  1. My granddaughter is a type 1 diabetic. She carries needles and insulin with her and she has never even been asked to take them out of her carryon. If your stepson makes an alarm go off because of his pump he can just show the agent what it is and I don't think it will be an issue.

  2. There is bus service from behind the wharf shopping center in lahaina to Whaler's Village in Kaanapali Beach. The bus leaves on the half hour and returns on the hour. It costs $2 per ride or you can buy a day pass for $5. The day pass is good if you plan to transfer and continue to Kapalua.

There is lots to do both in Lahaina and Kaanapali. Enjoy you carless day on the west side!

  3. Last time we flew from Hawaii to LAX they routed us via San Francisco. When we got to the airport we met about ten other people who were routed the same dumb way. So we all went over to the plane that was flying nonstop to LAX and met about a dozen people there that were going to San Francisco via LAX. Grrrrr. A nice man at the counter changed all of our tickets to non stops, thank goodness.

  4. You can buy a copy of the shirt that Tom Selleck wore in Magnum PI a bunch of years ago. Magnum PI was very popular in Europe and I have seen Europeans wearing that shirt a number of times.

Since the internet things have become very global. You used to be able to spot Americans by the clothes they wore but now that is rarely possible.

  5. I don't usually book cruises that far out. If I'm using airline miles I book air as soon as I book the cruise. If not, I use a website like kayak where i can track the airfare's ups and downs and I book when I think the fare has hit bottom. Of course I'm wrong most of the time. :(.

  6. I have seen dogs several times at the airport as well. I talked to a guy at a store who had his "support dog" with him and he told me there are online websites where you can buy the required documents. So it is really difficult to know if the dogs you saw were legitimate support animals.

  7. We each pack just a carry on for a 14 day cruise. We do have travel clothes that dry fast and don't wrinkle because we travel a lot and rarely check a bag - even for 2 months in Europe. You can bring liquids if they are less than 3.5 ounces each and are in a quart Baggie. Just do whatever makes you comfortable.

  8. We had a similar problem with a photo disk we bought a bunch of years ago in Mexico. Fortunately, we had a computer geek neighbor who changed a few things in the computer settings and voila, the pics came up. Maybe you have a neighbor or a teenage geek that can help you out? If not, you can take your laptop to Best Buy Geek Squad or somewhere similar and they could assist you for a few bucks. Good luck!

  9. We have cached on a bunch of the Caribbean islands. Before we leave we run a pocket query of each port and print a geocaching map of each port. We also note the terrain rating so we don't try for a 4 or 5 if we have limited time.

  10. If I were really concerned about what umbrella to buy, I would go to a site like amazon and read customer reviews. If I found one That sounded good, I would either buy it from amazon or see if I could find a store that carried it locally. We have had numerous folding umbrellas and I have not found a relationship between price and quality.

  11. DH and I both have goretex jackets with hoods that are lightweight and fold into a compact shape that we prefer to an umbrella. They are spendy - about $100 at a sporting goods store - but we have worn them many times over the years - you might want to consider that as an alternative.
