  1. We often book mileage seats on flights that are less than desirable. Then DH calls the airline almost every day to see if something with a better connection is available. Except for one time, he was able to make the change and was rarely charged. United usually routes us on Lufthansa through Frankfurt.

Last time we were actually booked out of SFO to some city I can't remember and then on to FRA. About 2 days before we were going to leave, we somehow got changed to a nonstop LAX to FRA. What a lovely surprise!

  2. Well Ruth, I guess I am just not as brilliant as you and your reading comprehension is so much better than mine.

I read most of the thread and I understand that if you have certain other documents you can travel with an expired visa, and the Canadian visa is a separate issue.

But even if it is permitted to travel with an expired visa, why wouldn't one renew it?

  3. DH will take a tie but not a jacket.

I will take my usual sparkly sweater that I wear with long underwear underneath it (you cannot see the long underwear) because I am always freezing in the MDR. Finding dressy but warm clothing was always a nightmare! And no, a shawl or scarf does not help. :(

  4. On our last cruise we flew to Florida, did a transatlantic cruise, spent a month in Europe and flew home after. DH had slacks, a sports coat and a tie with him. We did the entire trip (7 weeks) with a carry on each so I don't get the overweight luggage argument?

However, it will be nice to not bring the jacket next cruise!

  5. I cannot imagine a 2 year old sitting at dinner for 1 1/2 to 2 hours for several days in a row. I know mine would never have remained in his seat for so long no matter what entertaining devices I had brought along.

I would go to the buffet. I would ask some friendly looking folks to save your selected table while you and your kids get some food. Then I would ask a worker or a friendly passenger to help you get your dinners to the table.

Room service is also a possibility but I imagine you would like to go out.

You might enjoy one or two special dinners in the MDR with just the 5 year old.
