It's a busy place.
I like bust place better. :D

We went once. We were disappointed to find it really was a lagoon:
There was food, and hammocks and stuff.

People that post about what ports they dislike should include what they have done/did during their visit.
I think that if a ship sailed into Manhattan, and people rated NYC based on the pier area, they'd trash that too. The good thing is they've been revitalizing that area.

As a cruiser of 20+ voyages mainly in the Caribbean, my wife and I were discussing where we would prefer NOT to get off the ship. We pretty much settled on Tortola as somewhat blah with the assertive hawkers bothering us and not much to do.
Just curious what you did during your visit to draw this conclusion?
There's only one port in all my cruises where I did not get off. That was San Juan, as it was raining, had been there many times before, and we were only there from 3pm to 11 PM.
The cover was pulled over the pool, so we swam and relaxed.

We have also been the recipient of the excess attention of one waiter.
We had the same thing. We attributed this to a lack of activity. There were maybe 4 tables with patrons the night we went.
The good thing is we were done in 2 hours.

Perhaps you should familiarize yourself with the Steakhouse Guidelines:
From Carnival's website:
There is a nominal charge of $30 per person for dinner.
The $30 fee includes an appetizer, entrée, desert and the wait staffs' gratuity.
Optional additional gratuities may be extended in cash or to the guest's Sail & Sign Account.
Reservation fee does not include bar service such as wine, liquor, soda and bottled water.
Guests can request a table anytime between 6 PM and 9:30 PM.
Requesting your table at least two weeks prior to your sail date is recommended.
Requested dates and times will be honored on a first-come, first-served basis.
If requested time is full, the next available time slot will be assigned.
Please allow 2 ½ hours for your dining experience.
Dress code requires that men wear jackets on the 'Cruise Elegant' nights of the cruise.
All dining rooms are smoke-free.
Steakhouses are only available on Conquest-class, Spirit-class and Dream-class ships.

Must do? Not.
Glad we tried it? YES
Would we try it again? Probably not.

not since your inconvenient and totally unfair incarceration for criminal mischief? :D
At least I have an underwear drawer full of screws with the Carnival logo on them.

I thought elevator roulette was when you removed the two screws that controled the safety brake. Haven't played it in years.

What a GREAT picture! What cruising is all about!
-
Thank you both!

I know this review is from last year but I just wanted to thank you for it!
Also did your daughter like the cruise and did she participate in any if the youth activites?
You're welcome! When it pops up, I end up looking at the pictures again myself, just to reminisce. ;)
She loved the cruise. It was her 9th, so she's become quite the veteran. In fact, we've been in the city this past week and doesn't understand why we aren't getting on a ship! We went to the Top of the Rock yesterday, and both Bayonne and the NY piers are blocked from view. But we did see the NCL Dawn from a street view, and then a brilliant sunset.
And no, she didn't participate in the youth activities. 5 days goes by so fast, she never gets up to OA at all. :)

We should have a PLATINUM themed cruise!!!! :D
Can you imagine everyone trying to get on and off, the free laundry, the private galley tour, the concierge line at the pursers, as well as the dinner time requests?

Anything of value has been put in the safe, or is on my person, and I've yet to lose anything.

I think A.S. is right. I've been ponderiing and pondering and have come to the conclusion it was NOT on formal night. BUt there's been so much water under duh bridge.
Literally.

Yes, but the lobster is part of something called Fishermans Plate, and is kinda small, but they do come around with seconds.
-
LOL.
If I think hard enough, I MIGHT remember what I had for dinner last night. :D
But, no, I didn't save any menus, but I do know formal night was the second day (1st full day at sea), so you shouldn't plan for that night.
We've yet to eat at Potofino's. Looking at the menu while waiting for DW or DD to pee, nothing's ever struck my fancy. Add a <13 y/o DD, and decision is written for us.

Great review Mr. Pete :). I loved your pictures, especially of the sunset - I don't know where I was but I totally missed that one! Now I am depressed ;). It's something about this cruise, I have no idea what I was doing most of the time but I know I was always busy! For example, I can not for the life of me remember what I did on the first at-sea day. No clue. My first full day of being married and I can't even remember it ;).
Anyways, thanks for the blow-by-blow!
Until next time!
Thanks Emily! Loved looking at all yours as well!
Pete...what was your view of Formal Night??Do we pack the full length dress & Tux or should we skip it?
Angel....
Love your new pic in your siggie! Is that from the EOS??

We have not sailed on either Carnival or NCL, but NCL sounds like it would fit our personalities better. Can you tell me more about why you prefer Carnival over NCL?
Thanks.
Overall, it's a better experience for us.
However, my experience with NCL is almost 20 years old, and probably doesn't reflect the product they put out today.

Pete,
Despite express being a horrible and frustrating option, it will still be my best option if I have to get off the ship as soon as possible for an 11:30 flight right?
Quite possibly yes. But they do ask that anyone with a flight before 12:30 make themselves known as well. There are also a limited amount of express slots open.
I was in my car at 9, and home before 10.

Pete can you go into more detail as why you won't. Due to the fact we are idiots, we chose EXPRESS DEBARKATION.
NEVER AGAIN!
I invite you to read my other post, as it's just to painful to relive
Show me your aft!

Most only hold 2. We are a family of 3, so we had to put our 7 year old in the adjoining cabin. It was like having a 2 bedroom suite, with 2 bathrooms.
