  1. On the Edge

    Friends,

May I have a reminder of what dates you’ve confirmed- if applicable- for Edge?

Celebrity has changed the ‘Inaugural’ to the left a week. While I booked the Inaugural ‘Inaugural’ [emoji57], of 16DEC2018 back in March when she debuted on sale- and thus feel it emotionally still counts- X’s decision removes some of the allure of that booking.

    So.. I’m going to either:

    1. Keep what I have

    2. Join one you are on for camaraderie’s sake

    3. Switch to something entirely different

    Thanks [emoji846]

    ~Bob

  2. We are leaving for the airport in about an hour. Off to Vietnam and Cambodia. We arrive in Hanoi tomorrow so essentially we will lose December 25. Besides Christmas, it is also my birthday. Does that mean I will not be another year older?

I am not sure of the strength of the internet access once we board the boat, AmaDara. I will try to post pictures on FB.

Wishing all you a very a joyous and merry Christmas and happy new year.

Of course... your 45th will be skipped [emoji11]

    Have a wonderful cruise!

  3. We have put a deposit down on the Eclipse from Valparaiso to SD from March 24th - Apr 8th, 2019. Is this what everyone is doing?

8 of us now so far (you two, Holly & I, Arlene & Barry, Fred & Barb) [emoji2].

  4. We also are planning on doing the SA cruise in 2019. We are waiting for our TA to call back so we can book this.

There are no perks since it is a repositioning cruise but we can deal with that later. There maybe a 25% off beverage package but that is all as of right now.

Everyone have a Happy Holiday and we will keep you informed of our travels.

Which leg? Mar ‘19 Chile to San Diego?

Would make 8 Silhouetters if so.

  5. I So since we will not be joining the Silhouetters Reunion, we will be booking the Jewel TA in Oct 2019, I will finally get to see Gibraltar and we have never been to Lisbon.

Sorry, Bob, I know your thoughts on Gibraltar but I see have to see for myself! After I walk amongst the monkeys, I can start to think again about walking amongst the penguins.

Moi? Nope. I think you may be referring to the opinion of another brother about Gibraltar- that holds a distaste for the crowding and some of the creatures inhabiting it. I’ve never been to Gibraltar, and very much want to go; for the WWII history as well as the disease-laden[emoji57] monkeys.

Thank you for the Iceland info [emoji846]. We are going in 2019, with the aforementioned other brother and at least two others.

  6. Bob,

Which cruise date on the Edge in December?

Think we might join you on the June 3, 2019 Reflection. Love Ireland and will probably extend the trip after the cruise. Only time we have been to Iceland is ferrying aircraft. Looks like a beautiful country.

  7. Good morning all! I mentioned to Fraser about some other cruise suggestions in place of the Edge Fall 2019 repositioning cruise, and Iceland is a place we would love to visit. He is not to sure about the South America cruise. And unfortunately my good luck /winning does

not appear to extend to lottery tickets [emoji256][emoji256] [emoji41] so will talk with our TA Monday about cruising on the Reflection June 2019. Like Barb, Fred, Holly and Bob we will also be in the Edge December 2018. [emoji924][emoji924] Have a great weekend everyone. Sue

Editing my typos and grammer, I blame it on decreased blood circulating after donating this morning [emoji41]

Sweet! Look fwd to you joining our band (2 so far..likely 4 by next week) of trivia team members [emoji846].

  8. My goodness what a busy group of travelers. Think we will pass on the Edge TA because of the pricing and timing. We are considering a TA on the Jewel of the Seas in May. Good itinerary and pricing. We've not sailed RCL. Anyone been on the Jewel?

Snowing to beat the band here in Atlanta today which means the city is at a standstill. Very rare this early. Prediction was for one inch with no accumulation. Have had at least 3 inches and it's supposed to snow thru the night.

We are headed to Australia/New Zealand on the Solstice next month. That's our Christmas, birthday, anniversary, and date night presents for a couple of years!

Happy Holidays to All of The Silhouetters!

    MJ

    Hi MJ! (and Sterling),

Never been on Jewel, -but- several of her sisters, starting with the flagship, Radiance of the Seas, and Brilliance. These are GTVs (Gas Turbine vessels), which means they are VERY green, and unlimited as to ports due to any eco restrictions.

This class of ships has a purposeful abundance of glass (they were made for Alaska and other scenic cruising), as well as self-leveling pool tables. Yep, you can play pool at sea...pretty cool.

    Enjoy!

    ~Bob

  9. I agree with all of your comments. We would do it for the reunion. We have done Iceland and Ireland twice so no interest there. But then again, you will not find one that will satisfy everyone.

If someone is looking for a "bargain" cruise, the Valpo to SD on the Eclipse is one. It is relatively inexpensive for the number of days.

We have the Edge on hold and will book it as long as the deposit is refundable and there is no change fee. I don't mind the $900 deposit since that is pretty standard unless a special is happening (such as the recent $25 deposit) or you are booking when on a cruise. The total price will be the same regardless of the deposit and my $900 will not earn much sitting in the bank .It also eases the shock at final pay.

My friends on the Oasis tried to book the Edge for me hoping to get some perks, but as Bob pointed out, there are no perks for a TA cruise - other than a $100 obc.

If there is no consensus on a fall 2019 reunion cruise, I am considering the Reflection from Southampton to Florida. It overnights in NY (Manhattan) and again in the Bahamas. I actually like the idea of two full days in Manhattan with my hotel docked nearby. It also includes a day in Boston. Others might want to look at this one also.

I’m happy for the change fee on the whole; will keep some from just holding cabins out of inventory past a 24-hr or so window (7 days for some agents, but still- not months).

Anyhow..... it’s done. This afternoon, I’ve cancelled our Edge TA and have booked Reflection for June 3, 2019.

Hope to see some of you onboard, if not before on another cruise :)

  10. Reunion Cruise (? TA EDGE Fall ‘19)

    Folks,

I do not have hope that this price will come down.

We very much want to do a reunion cruise, and I’m not ruling this one out, but am leaning against it now.

The only reason we would do this itinerary is to be with you, not the ship (we are going on her inaugural voyage).

Please consider the following alternatives (we most certainly are):

    1) June 3, 2019, Reflection, Iceland and Ireland (No Silhouetters currently booked, but it is the #1 destination for Holly).

    2) Mar 24, 2019, Eclipse, Chile-San Diego

(Barry & Arlene, Fred & Barb, Holly & I currently booked).

While we have looked forward to a Transatlantic on Edge with the group, for us the pricing could better be used for something like Iceland or South America- or both.

    Cheers,

    Bob & Holly

  11. I’d love to join you but we can’t go off that long in the fall. Could entertain a TA eastbound in spring of 20 - maybe the prices would be lowered. I know the advantage of westbound but can’t do those dates. We did book the Edge for May of 19 Amalfi Coast and Greek isles (done several of the ports but our friend hasn’t done any). Just a thought. Would love to see the Silhouetters again and really want to see the Edge(class).

Sorry u can’t make it. Looks like there are about 6-8 so far, but it’s so far off... who knows.

Looking fwd to Edge ourselves, mid Dec ‘18!

  12. Hi Bob!

I didn't mean perks on the TA itself, i meant for the Concierge room. :D Sorry for the confusion! On the other ships you get priority embarkation/debarkation, afternoon canape's, a welcome aboard luncheon, bottle of champagne in your room, etc. The website for Edge says Concierge will have new amenities and services, so i was curious what they would change or add? Apparently we would still get the welcome aboard luncheon, but it does not mention anything else. Hopefully it will be something i like/want!

Glad to see a few more people are considering the cruise!

    Heidi

    Ahhh, got it [emoji14]

  13. Are we the only Silhouetters booking?

No.... So far Heidi and Dave, and possibly Holly and I. We are leaning towards doing it, however, will talk to Jim and Kathleen, making a final decision when we see them next month.

  14. Hey! I know a TA with lots of perks. Tons of them. Depends on what you consider a "perk."

[emoji849] The construct of post 1355 was about a Transatlantic TA, not a live warm body TA.

If you’re talking about sharing a suite, I refuse to spoon [emoji28]

  15. I also put a cabin on hold - not Aqua though. We will go Concierge to save a few $ for now. They said they were going to have some new offerings for those cabins, so maybe some perks will help! We have been wanting to go on a TA, but this is more than we had expected. Such an interesting ship! We will probably do it?

Yes everyone - please let us know if you are up for it! It will make a difference if we book for sure or not.

    Thanks!

    Heidi & Dave

It will make a difference, if we get a few more folks, too!

About those perks.. you have researched other TAs? I say this with all respect- because I've never seen a TA with a perk. Typically, a repositioning of any sort does not have any. It would help, in the unlikely event it came to pass.

    Cheers,

    Bob

  16. It's available to book on the webpage!!

It is indeed. As Jim points out, more expensive than I'd expect one would have imagined.

AQ/14nts = appx $60-65/nt pp more. Given the price, rather than 100% commit, I have this on a 24-hr hold. Only Silhouetters' company and that of other cruise friends would make this worth it.

    Whom are still going?

  17. Good morning Silhouetters! I just called Celebrity to see if I could make a reservation on the Edge Transatlantic Cruise, but I was told it isn't open to the public yet. Here are the details I found out so far: The cruise will embark from Rome on 1 November 2019 and disembark in Ft. Lauderdale on 15 November 2019. The ports of call include Florence, Provence, Palma de Majorka and the Canary Islands. The itinerary looks good to us. Please let us know when you are able to book this cruise. Bob, were you going to try to book a block of cabins for us? Thanks for any help/information you can provide.

    Judy and Bill

Good morning. I was not going to publicly post anything until it was officially released- in case we had lurkers, but in response to this post I will now say that it is probably set for this Thursday (New England and Caribbean, including the 9-nighter for Edge- released today).

I think everyone should call individually, but only for one reason- I don’t have a roster from people on who is officially committed to going beyond Jim (we have been talking this morning) and Kathleen.

Having said that, between now and tomorrow evening, if somebody wants to email me and say that they’re definitely going and tell me what type of cabin they want- I will provide that service and hold a cabin for them.

Only 696 days to go [emoji13]

    Cheers,

    Bob
