  1. I did not see a wolf but I did almost stepped on a Porcupine!!

I do not know about maximum weight. I would not think so, but there is definitely a minimum fitness level. You have to carry your own gear so if you can do a strenuous 9 mile hike with a 15 pound backpack you are good to go.

Oops! I was talking about the helicopter ride! My bad! Any further details about it? It sounds great and we're thinking about doing it!

  2. We will be sailing on the Infinity on July 31st. It will be our first time on Celebrity. Look forward to any updates you might have during your trip (eg. how many evening chic nights, and of course what the food is like on board). Enjoy your cruise!

If you don't mind, when you go on your trip, could you please take a picture of the Tuscan Grill menu? They are supposed to change it in July (I hope).

Have a great time too! We are going to Alaska on the Infinity in June 2017 and can't wait! Suggestions for tours would be great too!

    Thanks for your review!

  3. We have done the zodiak boat tour with Ketchikan Adventures both times we've been in town and it's such a blast! We booked through the ship (Princess) but you can contact KA directly to book on your own if you wish. You will typically go out in a zodiak with four people in total, but we have been lucky enough to have just the two of us which makes for a bit of a bumpier ride (more fun, IMO!) We've seen all kinds of sealife up close (whales, sea lions, etc) and just had a hoot zipping around on the zodiaks. KA outfits you with everything you need to stay warm and dry and even provides you with a free photo memento of your visit! Highly recommend.

They also have an ATV/Jeep land based tour that you can go on. We've never done that one so can't say much about it, but if you look up their website it will give you all of the details. Have fun, whatever you end up doing!

I looked up Ketchikan Adventures but couldn't find them on the net or on Trip Advisor. Could there be a different variation of the name?

Thank you all for your suggestions! [emoji41]

  4. I would highly recommend the float plane trip over Misty Fjords Monument in Ketchikan. I have done it twice, and most recently I went with Island Wings. While the flight is expensive, I think it is the trip of a lifetime. The beauty of the snow covered mountains and the lakes is spectacular. On the Island Wings flight we landed on a lake and got off the plane. Island Wings has only one plane that carries 6 passengers. So if you are interested, you must book very early. Whatever you do, you will love your cruise.

I read the reviews of Island Wings in Trip Advisor and it sounded like what DH and I were looking for. I'm really looking forward to it! Thanks for your suggestion. Trip Advisor has helped us make a lot of our decisions! In Icy Straight Point we are going on a whale watching tour with Glacier Wind Charters and in Juneau we are going on a whale watching tour with Harv and Marv. Many people on cruise critic suggested them and we looked up their reviews too.

    Thanks!

  5. We are going next June to Alaska and were looking for any other suggestions for tours in Ketchikan. We are already doing whale watching tours in Juneau and Icy straight point. We were thinking about doing airplane or helicopter but they seem a little expensive right now. Any suggestions would be welcome!

  6. I'd like to see any menus (Tuscan Grill) that you might have taken pictures of! Also, how was disembarkation? We are from the east coast too and are trying to figure out what time we should book our flight (how early in the morning). We need to fly back on the day we disembark.

    Thanks for all your info!

  7. Upon boarding the ship there will be people trying to get you to sign up for dining packages. If you know that you are going to be eating in the up charge restaurants, you can purchase a premier dining package which allows you to eat all your dinners in the up charge dining rooms, one lunch and a tea service. If you divide it out, it comes out to be $29/meal or so. I would recommend that and you can use your OBC

  8. I looked at the other posts and got this information:

We like booking our tours with private companies instead of the ship.... A smaller and more personal tour.

*Whale tour: Alaska Galore Tours - Icy Straight Point

    Harv and Marv - Juneau

*Seaplane tour - Island Wings - Ketchikan

    Southeast aviation-Ketchikan

I'm also going on the Infinity next June (2017) and was hoping since you all are going, can you please take a picture of the Tuscan Grill menu? Since the ship was refurbished, Celebrity changed the menu on her and then it will go to all the other ships. I was following a thread that stated depending on how people reacted to it, they might change it in June or July. So, I was hoping to see what their menu looks like at this time. Thanks!

  9. I'd like to make a suggestion if you are interested. If you wait until you board and sign up for the restaurants "premier dining package" (7 nights) it's cheaper per night. When we went on the Silhouette, we ate at Qzine, Tuscan Grill, The Lawn restaurant and Murano. We went twice to Qzine, four times to Tuscan, a lunch to the Lawn, and once to Murano. It was really great! It came out to $29 each meal.

  10. Does anyone have recent pictures of the Tuscan Grille or Blu menus on The Infinity?

We are going to sail in 6/4/2017! We are already planning on dining at Blu since this is the first time we've been in an Aqua class cabin but we loved the Tuscan when we were on the Silhouette.

Blu has a different menu each night, right?

Last year we found out that the company was experimenting with some menus so that's why I'm asking for pictures of the current menus.

Thank you in advance for any insight on recent experiences on board.

P.S. A picture of the menu for Bistro on five would be great too.

  11. Good questions and welcome aboard!

RE engine/Azipod vibration- Only when the ship is doing a docking maneuver is there vibration. If you look at my sail away videos there is no shake or shimmer to the picture and both cameras were on tripods attached to parts of the ship.

The soot that accumulated daily would have covered the lower half of a thimble if collected- insignificant and I only noticed it on one day.

The con to an aft cabin is the long walks to get anywhere.

There will be a sound like a gigantic washing machine on the balcony when the ship is doing 20+ knots. Close the door and it is gone. Very little wind on an S Class aft, none on Princess Grand Class as the aft is vertical.

Alaska- don't wait until you are there. I like to choose excursions while sitting at home with a glass of beer and a cat to pet. That beats standing at an excursion desk in line only to find it is sold out. Excursion desks usually only open for a couple of hours in the morning with 3 or 4 staff and a lot of customers some who don't know what they want or are lonely and just want to talk to someone. Book at home is best for me.

We used Island Wings and Harv n Marv by writing them directly. We did the same with Era Helicopters in Juneau. All other AK excursions were booked with Princess.

If you check my 2 Alaska reviews you will see the range of things available and they are just the tip of an ice berg-some involve a sea plane ride and landing at a lodge in a lake to eat fresh salmon. That doesn't sound too shabby.

E.g We landed on Taku Glacier in a helicopter

Saw whales from a boat holding just 7 people (2 Harv n Marv trips)

Got close to bears in the rainforest woods

Saw eagles from a fast riverboat

    Kayaked in the Yukon

Rode a train down a scenic mountain

Flew over Misty Fjords with Michelle.

These are all in photo and video in my reviews.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for all your information! Is there a easy way to find your Alaska reviews? I really appreciate all of your insight!

Since you were just there, what is The Porch? I'm familiar with the other restaurants like Qzine, Tuscan Grille, Lawn Club Grill and Murano but not the Porch.

  12. We have used the following whale watching companies multiple times and have been very happy with our experiences:

    Juneau --- Harv & Marv

Icy Strait --- F.I.S.H.E.S and Glacier Wind

In Icy Straight, which would you recommend? Glacier wind or F.I.S.H.E.S.?

  13. DH and I did this on the Silhouette and felt it was the only way to go for us. We made the reservations when we purchased it, upon boarding, but changed a couple of reservations due to time and the fact that we LOVED the Tuscan Grille. We had lunch at the Lawn Club Grill, dinner twice at Qzine, one dinner at Murano, several meals at Bistro on 5, and the rest at Tuscan Grille. It gave us the freedom to go to whichever restaurant (except Blu and the restaurant for the suites) whenever they were open. $29/pp per day. We loved it!

  14. Hello! I just stumbled on to your post and since I LOVED the Silhouette when DH and I went on her, I wanted to see what you thought about it since you often went on Princess. I'm glad you enjoyed your trip! I love your writing style and your jokes!!

I wanted to ask you a couple of things:

    1. On an aft cabin, do you feel motor vibration? Are there any cons to an aft cabin? Is there a lot of soot?

    2. In Alaska, what tours other than whale watching should we do? (Already plan on doing Harv & Marv in Juneau and Glcier wind charters for that). We were thinking of float plane or something like that. Did you book your Island Wings by contacting them or through Princess?

    3. In your opinion, do the tours get booked up prior to boarding when you go to Alaska? We were thinking of waiting until we boarded on the first day. Your thoughts?

  15. It is hard because there's only so much money to go around and were not rich, we have to save up for the deposit and make payments and with the way our dollar is now it cost us 900 CDN for 750 US

We have the same problem even though we live in FL. We save, put deposits down, pay every month or when we can, use a travel agent, whatever helps! If you look at YouTube for the size cabin you want or to compare the ships, it will help you decide.

  16. DH and I went on the Silhouette 2 years ago and we LOVED it!! We liked it better than the Summit which we went on last year. We like the Concierge class staterooms (they are really roomy) and the up charge restaurants on the Silhouette. We had the "ultimate dining package" and the meals averaged out to $25 per person. We had decided to try them since there are 4 of them, it was cheaper to get the "ultimate dining package" than to pay for it individually. The buffet was awesome and we went to breakfast to the buffet and to bistro on five. ALL of the food was delicious!!! Our cabin stewards were fantastic and attentive! (when do you rave about cabin stewards? Usually they are just great.) The ambiance of the ship was relaxed and everywhere you went you felt welcome, the people were friendly and the Solarium was peaceful and serene. DH and I looked on YouTube for videos and that is how we decided that we liked the Silhouette for that cruise. That was our first cruise on Celebrity so we were unsure about what to expect. We LOVED it and we also love the specials they give on board for booking a next cruise. Since it can be changed (date) with no fees, we book it on board and take advantage of the on board credit they offer. Other cruise lines have offered us discounts or on board credits but not as much as Celebrity. We were really surprised. I hope this has helped!

  17. I was hoping you could give my husband and I some advice... We are doing the Harv and Marv whale watching tours in Juneau but we were wondering if there were other tours that you would suggest. We have never been to Alaska before and we are planning to go in June of 2017. We have thought of helicopter tours or Seaplane tours. We would welcome any suggestions from people that have gone to Icy Straight Point, Juneau, and Ketchikan. Thanks!

  18.

The Taku Lodge Excursion out of Juneau is very nice. You can book this independently also. Just a two minute walk from the ship to connect with the tour. And we have done Taku Lodge and the whale watching on the same day.

What do you have to eat at the Yalu lodge? Tour description from Celebrity says only salmon.

  19. Actually, there is a new, NEW menu for Tuscan coming in July. We got to sample the new menu. Wonderful! Best meal we have had at sea. :)

Is the NEW menu for the Tuscan Grill on the Infinity? Does it bring back some of the previous dishes? For example: ravioli appetizer, onion soup, scallop and shrimp brochettes, lobster Alfredo, etc. We don't want just a steak house either. We can't wait to see!
