We are due to stop there on Bellissima in 3 weeks so monitoring, the Amazara quest is en route to Colombo and due to dock 8th March with seaborne ovation shortly after so will monitor their progress!

Hi CF , I do think the passengers should be pushing for compensation for these missed ports. the Meraviglia passengers got a full refund for some missports in Caribbean this week over a corona virus scare, which was flu. However they did have lots of irate Americans on Board demanding action which nearly turned into a fight!

I mentioned this in another post but again
Now reported on the MSC Uk passengers Facebook page that all Italian passport holders will be denied boarding on all Caribbean cruises due to measures introduced by the Caribbean islands, they will be given full refund plus 20% Future cruise discount.
RCCL are banning Italians along with Chinese etc from all cruises.

I noticed on the now closed coronavirus thread a post stating that UAE & Oman are denying embarkation to passengers who have been to Singapore. We're currently on Splendida and have been to Singapore, twice, we're due to go to Oman and UAE next week. We've not received any information to say that we're not still going there.
It was on MSC website but specifically mentioned Bellissima and Lirica sailings I think.

Apparently other cruise ships such as Celebrity , Marella and Seabourn are still sailing to Sri Lanka.

Which made no sense at all. If the Italians were exposed, they would have exposed other passengers on the ship.Sense has gone out the window with this virus and hysteria is being whipped up by the media!

Jamaica would not allow Italians off a costa ship last week but let other nationalities off!
-
Does the Splendida have many Italians on board as some countries in Caribbean have been stopping them disembarking whist allowing other nationalities off!

This is one of many statements that appear almost daily on their website:
MSC Cruises has conducted and continues to conduct pre-boarding screening by thermal cameras to exclude persons who may be at risk, and passengers with signs or symptoms of illness such as fever (≥38 C°/100.4 F°) or feverishness, chills, cough or difficulty breathing will be denied embarkation. The same rules apply to their travel companions and will also result in a denial of boarding;
The list of places that apply to guests being denied boarding also grows each day. Started off with China and now covers HK, Macau, Iran, South Korea and pretty much all of northern europe. By the end of this week i expect this list to double given the number of infections occuring where an individual has come into contact with an infected person in their own country.
MSC website does not mention Northern Europe at all, only the specific towns in Northern Italy for denied boarding although some lines like celebrity mention enhanced checks for all coming from Italy.

I'd think twice about cruising on MSC until Italy is off the virus epidemic list. Those small islands have rudimentary medical facilities and just can't risk Italian officers, crew or passengers or people they came into contact with spreading the COVID 19. And there does not seem to be any agreement on how and how long the virus hangs around or is spread.
There are Italian passengers and crew on all lines albeit more on MSC and Costa so difficult mules they ban all Italian passengers like the Chinese

It's in letters sent out by MSC , we had one, some of contents below;
With reference to MSC Bellissima as from first departures on 29th February 2020 and in respect of the instructions received from UAE, Bahrain and Oman Authorities of Immigration and Health, kindly note the following travel restrictions for Coronavirus:
· UAE and Oman ports : it will be not allowed to embark in any UAE / Oman ports to guests from all nationalities who have travelled to, from or through mainland China, Singapore, South Korea , Japan and Iran in the past 30 days.
· Bahrain: all calls have been suspended for all cruise vessels from 25th February until 10th March 2020. The suspension is subject to further extension depending in the overall situation.

UAE are now Banning anyone who has come from Singapore or Japan from embarking in UAE and Bahrain has banned cruise ships completely.
seems harsh on Singapore when they have few active cases and Italy have 500 or so!!

We sail in two weeks out of Rome (civita) and we have 2 school age kids. Watching all the updates and trying my best to keep all of us healthy with vitamin c, elderberry, frequent hand washing and sanitizer.
We decided we will NOT cancel unless we are forced to by MSC or the airline. The only port i forsee may deny a ship is Malta. However the Worst case scenario for us is quarantine as we have jobs and school to get back to.
In regards to msc or gov officials quarantining a med cruise - i'm not sure what good that would even do anyone since the cruise embarks and disembarks new passengers at every port (except malta).
the good news is no big news or big changes today out of italy in regards to coronavirus.
You can also embark etc in Malta

All cruises are proceeding as normal at present and all airports in Italy open. However there are now some restrictions for anyone coming from infected areas similar to that for travelers from HK etc

Have a look at the website for latest advice. Basically no line would let you cancel because you are scared you may get an illness nor would any insurance pay out for that reason.

People from infected areas are denied access to ships. This is the least they can do to protect others. But who pays for the cruise tickets of those people denied access. Do they get refunded by the cruise line?
Yes they do, that's what's happened so far. getting like the Italian cruise line will be banning Italians!!

Thanks for update, how far is the city from port?
Take it the beach was not upto much?

Are cruises to Italy being cancelled for Feb/March? MSC doesn't show anything new on their website re: Italy
Loads on their website for next 3 months from Genoa, Livorno etc etc so nothing cancelled.

I think people need to get a grip and stop listening to media hype, yes it's concerning but most people only have very mild symptoms.
if I listened to all I hear about travel, I wouldn't leave home.

When you look at the number of people in a country, the number of infections is minute with most being very mild. Flu causes more deaths and illness.

In Vietnam now 🇻🇳 The sea is a little choppy, caused by the NE trade winds, blew a gale last night, but never cold. Sunny, clear and hot here at Phu My ☀️
Are there many on the ship using face masks when in ports and generally are the locals mostly wearing them?
-
But all very elderly as you would expect with any infection

The cheap prices now being seen will attract plenty of bargain hunters
