Today we are in Skagway, a community of 400.

There will be 9,000 cruise ship passengers joining us.

And the locals are providing a shuttle bus to town for $5 round trip.

This may not be our best day of cruising on this trip…

Are you allowed to walk from the ship into town?

  2. NASA: Quebec Fires Deliver One of the Most Intense Outbreaks if Smoke in the Eastern U.S. in Decades

“Wildfire smoke from Canada has passed over the northeastern United States multiple times each summer in recent years, but it often goes unnoticed because it is relatively high in the atmosphere. That isn't the case in June 2023. In the first week of the month, large amounts of smoke from fires in Quebec poured south into the eastern U.S. and degraded the quality of surface-level air that tens of millions of people breathe.

Winds typically move smoke from fires in Quebec toward the east and out to sea. But in June 2023, a persistent coastal low centered near Prince Edward Island instead steered smoke south into the United States. This image, from the GOES-16 weather satellite shows smoke sweeping into New York and Pennsylvania on the morning of June 7, 2023.”

Several NASA satellites are collecting data throughout the event. The Terra, Aqua, and Aura satellites are observing how smoke particles affect how the atmosphere absorbs and reflects light, while the CALIPSO satellite collects observations of smoke height. Meanwhile, data from NASA’s ground-based Micro-Pulse Lidar Network and Aerosol Robotic Network indicate that a significant amount of smoke is present near the surface.

  3. Vela = “Sails” of the Ship.

Vela is a constellation in the southern sky, which contains the Vela Supercluster. Its name is Latin for the sails of a ship, and it was originally part of a larger constellation, the ship Argo Navis, which was later divided into three parts, the others being Carina and Puppis”   - Wikipedia

@Jim Avery  and @Heidi13 and any others who have knowledge on this topic.  I've never been seasick in my life, and have experienced the ocean when it was not calm.  However I've also never been on the Pacific Ocean, which I think can be much rougher than anything I've experienced.  I've heard that even people who have never been seasick might still get seasick at some point.  As we will be on the 23/24 world cruise, do you recommend that I come prepared with some of those seasickness patches or something?  Thanks for any recommendations!

BONINE CHEWABLE TABLET works best for me. No drowsiness like Dramamine. I get seasick very easily and I couldn’t cruise without it.

Similar experience we think.  We are docked in Honolulu at the moment and I ran a speedtest, 7:00AM local time.  Takes a good minute for the F and CC boards to load, and uploading pictures for the blog is interminable.  But hey, that's just a minor thing, considering everything else we're doing.  World Cruise!!

What app or website did you use for this speedtest?

We just got delivered an updated list of excursions for Kauai left at our door. Not sure what is going on

Maybe to Kauai on a different date.
    1) Are you arriving in Honolulu on the 14th or 15th?

    2) What are the updated excursions?

Would you please share the Kauai updated Excursions with us? Thank you.

Boarding in FLL, the pre cruise hotel was the Westin Beach Resort.  Knowing what I now know, I’d have booked someplace on our own.  I usually do for other cruises and have never in the past had an issue.  In FL, we would have been cooling our heels in the terminal rather than the lobby of our hotel when the USCG dragged their feet on the inspection.  I think it was after 3 before we wound up boarding.

How was the Westin Beach Resort location and room?
