So to be fair.. Ron does actually work with a very reputable life insurance company. I cannot say the name per se on these boards but I will tell you this. The insurance company only works with very high net worth clients.. up until a few years ago they would never advertise and only existed through a very influential referral. If one was to ever receive a call from this company it simply means you have “made it” and were a captain of your industry.. a pillar in your community.. a trusted individual that keeps his cards near and dear to his vest. I can only tell you that for about 175 years they have been known as “the quiet company”. Do not google the slogan for you may reveal the name of said company. It may upset you if you know someone who works for this company but has never reached out to you.

The word “quiet” gave it away…. I guess we must  appear to be rich….. or that’s their hook…..making people feel so special they will buy their product…..we didn’t take the bait, I saw right through it.

  2. Not only can you use the app on the ship, I feel it’s necessary to be able to see what’s going on, or to check on your account. But it also has a chat function that’s free. Sometimes you’ll get a notification when someone sends a message, but not all the time.

But last time we cruised I bought the internet, but DH didn’t and oddly we were able to use messages app on our iPhone between each other.

We like traditional dining, since we get the same wait team, who knows our likes and dislikes.  Our waiter knew that I did not like over salted food, too much spice, and definitely not anything fishy tasting.  I would ask him about various items...and he was very honest and helpful as to steer me away from those items.  This was most useful when he would announce the special of the night.

After 62 nights this last quarter on Serenade...he was a great influence for me.  🙂

Until someone (possibly John) mentioned that they had a special each night, we were totally unaware. I wish they did that on all ships, all the time….we would ask what the next nights special was so we could decide if we would just do the WJ.

  4. In the past we would sometimes say, “what’s good tonight on the menu” and then had the servers suggest what TO GET for dinner. They would say what they thought was good that night.  I can’t remember them telling us what not to eat.

I don’t even ask anymore what’s good that night if we even do decide to go to the MDR, because it’s the same menu over and over and over…..on every ship.

  5. We don’t stay in suites too much lately but we have been in CK on a more than a few different ships and we’ve had food as good as MDR, some much better than MDR, but we haven’t experienced any that we would say is better than specialty restaurants, especially Giovannis Table. Again this is my opinion only.

You should reconsider. This is a wonderful opportunity to educate your kids that one should always live within his/her means. So if this means an older ship at a more affordable price, so be it.  They will thank you later in life for this valuable lesson.

I wasn’t planning to add to this discussion AT ALL, but I agree that showing these children that it’s ok to live ABOVE their means is absolutely the wrong lesson. This will stick in their heads and can create problems for their entire life, and it appears by what the OP wrote, may have made that mistake too.

The best advice I ever learned very early on in life was to live within my means. By doing that we are now able to cruise and live without the burden of debt hanging over our heads.
    And we are not rich.

I would reconsider this cruise if I was the OP. Spending quality time with family can be made anywhere….memories can be made even at home.

My wife needs a small fan by her bed and  in the past we have brought an small extension cord as the fan lead does not reach a power pont . If we cant bring this now will the cabin steward provide one ?

We bring a small all plastic USB fan. I got it a long time ago on Amazon. It’s tiny but has 3 speeds and works great!

I have a USB cube and a USB cord that splits into  4 different ends for different devices.  The only things I plug directly into the outlet is my hair dryer and my laptop (when I need to).  Everything else (DH and I each have a Kindle, phone, watch) gets charged via USB while onboard.  And, most of the time only one device is charging at a time.  My USB cube only has two USB outlets, but you can buy them with more and they are allowed.

Thanks, I have them, but we also have a convertor that we can use in London that we’ll bring to use there. We’ve used that for the past few years on Royal and know it’s banned now but it has the UK plug on it and it’s a really good device. When we used it on Royal we always unplugged it during the day and only used it to charge at night….and never used it for anything other than to charge our Apple devices..

If the item is detained, you'll get it back at the end of the cruise.

Thanks that was what I was thinking too….next year we have a Celebrity cruise to Norway, then spending 9 days in a London, then jumping on Brilliance. We want to take our convertor….

EDIT to add….we’ll also bring the “now approved” chargers for use on the ships.

I sailed on the Celebrity Summit (introduced in 2001) last year that had been through a full-refit, including all cabins. It had an ample amount of power outlets, more than some new ships even! So it is definitely possible to do, just requires capital expenditures into freshening up older ships' cabins which RCI seems averse at doing. If their sister brand can do it, so can they.

They already did, they added an outlet and USB Plugs by the beds on Serenade for the world cruise.

Reporting back to the thread on this.  I just boarded with the euro to us adapter with the USB ports I posted about.  No problems with security, had it in my carry on not trying to hide or disguise it in any way.  I can’t guarantee consistency, but that’s my update.

Thanks because I just bought one of these.

For me it's a big no, the ONLY reason being if I ate that much at lunch I would go in a food coma and be tired the rest of the day.  I wish I could eat all the yummy food at lunch and agree it's a good plan, but man I would have no appetite for anything later.  Anyone else with the same problem?

We like Giovanni’s and when we eat there for lunch we skip dinner and just get a snack in the WJ later. We don’t feel the monotony and quality of the food in the MDR is worth it anyway. We’re finding we’re eating less and less there and more in WJ.
