We're retired and we love to travel. We do one or two cruises per year plus three or four months of land vacations. Currently we are spending two months in Europe which we combined with a ten day cruise.

Despite the fact that it looks like you were kinda screwed, go with the attitude that you will have a blast - and you most likely will.

Enough of your fave tea bags in a plastic Baggie take up almost no room and weigh hardly anything. If the ship offers something better, you can always bring them back home.

I think that some of these "thefts" are really not thefts - they are just a chain of unfortunate circumstances.
For example, you leave a pair of expensive sunglasses on a table. Some folks come by and want to use the table so they move them, unfortunately near the edge of something. Another group comes by and accidentally knock them to the floor without even noticing. Others come along and someone steps on the glasses. Oops. A crew member sweeps up the pieces and doesn't mention the incident to his supervisor.
You come back looking for your glasses and no one knows anything. You assume the glasses were stolen.
I would bet scenarios not involving theft account for maybe half the cases and sticky fingers the other half.

We do this all the time. We go up to a taxi driver, tell him where we want to go, ask for additional suggestions, settle on a price, and off we go!

We take cheap non prescription sunglasses for other reasons. So far on our four week partial cruise trip, DH has lost two pairs and broken one!

Statistics are notoriously unreliable. SW could have a bunch of short delays and the other airlines could have fewer but longer delays. Not saying that's the way it is but I could be.

We took the Aegean odyssey from Venice to Athens. We were only able to pick up 17 caches in 10 days. Croatia and Greece don't have as many caches as other places in Europe.

I once found a cellphone sitting on a table in the broiling sun. It almost burned my hand when I went to pick it up. I tried to turn it on to get the owner's name but no luck. I turned it in but I think I was fried. :(

No problem for us. If it isn't permanent press we don't buy it! I never iron at home (except when I sew) and I'm certainly not going to on vacay!

Most excursions at each port end a couple of hours before you have to return to the ship. That gives most folks ample time to poke around the various shops.

I would like to travel around the world on my own private large yacht. Course that won't happen but one can dream!!

We have International Traveler soft sided luggage that we carry on. The bags have 2 wheels and weigh about 1 kilo each which is handy when traveling Lufthansa or other airlines that weigh carry ons. We bought them at Marshall's and TJ Maxx for about $50 each.

When we flew from the US to Paris on Icelandic air several years ago, they allowed a stopover in Reykjavik for as many days as you chose for an additional $50. Don't know whether that was a promo or is a regular thing. We stopped over for 5 days, rented a car and had a blast.

Hit an ATM when you get off the ship if your ATM doesn't have a big exchange fee. The ship generally charges about 3% which is fine for small purchases.

Caching has taken us to some fantastic spots both on cruises and land vacations. So far we have cached in 69 countries and DH's goal is to hit 100!

I personally would be happy to pay $10 or $12 a day more for a cruise because I pay the added tips anyway. It's a funky way of doing business and it probably makes the cruise lines's profit appear to be less so they pay fewer taxes or something.

And skeptical me would like to know if the crew really gets all those automatically added daily tips that I pay each cruise??

It's not the under tipping passengers who are cheating the staff, it is the underpaying cruise lines.

On one flight I only got to use about 75% of my seat. My neighbor used the other 25%. If the seat cost $400, does that mean I get to pay $300 and she should pay $500? I don't think the airlines see it that way! If I pay for the whole seat I think I should be entitled to use all of it.

I am wondering what the requirements are to be hired. On our last HAL cruise we would go down to the photos on display and chuckle at the pics of heads cut off at the top and sides. It didn't seem to stop folks from buying them though!

My point was that his doctor's letter had no effect on the way he was treated so perhaps the OP doesn't need to bother with one.

I don't think a doctor's letter means much. Today, anyone with a computer and a printer can create an official looking letter from a doctor and the TSA agents know it.
We have a friend who had a hip replaced and he always sets off the metal detector. Despite a letter from his doc and even though he is 80+ years old he always gets patted down.

I agree that obesity is not a disease but it is a serious health issue. DH and I both struggle so we keep minimal amounts of unhealthy foods in our home. At least we have to take the time to go out if we want some junk food.
I don't think it is good for anyone to have unlimited amounts of junk food around even if they are underweight. I think if more families stocked up on healthy options and emptied out most of the junk, the obesity epidemic would slowly decrease.
And when I fly I want my whole seat. If some large person is taking up 25% of it, the airline can refund me 25% of my fare and charge it to my seat mate!
