  1. Grey's island excursions is on Tripadvisor and DH and I are going on the "Grand tour of St. Kitts". The cost is $48/pp and it's an air conditioned van that you ride in. This tour includes $10 pp Fortress Entrance Fee and $3 pp Caribelle Batik Entrance Fee. You also get a 2 hour stay at the beach or they take you to the stores. There are other tours, if you're interested. We've read a lot about them on Tripadvisor and all seem to be very positive.

  2. They have 3 other tours that are much less and are really nice. http://www.antilleshelicopterservices.com/scenic%20tours.html

We are going on Nature's Kaleidoscope. $130/pp for 25 minutes in the air. If you contact them, they will also work with you on what you'd like to see. The least expensive is "Cloud 9" $90/pp for 20 minutes. Each tour takes you to see different places too. If you don't have 4 people in your party, they will find other people to share the tour.

  3. I have booked a helicopter tour that seems quite reasonable: Antilles Helicopter Services – BVI Ltd. They have different tours available for you to choose from at different price points. It will allow you to see the island from a different vantage point and since you are booking directly with them, it will be less expensive than on the ship. They are listed on Trip advisor also and have nothing but excellent reviews. http://www.antilleshelicopterservices.com/

    I hope you enjoy!

  4. I don't know if this is what you're looking for but... We are doing a whale watching tour with "Dive Dominica". They are listed on Trip advisor. We have wanted to go to Dominica for years because that is where the whales and dolphins are seen year round. There are several companies that do these tours and they are less expensive if you book on your own than on the ship. Look at the following websites for more information:

There are other activities on those websites too.

I've been told you can get great pictures of the whales and the island.

Some of the tours that I investigated were in a smaller boat with shade too. The one we are going on has shade and they supply water and rum punch. The length of the tour is 3.5 hours. They have great reviews on Trip advisor too.

We have wanted to get to Dominica to be able to do this for years because the whales and dolphins are there year round. There are several companies that do the tour as you'll be able to see if you go to http://www.dominica.dm/index.php/day-trips?sobi2Task=sobi2Details&catid=14&sobi2Id=36

    Have a great time!

  8. PortMaster,

Thank you for all your input! Regarding the restaurants after we take the ferry to Pointe Du Bout, do they take visa credit cards or should we bring Euros? I ask because you said it was a little village. Does the village have shops near the restaurants?

I can't wait to visit the island!

  9. PortMaster, thank you for all your information!

DH and I will be in F-de-F on a Tuesday. We are there from 8-5. I speak a LITTLE French from my college years (20 years ago!). We like to experience the food and we would like to see the island. We aren't drinkers, we aren't beach people and we were hoping you could make some suggestions. Staying in the area (the pictures you showed) looked interesting. Depending on what the gardens are (flowers, birds, etc.) we might be interested.

    Thanks!

  10. I feel that the Silhouette is a wonderful ship! The staff goes out of their way to be friendly, courteous and there whenever you need them. DH and I ate in all the premium restaurants every night thanks to the "special" they offer (instead of $45/pp its $25/pp or so). The only thing is you do so every night (at whichever restaurant you want-Lawnclub Grill, Murano's, Tuscan Grille, or Qzine). Anyway, we thoroughly enjoyed the food, the service and the ambiance! The food in the buffet was great and the Bistro on Five was amazing (only $7 more). I'm 46 and feel like the food and service in Carnival has been going downhill. RCCL is good for families and people who want to be on the move. Celebrity is more elegant, relaxing and serene. Now, it does have a children's area (different ages) and when we sailed there were kids from 5-18 on board. They seemed to be having a good time too.

We cruised in a Concierge 2 cabin and we loved our stewards! Their answer to everything was yes. [emoji2] Anything we needed, we didn't wait long! The cabin is great! No slamming doors to the veranda like in Carnival! The verandah is slightly bigger than other ships and it helps!

I think it would depend on your plans, how long it takes to get ready for dinner etc., whether it would be a good idea to have the kid in the room.

We booked another Celebrity cruise and are looking forward to it.

  11. I've been on many cruises but my first on X was on the Silhouette. My dh and I loved it!! The bistro on five, the other restaurants like Qsine and the buffet. I don't know if it was the ship, but we thought it was great. The staff was extraordinary!! I hope we feel the same way with the Summit! I've read other reviews and think it will be great.

  12. I looked on trip advisor and he is listed. There are other companies that also have tours: JC snorkel adventures, island style fishing (Jerry's), & Anchorage hotel whale watching.

I haven't tried to contact any of them because our cruise is in a year but you might be able to get more info there.

Also, when you go to Dominica's website, it lists all of the companies that are members of the Dominica Watersports Association. http://www.dominicawatersports.com/

Click above and select members to see who does whale watching. There is also a section on whale watching too!

  13. May I input a comment about food for the masses. Food is being prepared for so many different types of people who have allergies such as they can't have msg in their food or they can't have too much salt in their food. Because of these type allergies chefs now have to cut back on the type of seasoning and type ingredients they put in food during preparation. This is why the taste of food on cruise ships has changed over the past ten years. Cooking for 4,000 people of which maybe half have some sort of allergy or food quirk, the food has become more bland. That one person who complains that the food has too much salt or other ingredient leads to cruise lines making food less seasoned. Does this make sense?

Thanks for this input! I guess you're right. It does make sense. I just wish we wouldn't have to pay the up charge to get great food on top of the extra cost of going on Disney. I'm a Disney fan but wow!

  14. I do understand that and appreciate your input! It's just that 10 years ago, the food in the MDR was well seasoned and delicious. As the years have gone by, and one can see that a lot of people agree here on cruise critic, the food quality has changed in all the cruise lines. That's why I was asking and I was hoping it was better than our experience on the Magic: bland. DH is hesitant to go again if it's going to be the same. Thanks again for your input![emoji41]

  15. DH and I went on a cruise several years ago on the Magic and loved the ship, the characters, castaway key and the shows. I was let down by the food in the MDR. I've been hearing from friends that just got back from the Dream that the MDR food was great. We are used to good food on the cruises: I've been cruising since 1987 and DH since 1994. We have gone on several lines (see signature) and our current favorite is Celebrity.

Please advise your thoughts on the food. I do realize it could've been our "week" on that ship, the ship itself, etc. I do hope the food has gotten better! We love Disney and I would love to go back but it's so much more expensive than our other options!
