion surrounding the amount of apps/desserts included in specialties may lie with the fact that Platinum level cruisers receive vouchers that entitle them to one app, one entree, and one dessert at certain specialty restaurants. Sometimes the staff is generous and allows them to order extra apps/desserts at no additional charge.

If you are using an SDP meal, not a voucher, you should be able to order as many apps and desserts as you want without being charged more.

  6. Your math is off a bit. The 20% gratuities are 125 pp or 250 per couple for a 7 day cruise, not 400.

If you booked your cruise before April 1st, 2018 it is $100 per person or $200 per couple for a 7 day cruise.

And yes, the Sky has a different drink menu with added charges for some drinks that are included with the UBP on the other ships.

  7. I am looking at this exact option on our Holland America cruise. HAL offers an excursion for $50 which does the 1 3/4 hour ride around town first and THEN you can move over to the Hop On Hop Off option OR return to the ship (same price by the way). So, you might want to research the Royal C excursion a bit more to see if it matches the HAL one. If not, I definitely would just purchase the Old Town Trolley town (for $40 online). Only bad thing, is no refunds on the Old Towne tour (have one year to use) if the ship skips the port or weather is bad, etc.

You could purchase the OTT tix the same day alternatively.

  8. They showed the Thursday night football first Patriots game last year on the Dawn. It was on a big screen in the atrium. All three levels were packed with fans. I would post a picture but my pics are all too big for this website.

  9. Ohhhhhh.... that's interesting and very useful information! We are sailing out of Boston to Bermuda and I was hoping to catch the Pat's vs Texans game at 1pm. However, 1pm is the docking time so...based on the information about how much it'll cost NCL, maybe I shouldn't get my hopes up.. hmmm. Sigh. Oh well, at least it's just the 1st game and not a super important one! Thanks for your info!

Maybe research if they show the game somewhere in Bermuda. Perhaps a hotel bar?

  10. Hi everyone,

I'm sailing on the Norwegian Dawn in a week (very excited)! I was looking at the dailies from late May that someone posted in another thread. It looks like in the mornings, they frequently have something called Cardio Dance Class in Oasis poolside. Has anyone done this and could let me know how it was?

I'm looking to keep up with my exercise on the cruise (since I'm going to eat so much!). I'm a regular in my gym's zumba class, but I'm a little self conscious and this sounds like it might be out in the open, rather than in a studio or gym room.

On the Dawn last Sept I attended a cardio class held around 9am in the Bliss lounge. It was generic cardio moves, not too difficult and good to get some exercise in.

I also did a "Salsa" class around 5pm in Bliss that was really more like Zumba.

There is also plenty of "line dancing" or cruise director led aerobic dancing on the pool deck starting with sail away onward. No need to feel self conscious as everyone is just trying to have a fun time.

    Eat, drink and dance!!

  11. The crowd is mostly from Boston. If they show a game, it will likely be the Patriots vs Texans at 1pm Sunday. But if this is the Bermuda cruise, you will be in port so they might not bother. It costs NCL over $30,000 per game.

  12. That was so tragic!

(Also a bit worrisome. Have they figured out who/why yet?)

IF Cosol isn't re-organized yet (or if they don't; I have no idea), you might try SERENITY TOURS.

We've used them twice already on two different cruises, and we have plans with them again for our next cruise calling at St. Lucia.

They are wonderful about customizing for private tours. They'll organize it however it works for "you".

    Among the very best, anywhere!

Unidentified shooter. Based on the locals comments, it sounded to be motivated by greed and jealousy.

  13. The sun will be setting by 6 p.m. on our cruise on NCL It seems like a wasted stop if the only thing one can do is hit a restaurant and bars, especially with the "free" perks on the ship. Is there any recognition of this by NCL or maybe they just don't not care. Anyone here sailed on NCL and experienced this? I could not find any excursions for our cruise which makes sense I guess. Am I missing something?

NCL is still working on their San Juan excursions. Our daytime port call only has 3 listed right now. They will be adding more as well as evening excursions.
