    • We are considering taking my two grandsons on an Alaskan cruise on the Solstice next year out of Seattle...they will be 12 and 16. The excursions sound great but I am concerned that their will other kids close in age and activities for them. It would be in June, so kids would be out from school.
    • I know RCL has rock walls, etc for kids, but the RC ship is over 20 years old, and we have been so happy on our three previous Solstice class cruises on Celebrity.
    • Any input would be most appreciated

    Hi Robin!

Just came off Solstice two weeks ago. Overall awesome time with few hiccups.

If..... the youngins will appreciate nature, take them. If there isn't an admiration for trees/streams/glaciers... do not [emoji846]

  1. Well said sir!

Eden is either planned for just a few guests (Suites, Zenith) or this will be the most crowded part of the ship.

Yep. This is not going to turn out like it is designed or appears to be.

  2. Ok,,,,did not have a visual when I made my comment.., sort of a wierd space..hope there are railings...what function is this supposed to serve????

It's probably supposed to serve the idea of Central Park like an Oasis Class/Solstice 2-deck library hybrid.

Problem is the strong potential for that pristine artist rendering quite literally to have been rendered as only a dream; because not enough people are going to treat it like a pristine area.

Rather, too many are going to trample right through it.

I'm concerned this area will draw far too much noise. Noise ordinarily is fine, but belongs in Quasar :), not a park or library.

  3. Just got off the Pacific after her first cruise coming out of dry dock. The ship looks great, new carpet (but still needs to be tacked along walls in cabins), newly painted interior, new wood floors & curtains in buffet area, new beds, couch & curtains in cabins (at least mini-suites & suites), new decorations, new Effy store, upgraded speaker system and some new pool & patio furniture. Looked like they upgraded the Spa and gym, also.

Several things didn't get done in dry dock. They were still working on the ship as we waited to board in Fort Lauderdale, worked on it again in New York, Iceland and Dundee.

There were some minor problems with the sliding glass doors in cabins (leaking cold air/whistling sounds/cold rooms) and club class dining furniture and items had not arriving for first cruise. They duck taped the doors (room warmed up but couldn't use balcony) and finally got them fixed 2 days before we disembarked. Missing club class dining items were being loaded on ship as we disembarked.

By the way, Club Class is wonderful, both room and dining room. The new mattresses are very comfortable and the new couch in mini-suite is also comfortable. Great experience, met some wonderful fellow cruisers (very enjoyable dinner group) and superb staff.

Overall, the entertainment was very good. Singers & dancers for production shows were good, fun to watch.

Oh by the way, Iceland is very cold and wet, more than we anticipated. Brrrr.....

Thank you for the feedback! Would love to see pictures of what you are describing please [emoji5]

  4. Regarding Club Class Dining:

They have implemented it - very small section of the dining room. I think only about 24 cabins. CD said they can come anytime during dining hours and they are making special dishes for that section only. They order off the main dining room menu, but have specialty dishes too. I believe a tableside pasta dish nightly and some other goodies too. You use the same entrance to the dining room as there is only one!

Interesting. So much for the rumors of Deck 10 speciality restaurant reconfiguration.

    Thanks for the update!

  5. A fellow RollCall member on a B2B with our cruise posted this:

Many of these updates noted in the article did not get completed. They are picking up a lot of the dining room upgrades in NYC. The cruise director came to our m&g and told us of all the problems encountered during dry dock. The new beds are fabulous! I will try to attach the new floor indicator on the elevator! So cool. He also told us they would be doing lots of tech upgrades in the next 36 days. 3af60750ac8871a9760c25a616aa0bb3.jpg

Thank you very much for the update!

  6. Is there an easy way to resize a photo on Android? I will be sailing on 6/27 in an Owner's suite but my phone takes minimum 3.7 MB pictures, too large to upload to cruisecritic. I know how to do it at home with photoshop but not while on the ship. Plus I have been told to not expect WiFi service when we sail above the Arctic Circle.

Are you not taking a laptop with you?

You might be able to just use your android phone, but I would ask you to consider the product you would be putting out.

Take your laptop with you if you own one- The small effort it may take I think would really regarded as worth it for quality material you would broadcast.

My next cruise is in four days- as I type this, I am organizing the gear that I usually take (real-time picture processing/blogging/A & B cam 4K video):

  7. Thank you Bob for the great pictures of the Pacific Princes! We are on her for the fire &a ice cruse, boarding on the 9th. And your photos are the best we have seen so far. :D

    Regards,

    Cyndi & Ed

Looking forward to your Fire & Ice pictures and your blog, especially ship pictures, that which will have changed, since you are the first to sail on her post the 11-day Nassau dry dock.

    Cheers,

    Bob

  8. We were on her last voyage before dry dock. They changed all the carpeting in the common areas while we were on board. They also completely packed up the general store type shop for a redo.

According to crew they will change all carpeting and beds in the cabins.

He also said they were scraping the hull and working on the ventilation systems in passenger and crew areas.

Good morning. Thanks for the update. you just did the transvaal then from LA? I followed that a bit with Bob & Holli's daily briefings. Looking fwd to traveling on her in the Adriatic this Nov.

Wondering what is planned in the short 11-day dry deck period wrt the Decl 10 restaurant, 'club class' dining venue. Either way, will be nice to see her get new bedding, and a general sprucing.

    Cheers,

    Bob

  9. Good evening from Palmdale Ca. I just wanted to let everyone know that I've got some pictures up on my flickr site. So far the Cruise Log, Princess Patters, Ship Pictures and San Pedro pre cruise pictures are up. Here is the link. The rest might take me a bit because of work commitments. My review might also take a little while also to complete.....:):):)

It worked well a few days ago.

  11. That's so sad.

Ocean Liners was the best dining experience we ever had onboard a ship.

Tried Qsine once onboard Silhouette in 2011 and have never been back.

    What are they thinking:(

Obviously, they were thinking modern. And they got it right.. it's just that the product isn't for everyone.

According to your signature you have also been on Millennium. I loved "Olympic"... it would be hard to re-create that dining room. A very nice experience.

Bob, we all thank you for your live reports... they are appreciated.

For everyone else, if you have enjoyed Bob's reports as much as I have, and you are not taking Pacific Princess yourself prior to November, be sure to follow the 11-23 November sailing thread- I always blog during a cruise, and will continue Bob's tradition on Pacific Princess in the Adriatic- 165 days hence [emoji846].

It will be interesting to see how she will have changed with "club class" dining, once aboard.

    Cheers,

    Another Bob & Holl(y)

  13. Here is a map of the entire port. If you look towards the top right of the yellow areas you'll see where the water taxi stand is. The length of your walk will depend on your ship's berth assignment.

When we arrived in Venice on the Westerdam earlier this month we were docked at #117 (on the left hand side of the map). Even with luggage, it was only about a five minute walk from the ship to the water taxi dock.

  14. Water taxi stops right at hotel. Plenty of room for baggage. Stops at the cruise terminal. Hotel staff helped take luggage out to pier which is right in front of hotel.

  15. Have stayed twice prior to Princess sailings at the Hilton Molino Stuckey. Great staff and wonderful hotel. Convenient to everything. Highly recommend.

Thank you. Can you be specific about how transportation worked, with luggage, to the Maritime cruise terminal?

  16. I sailed out of Venice last year and stayed at Hilton Stucky. I used my Hilton points. Great hotel; it is located on its own island within view of cruise port. There is a grocery store behind hotel; and the hotel provides free shuttles to St. Marks square. They do not provide free shuttle to cruise port but the bellman told my wife and I which vaporetto taxi to take;.. the water taxi's stop at hotel and take you to cruise port; about a five min ride. 3 euros. So, if you have any Hilton points perhaps you can stay there.

    Thank you!
