  1. Like a previous poster said there is no normal weather in Boston. This year in early June a lot of days in the low sixties, but who knows you could get one of those 80s days also. Best bet is prepare for anything.

This! May and June can be any temp and weather on any given day. It generally does not get consistently hot until late June/early July. The only guarantee is that if you plan to walk the Freedom Trail on the 4th of July, it will feel like 100F out. ;p

  2. While YOU may be spending less onboard, the entire point of the article (something that is also mentioned in NCLH's annual reports) is that onboard spending is increasing. So my point still stands. With all of the free drinks, and all of the free meals, and all of the OBC that the previous poster mentioned, what is causing people to actually INCREASE their spending over and above what they used to spend when all of those things were NOT included??

Sorry, but the entire point of the article is that NCL passengers are spending more on board per day than RCCL and CCL passengers per day.

While I have no doubt that onboard spending on NCL has been increasing over time, the article was not about that.

So the question is why do NCL passengers spend more on board than RCCL and CCL passengers?

-There are more specialty dining options

    -Shore excursions cost more

-Drinks cost more without a package

    -Drink packages cost more

    -Deal or No Deal available

    ....to name a few

    Other considerations...

    -Spa and Vibe pass sales

    -Spa prices

-Number of high rolling gamblers onboard

And a big one noone mentioned...

The Haven could be attracting a higher income demographic with more disposable income. On my Boston to Bermuda cruise, people were buying the Tom Brady Tag Heuer watch. I also know for a fact that one account spent nearly $50,000 on art.

  3. I'm so torn with what to do. We live in sunny Florida :D The weather is a concern. I'm not sure if you know, but is this typical of Bermuda cruise weather in early June? I saw 59 degrees on a couple of your dailies. We will be in hats and scarves in that kind of weather LOL Our sailing is for June 2nd of next year.

I would book a later date if I were you.

  4. I have noticed (and chatted with) solos at different events and on excursions. Like you, they are not on the ship solo, however they show up by themselves for all different reasons (the others in their party have no interest, conflicting interests, or are unable to participate).

You will run into them over and over again. You will have a great time!

  5. Reading this makes me look forward to my cruise even more. I have one question. What time does disembarking begin and if you do self disembarking can you be off the ship by 9:30? I am trying to schedule a car service to pick us up. DH does not like to drive in Boston. If he left me with the luggage while he went to park I may never see him again! LOL! We will save alot of anxiety and stress this way.

FYI: The parking lot is right next to the ship.

  6. Okay, just to play devil’s advocate.....just how diligent will everyone be with their straw cleaning? Are you bringing dish soap? Going to use hand soap? You won’t be able to see all the goo and mold in a metal straw....

Rather than carrying around a straw that I might forget or might drip all over I think I might just carry an insulated tumbler that has a straw and dump my drinks in it...

Then again, is anyone just bringing their own packages of disposable ones?

MTs think alike. I had been waiting for this post. Micro tech too? :champagne-toast:

  7. In addition NCL offered NO OBC and I am a NCL gold member . I guess its a wash if they had no promos but then added OBC. I don't like that I am already paying near $300 additional gratuities on a drink and specialty dining package that I did not want. One savings I did get was the 3rd and 4th person sails for free. Where I hit a snag is the 5th person

My PCC told me she will change deals if over the next year anything new or better is offered. I have nothing to lose, right :o

I have never taken a cruise without getting OBC from NCL. I always book directly with them. So that tells me they are bottom line pricing. Even my first NCL cruise I got $40 OBC

Even with an inside cabin, you would receive OBC and/or a giftcard by booking with a travel agency.

  8. He was on a long (UK Bank Holiday) weekend. Thanks. Sometimes sad but never lonely.

I'm back, and would like to thank everybody for their valued input.

not a troll, haven't read the nickel & Diming thread so can't comment.

I will pack a first aid kit. Thanks.

Thanks again to everybody who has offered me some constructive advice.

We do have UBP (we like a drink)

    We have paid DSC (gratuities)

I've done my research and don't think we'll need any NCL excursions

We will eat at the speciality restaurants. Just not every night. (might look at Speciality Dining Package once on board)

    I won't buy photos

I will use the casino occasionally - cash only.

    :D

Regarding the photographers, they are actually very good. If you haven't taken any nice, formal photos recently, it is a great opportunity as they have various backdrops and props (benches, chairs, columns, etc.) each evening and will do a free mini photo session.

Obviously a seasoned cruiser would not need to partake, but it can be a special occasion otherwise.:)

  9. What do you want from a beach?

Peace and quiet away from T'erds (Towles and Herds)

Shabby chic with Lunch and drinks away from T'erds

    Beach toys with T'erds

    No toys with T'erds

The two you are considering are no toys with T'erds

Since you post the saying so often, you may want to know the word is towels. Towels and herds.

  10. This thread is akin to asking if it is worth it to buy a larger house because you can afford it and it makes you happier than buying a smaller house that gives you more money to spend in other ways. It is really a matter of what makes you happy. If you are happy in an inside, you will be impressed by a suite but you may not gain much additional happiness. It all boils down to priorities. For me, it is not worth it because the experience is truly not that special.
