  1. I also use an iPad. The Princess website's drop down menus work for some things like searching for a cruise, but don't work for other areas like Ship Experience. And it doesn't matter if I use Safari or Chrome. In this day and age, with people using smartphones and tablets, no company should have a website that isn't fully compatible for all operating systems. It just doesn't make good business sense. Especially, if the Internet is the method you prefer your customers use to research and book cruises.

  2. We've recently booked our round trip flight to Copenhagen using Princess. We wanted business class and EZ air got us better rates than we found on our own especially considering that it is a flexible fare that allows us to change without cost up to 45 days prior to departure.

  3. We recently booked our air through Princess. It's our first time using them. Could someone tell me why the flexible fares are less money than the restricted fares? With the flexible fares we can cancel or change up to 45 days prior to the cruise. It would seem they should be more.

  4. I'm booked on a 14 day Mediterranean cruise next summer. We booked this cruise a few months back and chose a mini suite. The fare was $4098 pp. I watch the fares regularly in the event they go down. A few days ago Princess raised the fare for this same cruise and cabin to $4198 pp. Today they are showing this cruise and cabin on sale for $4099 pp. This is quite the sale. Only $1 more pp than last week.

  5. Others haven't mentioned it, but it now shows up as a permanent credit in the Captains Circle account area - you don't have to keep applying for every cruise once you qualify.

I had this credit on my cruise two years ago, but it doesn't show up as an OBC on my current booking. Do I need to redo the form or just call my TA?

  6. I find that the easiest way to keep checking prices is to save the cruise as a bookmark on my desktop. Each cruise has a cruise number. Here is a link for a Med cruise I am tracking for 2015. Merely open this link, change the number at the end of the link following the = sign to your cruise and then save it as a favorite and place it on your desktop. Then just click on it whenever you want to see the price.

  7. This is what we have discovered

Formal night used to be the night to dress up

Today with the ships so large You see every thing from levies with holes to tux

If the ship is to have formal night they should enforce the rules and have restrictions of where you can go on the ship without a jacket and tie

We have bean to Mackinac Island in Michigan and at the Grand Hotel after 5:30 PM you had to have coat & tie to be in any Public Place even on the large Porch

A lot of people just aren't in to dressing up any more. From the work place to nice restaurants, it's just not happening. I don't let what others do bother me. My happiness and joy in cruising doesn't depend on what someone else chooses to wear or not wear. People still dress nicer on cruises for dinner than anywhere else I eat.

  8. Hmmm, a few hours after I was reading this post at lunch yesterday, my agent called and told me we had been upgraded from E721 (very carefully picked out by us) on the Grand on our Sept 2014 cruise to D703 - the exact same type of suite but with the uncovered balcony.

I immediately said no as we chose that cabin on purpose & for a reason. He said he would try, but could not guarantee as per the notice at the bottom:

'please notify us within 48 hours if you choose to decline this complimentary upgrade so that we can attempt to return you to your original cabin.'

Attempt to return? I never asked for this and after 12 cruises (3 with Princess) I had NO IDEA you had to mark a hand-picked cabin booked 8 months in advance as 'do not upgrade'. I always thought the nice way to play this game was the early bird got the worm. I guess not. I spent a few weeks researching our cabin for this cruise and now all that time has been wasted. I am really disappointed.

As I am the 3rd poster on this thread that this has been switched from the Emerald deck suites (covered balconies) to the Dolphin deck suites (uncovered balconies) it looks as though this has become a trend.

This happened on the day after our final payment by the way. A coincidence?

We always book the minis on the Emerald Deck of the grand class ships and always mark them as do not upgrade for this very reason. Princess has these as the lowest category minis and that makes them a prime cabin for upgrade. We think they are the best minis due to the covered balcony.

  9. In my earlier post comparing the pre purchase of six beers for the price of five with the on board purchase of five beers for the price of four, I assumed a beer price that is not correct for the on board beer. Thanks to another posters list of all alcohol prices, I am able to do a better comparison. All of the below figures are based on the price of four beers plus 15% tip then divided by five to compute for the free beer.

    Bass Ale

    Beck's

    Blue Moon

    Dos Equis $4.55

    Budweiser 16 oz

    Bud Light 16 oz $5.06

    Heineken $4.83

    Coors Light

    Miller Light

    MGD $3.91

This shows that if you are drinking Coors or Millers, you are better off buying the five for the price of four bucket on board even with the 15% tip.

  10. I'm trying to run the numbers on this to see what the best deal is. If I pay $23.95 for five beers then I must assume that a beer is $4.79 each. Is this also the price at the bar for a beer? If so then I compute the difference between the pre purchased beer and the on board buckets as follows:

    Pre Purchase

Six beers for $23.95 equals $3.99 each.

    On Board Bucket

Purchase four beers for $4.79 each equals $19.16 plus 15% makes the total $22.03. Divide this by five to account for the free beer equals $4.40 each.

I would save 41 cents per beer with the pre purchase. Not a big deal, but maybe worth considering.

  11. My DW and I have booked a 14 day Mediterranean cruise for 2015 on the Emerald. In 2015 the Emerald will be sailing six different seven day itineraries. These itineraries may be combined for eight unique 14 day cruises, four unique 21 day cruises or a 28 day cruise.

This raises some interesting questions. Will there be a captain's welcome dinner and farewell dinner on each seven day leg? Will the MDR menu be repeated each seven days? Will the entertainment be the same each seven days?

  12. The cruise lines must tap other markets. Cruising is still primarily an America phenomenon with 50% of cruisers hailing from the U.S. The U.K. is a distant second with 8% of cruisers hailing from there. That is why RCI will be basing its newest ship in China in an effort to tap the Chinese market. The intent of this documentary is to probably increase the number of cruisers from other countries and not, necessarily, to attract younger cruisers from the U.S.

  13. I'm not sure what the problem is... the email link works well. Send one to yourself and see. You can put in a detailed subject.

If that's how it's done then Princess should change the title of that line from subject to message. If it actually goes in the subject line of the email, then logistically, one could not include much of a message.
