  1. hope it works out.

(we've had the head of housekeeping help us a couple of times with special supplies for a special situation.)

i'm not at all sure about the attitudes above.

I can easily imagine situations where, for example, couples really want/need separate beds, when only a non-divideable double/queen/king is available, as but one example of personal preferences.

Not sure whose business that is other than the guests and housekeeping staff...

Ditto who gets a private bedroom/bathroom or not.

    Enjoy your trip!

    :) <3 :)

  2. Surely NCL would have extra mattresses on board, in fact, nice and new ones.

You'd want to tip your Steward a lot extra, but why couldn't you - probably once on board - ask your Butler/Steward/Concierge to help get an extra twin mattress.

Then stash it in the main BR, between a wall and the bed during the day.

Obviously, a LOT more work for the steward, to unmake/make/move/move back each day, but... perhaps offer a nice tip upfront as a thank you for the extra help, and then more at the end.

(When we have extra requests, we try to handle it this way. We don't want anyone wondering if this is "one of those times" they won't get any show of gratitude/graciousness for going above and beyond.)

The head of Housekeeping would be someone else to ask. That person would probably have the final say, plus the so-called "keys to the extra mattresses" :)

Just be prepared in case the answer is a "no". That's always safer, of course.

EDIT: Or, Duh! - do this with that bunk mattress!

Thanks for taking the time to give a nice reply...much appreciated. If we can't get a rollaway, will most likely take the mattress from the fold down bed. :) Not to worry....I'm a good tipper.

  3. Wow, what a bunch on non-sense on this thread so far.

OP - what ship? We had a roll away on the Star 2011 in the DOS. We sail with me, DW, DS, DD in suites. Heard a few years later NCL doesn't have roll aways anymore. Well, that is not entirely true. I'd have to think but for sure March 2016 we were on POA and upon meeting butler and him seeing that the kids would have to share a large pullout couch he asked if we wanted a rollaway we said yes.

The rollaways we've had always have been the same (with wheels) and I've laid on them and they are comfortable.

So OP, good luck, they do exist but not sure about your ship.

Thanks for answering politely....much appreciated. We will be on the Jewel. If we can't get a rollaway I think the suggestion to take the mattress from the pulldown will work for us. Thank you to whoever suggested. :)

  4. Yes, an extra bed. Daughter and her husband will have master bedroom. I (70) was thinking of taking the second bedroom. Grandson and his girlfriend in the main room....one on the sofa and hoping to get a rollaway for his girlfriend. I know the room sleeps six.

  5. My daughter and I co-hosted a M/M one time....we made up name tags. (received chocolate covered strawberries for doing that...nice surprise.) The main host did a very nice job with a gift exchange....$20 gift that represented our town/state. It was a very nice turnout and we really enjoyed ourselves. Met some nice people. One M/M it was just a get together....sorry but it was kind of boring. The people that attended were very nice. But I like M/M that we get to do something.

  6. Nice! I would love that. ;)

Have breakfast delivered....have at least one dinner delivered to your cabin by the butler. Give the butler a list of snacks that you would like in the afternoon....so he has some idea what you like. The butlers in the Haven are amazing!

  7. Thank you...great post! We will be in the Haven on the Jewel this coming September. :)

I'm going to love/enjoy every little perk.

First of all you will love the suite on an NCL ship. For us it was amazing. We are going back downstairs for our next cruise on RCI and I have to admit its not going to be easy :)

The worst part is after they pamper you all week they will throw you out on the last day and you will have to find your own bags and drag them to the car and open the car door yourself and then actually have to drive. If your lucky you'll get a taxi to the airport but you will still be suffering from malnutrition by the time you get home.

We are 6. We have 4 kids. Our first Suite experience was in the Haven on the Jewel. And to be honest we had no idea how a butler would be of use to us. We are very self sufficient. We like to do things on our own and having someone wait on us kind of makes us uneasy.

The Concierge was a little bit more intriguing to us. Not sure how he/she would be of use to us but thought it would be nice to have someone to at least manage restaurant reservations if we needed to change them.

Our Butler was fantastic. He read us like a book. He was out of the way the whole time but whenever we needed something there he was with it. there was a bowl of M&Ms or Gummy bears on our table the whole week. There were always snacks. The kids were going to watch a movie one night and he shows up unasked with candy and bowls of popcorn. I think he appreciated the fact that we didn't use him much and let him do the job he was good at. The kids loved him and he seemed to be part of the family by the time we left.

The Concierge on the other hand was pretty useless to us. Actually we would have been better off without him. We showed up early to board (around 10am) and were shown to the Suite waiting area and met the concierge there. It took over 2 hours before we got escorted on to the ship. I'd have rather walked on myself at that point. And then the cards didn't work to scan us onto the ship and they had to take pictures of us at the guest services again when we got on. By the time we got escorted up to Modernos lunch was pretty much over.

After lunch we went to go into the Haven and the keys didn't work on that door. Nor did they work on our Suite door. In addition to all this our Concierge was hard to find and when we did see him he seemed overly nervous and running from one place to another. We did try to make some changes to reservations but he ended up making a 2nd reservation without canceling the first one. Speaking with other suite guests we all got the feeling he was new at this job and didn't really have it down yet.

In the end (In addition to the $651 of prepaid grats) we tipped our butler $150 for the week, We tipped our room steward another 100$ and tipped the Concierge 50$. This ended up being about 18% of our total cruise fare. Not sure what the correct amount is to tip but both our room steward and butler came and found us on the last day to thank us, hugs from the kids all around.

Everyone is bugging me about when our next Haven trip will be....

  8. There are five of us in our party...two bedroom suite. First two have the SDP...total of six (6) meals.

Is it possible/permissable to use five of the meals one night, for everyone in our party (5), say at Teppanyaki?

Thanks for any and all help.

  9. Thinking of upgrading to a 2 bedroom suite. Myself, Daughter and her hubby, grandson and his girlfriend.

Question...the sofa in the living room, how large is it? Will it fit two adults? For the grandson and girlfriend or am I the Grammy going to have to sleep on the sofa bed? :)

  10. Thanks, Nancy!

Sorry, the party thing was pretty spur of the moment -we were all out on our balconies and some were lamenting that they didnt want to go to a bar to anyway! get a drink. Its not like the 2 of us could drink 3L of alcohol in 5 days

We usually cruise during spring break - so if you love crowds and swarms of children, come join us! :D

Ohhh I know how that was...lol. We'd get to the room then think "we should have stopped at a bar for a drink first" lol
