  1. Amongst all this angst and pain is a contributing factor that hasn't been mentioned. When something goes on "sale" for a large volume of internet users seeking the same items at the same time (i.e. 120 days out), the site can become overloaded causing slow speeds and errors. This can happen whether you are NCL, ESPN, the U.S. govt., or even Amazon. The problems could also be exacerbated depending on your internet provider or if you are on wifi at home.

If you are truly having trouble with your booking, as I have on occasion, you should call NCL and let them do it for you.

Even my TA had to recently on my behalf because a specific cabin appeared to be available on both the NCL and the TA website, yet it wouldn't allow the booking. It had to be cleared in the system in some manner behind the scenes. After the phone call, the problem was fixed.

Is it perfect? No. But it is a reasonable solution.

  2. I thought if you don't use the excursion credits they simply disappear? Are you saying that if you don't use them, they will refund you the money after the cruise?

NCL will credit your onboard account after you actually go on an excursion up to $50 per port. If you had prepaid and don't spend the full amount of the shore excursion credit you earned actually going on excursions by disembarkation, NCL will mail you a check in the value you earned but did not spend.:o:halo:

  3. But even better than that, she offered to simply refund my credit cards now while retaining my reservations and I can pay on board, which I gladly accepted.

I hope lots of people see this and are able to get the same thing. It would save any hassles.

I do too as there has been much discussion, but no clear answers other than to read the terms. After the phone call, I promptly received an updated confirmation email with the prices removed and the bottom now stating "All shore excursions will be charged to your onboard account."

If you ever get a call center person that cannot accomplish this, ask for the supervisor.

  4. After already purchasing shore excursions, I received the shorex credit perk with an upgraded cabin. So I called the shorex number to reserve the rest of my excursions and inquire about the credit. The rep said I had to pay for all the excursions now since I had already paid for some, but that I will receive the per port obc after taking each excursion. Basically, she explained that I could have just reserved them without paying had I not already paid for any--that you could only have one payment method. I agreed to this and prepaid them all.

After reviewing the terms and comments on CC, I became nervous that the per port credit would be nonrefundable.

So I just called again today and the shorex rep was the best! She confirmed that the credit received after completing your shoreex is refundable obc. If I didn't spend it all onoboard I would receive a check in the mail after my cruise. I belabored this point as there had been conflicting info posted here. She reassured me.

I would prefer to credit the excursions rather than finding items to spend the credit on. And I plan on prepaying the dsc as it has increased since booking.

I guess I will call and cancel the excursions to get a refund. Then I will rebook them all by calling again.

    So silly.

Then again, rather than going through this charade, I could choose not to

prepay the dsc and use the credit towards it. With only a bill increase of $14, it may be worth it just to leave my shorex prepaid.

  6. I actually just called, since I was panicking that I had booked them online and I have the shorex credit. the rep told me that if I booked it online and paid in full, that after the excursion, they would *still* refund the credit as OBC.

  7. One thing on that list that sounded yummy was a Mudslide. I think it is well-known so that's what I have on my "try it" list. We've never been willing to pay outright for a beverage package and I'm a total lightweight, so traveling with the package included in the deal this time is going to be interesting.

Be sure to try a Bushwacker or 5. They are like mudslides but even better!;)

  8. TAs are worthless unless you like saving money and getting extra OBC!

I use one of the big online cruise TAs, and save considerable money every time. Looking at my 12 night SC on Gem this November, my online TA is giving me a price of 1319 for a BB balcony, but NCL wants 1569. If I called my agent at this company, she would get me a group rate, and I would save even more. At the time I booked with her, I paid 1164. They always give OBC too. $175 for my upcoming cruise.

So saving 770 over NCL's current pricing for this cruise, plus the OBC, I find it worthwhile. Why do people shop at BJ's and Sam's? Because they have buying power.

So true! I booked my next 14 day cruise in an inside cabin back in September. This week I was rechecking prices as final payment is nearing and I realized that I could upgrade to an obstructed oceanview a few doors away for less than $300 total. This gave me a second perk now too. But beyond that, the TA is running a promotion offering an Extra perk and receive double the gift card value for all new bookings.

So effectively I could cancel and rebook only losing $125 in a TA cancel fee. Net would be that I come out ahead because the perks are worth more than that.

Well, rather than cancel and rebook the TA said she would check with NCL and see if they would just give me a third perk.

Wooo hooo, they did!!! An upgrade to Obstructed Oceanview and 2 additional perks (3 total) for only around $260 more. So now I get drinks, dining, and shorex! :D

But yeah, TAs are worthless.

  9. No, the machines don’t know the difference between day 7 of one cruise and day 1 of the next cruise. That would require all the chips in the machines to be “reprogrammed” during turnover and again during the cruise.

    Thanks!

What about the table games? Any differences in minimums or payouts in the beginning vs end?
